German carrier gets ahead of itself, advertises the next-gen iPhone for September

Earlier today and according to reports, it seems that Verizon has imposed a vacation blackout from the 21st of September to the 30th of September. Not surprisingly the 21st of September is when Apple’s next-gen iPhone will be released, while its announcement and unveiling will occur on the 12th. Perhaps buying into the rumor mill and speculation, or perhaps knowing something we don’t, German carrier Mobilcom Debitel seems to agree that September is the month we can expect the iPhone and have begun advertising the handset with its advertisement reading, “In September, it’s finally time for a new generation of smartphone to go on sale.” In any case the carrier can’t be blamed for getting ahead of itself – after all the iPhone is a pretty hot piece of gadget that many people would love to get their hands on, a fact that we’re sure even the most staunch of Android supporters will probably have to agree on. We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled but it’s starting to seem like September is the date you’ll want to keep a watch out for.

iPhone 5 gets September 21 launch date?

Apple logoI guess there are more than enough rumors going around right now that point towards a September release date for the next generation iPhone, never mind that you want to call it the iPhone 5 or the new iPhone. According to Techcrunch, a trusted Verizon employee mentioned that Verizon will impose an all-staff vacation blackout for the following dates – September 21 to September 30, and when it comes to blackout dates, those tend to mean that a major hardware launch is in store, just like how AT&T practiced last year.

Techcrunch believes so, and is looking forward to picking up the new iPhone/iPhone 5 on Friday, September 21st, although there are even more out there who expect the announcement of the new iPhone to happen this coming September 12th. I know that it is a cardinal sin to use history as an indicator of future performance when it comes to product launches (more so for financial plans), but Apple announced the iPhone 4S on October 4th last year, before the handset went up for pre-order on October 7th, before being made available in stores a week after that. When you extrapolate that to the iPhone 5′s timeline this September, everything else seems to fall into place. What do you think?

Verizon restricts September vacations ahead of new iPhone launch

We still don’t know for sure that the new iPhone will be launching on September 21, but today we received more convincing evidence for such a release date. An unnamed Verizon employee has told TechCrunch that Verizon has blocked all employees from taking vacations between September 21 and September 30. This move was apparently made in anticipation of the new iPhone’s launch.

It’s widely speculated that the new iPhone (or the iPhone 5, whichever you prefer) will be revealed at an Apple event on September 12, go up for pre-order on the same day, and then launch a little more than a week later on September 21. That expected schedule is similar to the reveal/launch schedules of iPhones past, and this move by Verizon seems to confirm that the new iPhone will indeed be launching on September 21.

That’s because carriers likely know all about the new iPhone already – when it will be revealed, when pre-orders will open, and when it will launch. It’s hardly surprising to see Verizon restricting vacation time around the new iPhone’s launch, as past iPhone launches have produced massive lines and, of course, a ton of money in sales. If September 21 is the launch date of the new iPhone, Verizon will need all hands on deck to handle the sheer volume of customers coming in to buy one.

So, while we’re still a little hesitant to call it confirmed, this is some pretty convincing evidence that we’ll have our hands on the next iPhone by the end of September. This rumored Apple reveal event is only a few weeks away, so if it’s actually going to happen, we’re expecting Apple to make an announcement soon. Stay tuned, folks.

Verizon Vacation Blackout Reveals The New iPhone Will Launch On Friday, September 21

iphonelaunchbonanza

A trusted Verizon employee has just confirmed to TechCrunch that the carrier is having an all-staff vacation blackout from the dates of Friday, September 21 to September 30. You know what that means, right?

The next iPhone, whether it’s called the iPhone 5 or simply the new iPhone, will almost certainly be available in stores (with lines wrapping around the back of them) starting Friday, September 21.

It’s largely expected that the next-gen iPhone will be announced on September 12, in usual Apple fashion. (Though the spectacle may be a bit different this time around considering that Apple’s lead presentation executive was fired in December.)

If we travel back a bit and examine the historical timeline from Apple’s announcement, to pre-order, to launch, the dates all seem to match up.

Last year Apple announced the iPhone 4S on a Tuesday, October 4th. The phone went up for pre-order on that Friday, October 7, and was available in stores on Friday, October 14, a week later.

The iPhone 5/2012 timeline looks almost identical:

  • Expected announcement: Wednesday, September 12
  • Expected pre-order date: Wednesday, September 12
  • Launch date, as confirmed by our trusted source: Friday, September 21

And so began ticking the internal iCountdown clocks of a million fanboys.

Former Presentation Exec Files Lawsuit Against Apple, Claims Jobs Promised Him Employment For Life

steve_jobs_iphone

Wayne Goodrich — a former Apple employee who is responsible for awe-inspiring presentations like the introduction of the iPhone, iPad, and Siri — has sued the company for breach of contract and unfair business practices, after being let go from the company in December.

Yes, December, which means that he likely had no part in the forthcoming iPhone 5 debut presentation, expected on September 12.

Goodrich claims, in a federal complaint filed with a San Jose court, that the late Steve Jobs assured him job security, even if his position was eliminated. BusinessWeek reports that Goodrich was a “confidant, sounding board and close adviser” to Steve Jobs.

Mr. Goodrich was fired for no legitimate reason, according to the complaint. Apple reportedly said it was for “business reasons,” and unrelated to the quality of work Goodrich was producing.

Goodrich worked for Apple since 1998, and was awarded restricted stock in 2008 (then worth just $97.40/share). As you may have heard, that stock has been on a bit of a growth spurt ever since hitting $657/share as of right now.

Goodrich is then seeking compensation for the loss of restricted stock, wages, benefits and emotional distress, as he and his lawyer believe that Apple terminated his job to avoid paying out the restricted stock.

Goodrich claims that one of his greatest accomplishments was the Siri presentation at Apple’s October 2011 keynote, introducing the iPhone 4S.

It’s worth wondering what the iPhone 5 presentation will look like knowing that Goodrich likely had nothing to do with it. He’s been a huge part of Apple’s brand perception through the company’s most amazing and memorable moments. Other companies have tried, and failed, to emulate Apple’s (and more notably, Steve Jobs’) swagger on stage.

Time shall tell if Apple can maintain the same presence without Goodrich, and September 12 is just around the corner.

This iPhone 5 keynote parody is absolutely hilarious

As Instagram would have us believe, it seems that a lot of people enjoy taking photos of their food with their smartphones, and given how good our smartphone cameras are these days, it’s hardly surprising. However this fact was picked up on by Adam Sacks who decided to parody it by creating a fake iPhone 5 keynote video and described the device as being “the best phone to take pictures of your food.” If you’ve watch any of Apple’s keynotes in the past, you know that they like taking you through the design process where various people who worked on the device talk about the different aspects of it. Adam Sacks has mimicked all of that and to prevent further spoilage of the video, check it out in the video above and let us know what you think in the comments below!

Leaked iPhone 5 parts claimed to fit perfectly when assembled

Earlier this morning, we took a closer look at the iPhone 5′s display – images rumored to be the real deal, of course, but it seems that some more alleged next generation iPhone components were also spotted later in the day. Well, now that the sun is down and many of us are about to retire for the day, what else is there to read about the iPhone 5? A bunch of alleged iPhone 5 leaked parts were touted to be assembled by an online electronics repair company, and they claim that these bits and pieces will fit “perfectly.”

According to iResQ (whom we saw their images earlier today), the smaller docking port and headphone jack assembly attached to the frame without a hitch, touting, “The docking port and headphone jack assembly seemed to fit perfectly inside of the frame. One of our technicians was even able to screw the assembly into the pre-aligned screw holes inside of the frame. All of the threading and screw holes lined up perfectly with the screw holes in then docking port/headphone jack assembly.” (more…)
