[CES 2013] If you love LEGO and you love your iPhone, what better way to combine them but a LEGO iPhone case, right? Having released cases for older iPhone models, Smallworks now has the BrickCase designed for the iPhone 5 and thanks to the nubs attached to the top and back of the case, you will be able to attach LEGO parts to the case, thus truly designing a unique iPhone case for yourself. Of course you could always leave it blank which kind of makes your iPhone look like one giant LEGO piece, but based on the photos we saw of Smallworks’ customers customizing their iPhone case, the possibilities are truly endless. We’re actually not too sure if these cases will be able to protect your iPhone from drops and knocks, but if you’re in the market for something truly unique, the BrickCase is available via Smallworks’ website for $25.

Pioneer Electronics unveiled three new in-dash navigation systems at CES 2013. The new navigation systems include the AVIC-Z150BH, AVIC-X950BH and AVIC-X850BT. All three of the systems promise advanced route guidance, multimedia entertainment, and smartphone connectivity functions.
The three navigation systems specifically feature iPhone 5 compatibility and high resolution touch screen displays ranging from 6.1 to 7-inches in size. Other features of the navigation systems include a new mapping interface with integrated real-time traffic information available. The navigation receivers also have a new graphical user interface, AppRadio Mode, integrated Bluetooth, and are SiriusXM ready.
The receivers also support HD Radio and DVD/CD/MP3 playback along with USB connectivity. The iPhone 5 connectivity for the navigation products does require the optional Pioneer CD-IH202 kit that sells for $50 and two Apple accessories including the Lightning to USB cable and the Lightning digital AV Adapter is required for the AVIC-Z150BH and AVIC-X950BH.
The AVIC-X850BT requires the optional CD-IV202NAVI kit that retails for $100, the Lightning to USB cable, and the Lightning to VGA adapter. With these accessories, the user will be able to select control iPhone 5 apps via the in-dash touchscreen display. Drivers will also be able to play and control music and video stored on the iPhone 5 on the larger Pioneer tuner screen. The AVIC-X850BT, AVIC-X950BH and AVIC-Z150BH will be available in late March with suggested retail prices of $800, $950 and $1200, respectively.

Lifeproof’s iPhone 5 case has been on the market for around a month now, so by now, a number of people are keeping their shiny new iDevice safe behind the company’s handy little barrier. Here at ShowStoppers 2013, however, the company is revealing a number of new accessories for its iPhone 5 case, with the offerings ranging from strange to practical. For instance, how do you feel about making your iPhone 5 a little more buoyant?
With the Life Jacket accessory, your iPhone 5 will actually float. That has to be a handy little feature for those who take their device out on the water, though we do feel like we should point out that such an accessory sort of undercuts the waterproofing Lifeproof’s case brings to the table. In any case, with the big orange Life Jacket wrapped around your phone, you don’t have to worry about it sinking to the bottom of the lake or sea should your device go overboard.
Other accessories announced today include more standard fare, like an arm band, bike/bar mount, car mount, and belt clip. These are all relatively self-explanatory, with the arm band giving you a way to run or jog with your encased iPhone 5. The bike mount naturally allows you attach your iPhone 5 to your bike, though Lifeproof’s representatives also suggested that new mothers could use it to attach their phones to a baby’s stroller. Finally, the car mount is about what you’d expect – a suction cup that you can attach to your windshield or dashboard.
It wasn’t all about iPhone 5 owners though, as Lifeproof also took time at the show to announce a new case for the Galaxy S III. Like the company’s case for the iPhone 5, the Galaxy S III case will be waterproof up to depths of 6.6 feet, dirt proof, and shock proof from heights of up to 6.6 feet. Expect to hear more about these accessories and the incoming Galaxy S III case soon. Check out our CES portal for much more from this years trade show!

Enter the olloclip: an iPhone lens system that connects to your device with a set of three different shooting modes: fish eye, macro, and wide angle – and the case we’re looking at today is hitting the market very soon. This system has been out on the market for some time in its original iPhone 4/4S form and is now bringing on the heat for the iPhone 5′s body and size. We got our opportunity to have a hands-on look at this bit of hardware at ShowStoppers 2013 during CES this week in fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada.
This system comes in a box that contains a microfiber bag with the olloclip logo on it so you can carry it all in your pocket safely, two lens caps (one for each side), and the actual olloclip unit. The unit connects to the corner of your iPhone 5 either on its own or combined with a special protective case (that of course protects your iPhone 5 as most people love to do.) The unit carries with it all three different lenses at once, one of the two red units being able to flip to reveal the second angle, the other containing the third.
This system is a bit of hardware and works with the lens on your iPhone in a way that you don’t have to concern yourself with which app you’re using to match up with it. Instead, you’re modifying the eye through which your iPhone sees, this allowing you to take photos as you normally would, here with extraordinary results. The entire system can be left on your iPhone in your pocket or, if you prefer, can be attached at will and carried separately in your handy olloclip pouch.
This solution for your iPhone 5 is out in stores right this minute, ready for action for a cool $69.99 USD right this minute. You’ll be able to pick one up in red and black, black and black, or white and black. Have a peek at the rest of our ShowStoppers 2013 action as well as our CES portal for more action than your eyes and ears can handle – all week long!

Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 vs iPhone 5
Posted in: Today's ChiliWhile Apple keeps up the mobile hero action with their iPhone 5 all around the world, Lenovo brings forth a massive beast of a device known as the IdeaPhone K900. These two devices are just about as different as two phones can get, the iPhone working with a 4-inch display, the IdeaPhone K900 bringing on a beastly 5.5-inch display, but the similarities are there: both companies want the world to understand that they want to push forth a hero made not only to destroy the competition with specifications, but as a solid project that’s more than the sum of its parts.
You can get the full details of the Lenovo IdeaPhone K900 in our original hands-on from just a bit earlier tonight, but the key bits appear to be this: a solid thought-out bit of hardware surrounding Lenovo’s unique brand of Android and an Intel Atom Z2580 (Clover Trail) processor. The iPhone 5, compared in those aspects, is of course also a solid thought-out bit of hardware surrounding Apple’s own entire mobile OS (iOS) and an Apple A6 chip.
At the moment there’s really not a whole lot we can compare between the two because of the prototype stage of the Lenovo device, but the approach appears to be very similar. Of course Lenovo’s device runs Google’s mobile OS instead of their own in-house software, but they seem to want to move forward with a single device as a hero. We’ll see this year if they stick to their guns.
Have a peek at the couple of real simple photos we’ve got of the two of these devices side-by-side and let us know if you feel like the two are going to be hitting the same person’s pocket any time soon. Be sure to see our CES portal as well as the ShowStoppers 2013 tag to see more action throughout the night and forward through the rest of the week, and keep an eye tuned for more sweetness from all angles!
