iPhone 6 To Feature Fingerprint Sensor, Feature To Skip The iPhone 5S [Rumor]

iPhone 6 To Feature Fingerprint Sensor, Feature To Skip The iPhone 5S [Rumor]Fingerprint security sounds like a pretty solid way of securing your devices, although after watching countless movies, thieves may not only steal our phone, but could end up chopping off one of our digits as well. Pretty scary stuff, right? However if you do not believe that will happen, or at least be a rare occurrence, then how do you feel about an iPhone with a fingerprint sensor that could act as a security measure? We’ve all heard the rumors that future iPhones could come with said technology, especially after Apple’s acquisition of security firm AuthenTec last year.

Many speculated that this feature would make its way into the iPhone 5S which could be seeing a release later this year, but Piper Jaffray analyst, Gene Munster, believes otherwise and claims that the fingerprint sensor will instead arrive on Apple’s iPhone 6, a rumored 4.8” device that according to Munster, will be revealed in Q1 2014. A rather odd date since Apple has of late revealed their phones towards the later part of the year, but then again with Apple releasing the iPad 4 less than a year after the iPad 3, we don’t see why not.

We’re not sure what the fingerprint sensor could do, or if it is even needed, but we guess it could give Apple an advantage in the enterprise and government sector if they could offer not just more secure software, but hardware as well. In the meantime we will be taking this with a grain of salt and suggest you do the same.

iPhone 6 Concept Features 4.8-Inch Screen, Lack Of Home Button

iPhone 6 Concept Features 4.8 Inch Screen, Lack Of Home Button

Just last week, we heard a rumor of the iPhone 6 featuring a polycarbonate body and a 4.5-inch screen. Even though the iPhone 6 is most likely a year away from officially being debuted as many people are expecting the iPhone 5S to be released this year, a set of concept images for the iPhone 6 have been released today, and they look mighty impressive.

The concept images created by Martin Hajek feature an iPhone 6 with a 4.8-inch screen, no home button and a look that resembles the iPad Mini. The iPhone 6 in Hajek’s concept isn’t as large as the Galaxy Note 2, but could certainly compete with the rumors 4.99-inch Galaxy S4 and the 4.8-inch display of the HTC One.

Removing the home button on the iPhone 6 may be a bit of a stretch considering how much iOS relies on it. If Apple considers making any changes to its home button, we think they’d introduce a slimmer button rather than nixing it from the iPhone altogether. Seeing how Apple updated its 30-pin dock connector with the slimmer Lightning connector, we think the company knows slim is in.

iPhone 6 Rumor To Feature Polycarbonate Body

iPhone 6 Rumor To Feature Polycarbonate BodyApple’s next generation iPhone has certainly seen lots of speculation, and most folks would say that there is a new iPhone out later this year, not to mention that it will most probably carry the name “iPhone 5S” for all intents and purposes, keeping in line with what has deemed to be tradition, or at least, historically speaking. Rumors are flying around that Apple’s upcoming iPhone, which is said to roll out in 2014 (that would also place it under the category of iPhone 6 rumors), will boast of a polycarbonate body that is not different from the kind of material which saw action on Apple’s now defunct base-model MacBook laptop.

The iPhone 6 is also rumored to come with a larger 4.5-inch display (hmm, by the time 2014 rolls around, 4.5” might just be too archaic, considering the way phablets are stamping their mark all over the place even this year) and will sport a slightly thicker body compared to current generation iPhones. I would strongly advise you to take this bit of news with an extremely large grain of salt, especially when it is said that the iPhone 6 will come with a retail price point of $330.

Designer Imagines What An iPhone Phablet And iPhone Mini Might Look Like

0010

Big screens are the talk of the town at MWC. Got nothing else to announce that makes your handset stand out from the crowd? Throw a huge screen on the sucker. Or just put phone features in a tablet and call it a day. Apple seems to be the only smartphone OEM out there without a giant-screened smartphone, but designer Peter Zigich has created a concept of what a Cupertino phablet could look like, should Apple ever feel the need to big it up.

In a new blog post, Zigich envisions a number of different concepts for a next-generation iPhone, including a design that gains screen real estate simply by shifting the home button to the side of the device, clearing the entire front for display. That adds an extra row of apps, above and beyond the five plus dock available on the iPhone 5. A recessed, side-mounted home button actually makes a lot of sense, especially with one on each side for convenience/ambidextrous use, as Zigich has placed them in his mockup. Would Apple actually add a button to its design in the real world though? Never, say I.

Zigich’s basic iPhone 6 redesign borrows cues from the iPad mini to reduce the size of the bezel around the display, which is feasible if Apple integrates its accidental screen edge touch filters to the smartphone. The designer also employs the same tricks in developing an iPhone mini concept, and what he calls an “iPhone 6 XL,” or an iOS powered equivalent of a Galaxy Note-style handset with a big ol’ screen.

With his nearly edge-to-edge screen, Zigich says that his concept is still perfectly usable with one hand, which has been a sticking point for Apple in the past, at least in terms of the public line it has taken regarding bigger displays on smartphones. And the squat iPhone mini uses the same size screen as is found in an iPhone 4/4S, but in a much smaller package thanks to the new placement of the home button(s) and the shrunken bezel elements.

These concepts are excellent in that they don’t venture too far from Apple’s current design, making them look and feel like something we could actually see out of Cupertino, but despite their merits I doubt we’ll see Apple unveil very similar designs at any upcoming event. Still, with rumors of different screen sizes and new iPhone SKUs flying, it’s interesting to see a material take on how exactly Apple might go about that kind of product differentiation.

iPhone 6 Rumored To Have Been Delayed To 2014

iPhone 6 Rumored To Have Been Delayed To 2014A week ago we reported that according to rumors, the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 could be seeing a launch in 2013. The iPhone 5S (or whatever it’s going to be called) is more or less a certainty given Apple’s track record, but two phones in a year? That seems like a stretch and very unlike Apple, although given that Apple launched the iPad 4 less than a year after the iPad 3, we guess it’s hard to say what Apple’s thinking. However according to a recent report released by Peter Misek, an analyst at Jefferies, he claims that the iPhone 6 with a 4.8” display will only see a release in 2014, suggesting that it would miss its supposed 2013 schedule due to possible production problems with regards to its display. His report says, “We think in- cell is having difficulty ramping to 4.8”, which is making Apple look at switching to on-cell (a different integrated touchscreen technology) and OLED (despite Apple’s suppliers being well behind Samsung in their OLED capabilities) or IGZO.”

It should be noted that Misek does not exactly have the best track record when it comes to predicting future moves made by Apple, although to his credit he did predict that the iPhone will be arriving on Sprint and T-Mobile back in 2011. In any case what do you guys think? Will 2014 be too late for Apple to join the big screen market? After all Android competitors like HTC, Sony, Samsung, and LG have phablets that are sized at least 5”, so a 4.8” display in 2014 seems a bit slow, don’t you think? Either way we won’t read too much into this prediction, but let us know what you guys think in the comments below!

iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 Rumored For 2013 Launch

iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 Rumored For 2013 LaunchSome of you guys might have heard that Apple could be set to launch an iPhone 5S and an iPhone (with the latter supposedly featuring a 5” display). Apart from the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 6 does not really make sense as this does not fall with Apple’s tradition of releasing one smartphone a year, but then again with Apple currently under the leadership of Tim Cook, perhaps things are starting to change and with the competition getting fiercer, we wouldn’t be surprised if Cook decided that breaking tradition might not be such a bad idea after all.

With that being said, assuming these rumors are true, when exactly will these alleged iDevices launch? According to a translated report from the Chinese media (via Brightwire), word on the street has it that the iPhone 5S and iPhone 6 are set to launch later this year. Like we said earlier, the launch of the iPhone 5S would not be surprising, but two smartphones in a year would. The report goes on to claim that the iPhone 5S resembles the iPhone 5, although we expect that the changes would probably be under the hood,  while the iPhone 6 is both lighter and thinner, rather interesting considering it has a larger display (or so they say). We will take this with a grain of salt for now and suggest you do the same, but what do you guys think of a 5” iPhone?

iPhone 6 Tested By Apple?

iphone 5 review 23 640x426 iPhone 6 Tested By Apple? To say that Apple is not working on a new iPhone is an understatement. They definitely would not give up that cash cow of theirs, and so we do know that there is a new iPhone as well as a new version of iOS under the wraps, where the latter will most probably ditch the skeuomorphic design. The Next Web have claimed that they have evidence of the next generation iPhone as well as operating system in the pipeline, where one iOS developer did mention that there is a device named “iPhone 6,1″ which runs on iOS 7, and this was performing requests from an IP address that is located deep within the bowels of Apple’s Cupertino campus.

Do you think that this is a red herring on Apple’s part, or are they really testing out the real deal? How about a prank by someone who spoofed an Apple IP address and the iPhone and iOS identifiers for fun? The possibilities are there, and we would strongly advise you to take this bit of information with more than the usual pinch of salt, as patience is the only real way of figuring out the truth. As Mulder once said, the truth is out there, and it could be sitting in a lab somewhere on Apple’s campus.
