iphone-5s-review-006

Over the past few weeks we have been hearing rumors that the next generation iPhone, commonly referred to as the iPhone 6, is going to have a larger display. Most of these rumors have come from supply chain sources or otherwise questionable sources, but now the prestigious Wall Street Journal has ran a story claiming to have heard that the iPhone 6 is indeed going to have a larger display. According to the Journal, two iPhones will be launched this year, one with a 4.5 inch display and the other with a display greater than 5 inches.

iPhone 6 Design With 4.8 Inch Display ‘Locked Down’ [Analyst]

    iphone-5s-review-012

Timothy Arcuri, an analyst at Cowen and Company, claims that Apple has “locked down” iPhone 6 design and that it will come with a 4.8 inch display. It should be kept in mind that Apple is not expected to launch the iPhone 6 until at least September 2014, so its not like the company doesn’t have time to make a few changes here and there before the device goes into mass production, presumably by the end of Q2, 2014. Arcuri believes that Apple will finally subscribe to the trend of smartphones with larger displays, it has already been consistently rumored that the next flagship to come out of Cupertino will have a larger display.

    iPhone 6 Concept Video Surfaces

There is nothing quite like having a concept video appear for a particular device, especially when you know that this particular device is going to be a hot ticket item by the time it hits the market. It is a safe bet to say that any generation iPhone is going to garner plenty of attention, and with the upcoming iPhone 6, we have seen in recent times that the rumors are starting to pile up thick and fast. Here is not quite a rumor, but rather, an idea from a fan as to how the iPhone 6 might look like as depicted in the YouTube video above.

iPhone 6 Touch ID Fingerprint Scanner Production To Start In Q2 [Rumor]

iPhone 6 Touch ID Fingerprint Scanner Production To Start In Q2 [Rumor]

It may have only been a couple of months since Apple released its new iPhones, but already rumors about the next iPhone have started circulating. Apple is expected to stick with its traditional release cycle for its 2014 flagship, which means that we can expect it to be announced in or around September. So far there has been a steady stream of rumors, some believe it will have a larger display and will be thinner and lighter than its predecessors. The latest rumor suggests that the iPhone 6 will retain the Touch ID fingerprint scanner that debuted with the existing flagship, the iPhone 5s.

Taiwan Semiconductor or TSMC is the manufacturer that produces Touch ID sensors for the iPhone 5s. Rumor has it that the manufacturer has secured a contract to start producing said sensors for the next generation iPhone in Q2, 2014. This falls in line with the other rumors we have been hearing, presumably production of these scanners will coincide with mass production of iPhone 6, which is expected to begin either by the end of Q2 or at the start of Q3, 2014. As always, Apple is mum about its smartphone plans and is yet to drop any hints of what we can expect from 2014′s flagship iPhone.

iPhone 6 Camera Will Reportedly Have Optical Image Stabilization

iPhone 6 Camera Will Reportedly Have Optical Image Stabilization

Apple has never taken part in the megapixel race with its rivals. Its latest flagship, the iPhone 5S, proudly boasts an 8 megapixel camera while most of its Android rivals have 13 megapixel cameras. The company chose to focus on radically improving image processing and opted to work on better lenses and sensors. Despite that, there’s one thing that’s missing, something that greatly enhances overall performance: Optical Image Stabilization or OIS. Rumor has it that Apple is now working on this technology and plans to introduce it in its next flagship, the iPhone 6.

A patent application called VCM OIS actuator module has been recently discovered which reveals just how improved autofocus and OIS will be incorporated in an iPhone’s camera. The method describes employing voice coil motor actuators to give the camera lens some wiggle room around the optical axis, this would result in better autofocus as well as Optical Image Stabilization. The patent reveals that Apple has been working on this technology since at least 2012, but its not immediately clear right now how far they have come along. We have already started hearing rumors about the iPhone 6, and this patent makes it seem like it will tout OIS. Its a bit too soon to be absolutely sure right now, we’ll have to wait and see if there’s any more chatter about the camera on Apple’s next generation iPhone.

Pegatron Reportedly Responsible For Half Of iPhone 6′s Assembly

Pegatron Reportedly Responsible For Half Of iPhone 6s AssemblyFor the most part, Apple’s lineup of iPhones has typically been assembled by Foxconn, but according to a new report from Taiwan’s Liberty Times, half of Apple’s assembly of the device will be given to Pegatron to do. The report did not state who the other half will be, but chances are that it will be Foxconn. As it stands, Pegatron is responsible for devices like the iPad mini and the iPhone 5c while Foxconn is responsible for devices like the iPhone 5s. Foxconn has typically been Apple’s main go-to guy when it comes to assembly of their products, but recently in a bid to reduce reliance on a single company as well as to reduce supply-chain risk, Apple has turned to other companies to help them with their products.

In fact Apple’s reliance on Pegatron is only expected to grow with reports that Pegatron will be opening up a new plant in China to help keep up with demand. It’s odd that the report only mentions one device, the iPhone 6, because if the previous rumors have any credibility to them, Apple is said to launch two phones: one of the 4.7-inch variety, and one of the 5.7-inch variety. Our report on an earlier rumor also suggested that instead of going the 16MP camera route which most companies are expected to take in 2014, Apple will instead retain its 8MP camera but will introduce improved camera functions, such as optical image stabilization. That’s not such a bad thing as we have said before since higher megapixels do not necessarily translate into better photos.

In any case take it with a grain of salt for now, but here’s hoping we will find out more in the coming weeks/months.

Alleged (But Possibly Fake) iPhone 6 Metal Band Surfaces In Photos

Alleged (But Possibly Fake) iPhone 6 Metal Band Surfaces In PhotosIs it a little too early to start discussing iPhone 6 rumors? Well we suppose not, and now thanks to a leaked photo making its rounds on the internet (courtesy of GizChina via C Technology), it seems that we might be looking at what they claim is the metal frame for Apple’s iPhone 6. Upon first glance it would seem that is the case as the frame does look bigger than the iPhone 5/5s which corroborates the rumors that Apple will be bumping the display size of the iPhone this year to possible phablet proportions. However upon taking a closer look, there are certain aspects of it that has us, and many other reputable publications, thinking that what we are looking at might be a fake.

For starters the metal band designed ceased to be used by Apple when they introduced the iPhone 5 where they relied on a unibody enclosure, allowing the overall design of the phone to be thinner, and to a certain extent it would be very un-Apple if they were to go ahead and make their next-gen iPhone thicker than before. Apple had also swapped the headphone jack from the top of the phone to the bottom part of the phone, placing it close to the Lighting port. The photo clearly shows the headphone jack positioned at the top next to either the ambient light sensor or the front-facing camera.

The reason the headphone jack has been positioned at the bottom is because it is more “natural”, not only for slipping and taking out of one’s pocket, but also because it lets the cable fall naturally and does not obscure the view of the user, as opposed to placing it at the top where the cable might fall across the screen. Those are some of the features that has many speculating that the photo isn’t real. So where did this component come from? Could it be an older prototype or could it have been completely fabricated? It’s hard to say but take it with a grain of salt for now.

iPhone 6 Rumor Claims It Will Be Called iPhone Air

iPhone 6 Rumor Claims It Will Be Called iPhone Air

We are bound to hear all sorts of crazy rumors about future Apple products until the company finally unveils them. One of the most highly anticipated devices that Apple is to release in 2014 is its next generation iPhone, which some believe will finally come with a larger display. iPhone 6 is also rumored to sport a radical redesign, considering the fact that all iPhones up from the iPhone 4 have more or less looked the same. South Korean publication ET News has heard from a source that iPhone 6 will be called iPhone Air and that its going to be significantly thinner than all previous iPhones.

The current flagship, iPhone 5s, measures in at 7.6mm. iPhone Air is said to be only 6mm, which would definitely make it worthy of the “Air” moniker that Apple uses with its slim MacBook and latest iPad. A metal build has been rumored, and it is claimed that the next generation iPhone will be heavier than its predecessors. It is expected to be released in September 2014, which would tie-in nicely with Apple’s usual release cycle. It has been mentioned in the report that the new iPhone will come with a larger display, though the source doesn’t weigh in on the size. If rumors are to be believed, it could be as high as 5.7 inches.

iPhone Phablet Reportedly Set For Release In May 2014

iPhone Phablet Reportedly Set For Release In May 2014

It has been rumored time and again that Apple is going to launch the iPhone with a larger display in 2014. Rumor has it that Apple is currently testing out a number of display sizes, some large enough to push it into phablet territory. If a latest rumor is to be believed, the iPhone phablet may perhaps be a totally different series with its own release cycle. An article published recently by Yahoo Japan claims that the phablet is going to be released in May 2014 and that its going to be completely separate from the iPhone 6, which will be released when the release cycle is up in September 2014.

It goes without saying that the authenticity of this rumor can definitely be called into question, so take this with a grain of salt. No specifications are mentioned in the report, but it is claimed that the iPhone phablet isn’t going to be powered by Apple’s A8 SoC expected to debut with the iPhone 6. The report doesn’t even say anything about the phablet’s expected display size. Recent rumors suggest that it might be up to 5.7 inches, so we have just that to go on at this point in time. Do you believe that Apple will unveil its first ever phablet in May, or that this is just one of those rumors that’s never going to pan out?

iPhone 6 Release Rumored For May 2014

iPhone 6 Release Rumored For May 2014

It hasn’t been long since Apple released its new iPhones this year. Traditionally the company releases new smartphones after a one year cycle, but if latest rumors are to be believed, perhaps we might get a new iPhone much sooner next year. Infamous Taiwanese trade publication Digitimes  claims to have heard from supply chain sources that Apple is gearing up to launch the iPhone 6 in May 2014. It will supposedly have a 20nm processor manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and a larger display, possibly around 5 inches.

There have already been a lot of rumors about Apple working on iPhones with larger displays, the company is expected to bump up the display size in 2014. However, it is widely believed that a new iPhones probably won’t be launched until fall 2014, May just doesn’t fit Apple’s traditional release cycles. Furthermore, the publication’s sources also believe that the 12.9 inch larger iPad is on its way next year as well, in October to be precise. According to the sources, this tablet is going to be geared towards educational markets in North America. Both of these products have been rumored in the past, and they’re supposed to be on track for a 2014 release, even if the timelines don’t add up right now. Apple CEO Tim Cook has already said that the company has “big plans” next year, wonder if they include setting away from years of tradition.
