Smart Diapers – Not What You Think

Unknown

When I first got a lead on the development of Smart Diapers, I was initially concerned that I would be getting tweets, or messages involving the contents of said diapers, with, or without photographic evidence, sent to my iPhone. Well, we can all heave a collective sigh of relief, as this is not the case, what these diapers can do seems to be a whole lot more useful…

Check out Smart Diapers, and Briefs. Outfitted with special QR code that is scanned once a day, these protective garments instantly begin to analyze the data, looking for signs of UTIs, dehydration and developing kidney problems in the children, or adults that wear them. By utilizing the data from a wet Pixie Diaper or Brief, you can make use of something that would normally be thrown into the trash. The Pixie Brief or Diaper,  and it’s associated application will automatically look for emerging trends in your loved one’s health, and will alert you to some of the conditions that may require a physician’s attention.

Infants, Alzheimers patients, folks with diminished capacity, or the inability to communicate could all benefit from a wearable device that could alert caregivers to potential problems with dehydration, kidney function, or urinary infections, that have the ability to turn catastrophic very quickly. Now, while you can’t find any of these diapers next to the nappy’s on store shelves just yet, if you are taking care of an aging adult, there is an ongoing pilot project you may be able to able to take advantage of, but for babies, you needed to be an early adopter of the  indiegogo.com Smart Diapers campaign and then, for around 25 bucks, your kiddo would have been sporting some high tech potty pants one day mid summer.

Push is a spring-loaded smartphone case that will keep your valuables hidden

Push Case Knock on wood
We keep so many things in our pockets and bags that it’s starting to become annoying trying to keep track of it all. Things were bad enough when you just had your keys and wallet, but now there’s a phone, cables, and other gizmos tossed into the mix. We don’t want to make things too difficult for ourselves, and as such try to find new ways to combine the things that we deem necessary to have around.

Two things that we certainly don’t want to lose are our cards and phones, which is why the Push looks wonderfully useful. I currently use a case that looks very similar to a book, and folds out so you can see what cards or cash I have on hand (not particularly safe). The Push will hide all of that right behind the phone, and to access it, you only need to press a button. Your valuables stored inside will pop out halfway so nothing jettisons out of your case, and will make getting to your most used method of payment very simple.

This case is available for the iPhone 5/5S/5C, and the Samsung Galaxy series. You’ll be able to choose between red, black, blue, yellow, pink, white, or ‘knock on wood’ for your case color and don’t worry, the button is low profile enough that you’re not going to accidentally hit it all the time. It can hide 3 cards, or 2 cards and what will quite like equal one or two bills. You will certainly know for sure if it’s closed, as it gives you an audible ‘click’. This case will cost you around $40, and is currently available for preorder.

SteelSeries Stratus Wireless Gaming Controller is for the iOS gaming elite

steelseries_stratus_wireless_gaming_controller-black
There comes a time where you pass the threshold of simply being a gamer to one of the gaming elite. It takes a lot of practice, but once you’re there, you can’t really go back. You’re not only aware of issues within each game to a more severe degree, but you also understand how important your tools are when facing a foe of equal level.

When it comes to mobile games, the competition is not nearly as stiff as PC, but there are those who want to have the right tools at hand. If you played more on console, but find yourself addicted to mobile games, then the Steelseries Stratus seems like it might be worth having in your gaming utility belt. This is very sensitive to pressure, has extended battery life, and uses LED notifications to let you know how you’re doing in-game.

Appearance-wise it looks like an Xbox and Playstation controller melted together. It’s said to work with iOS 7 or later, the iPhone 5, 5c, iPad Mini, iPad Air, as well as the 5th gen of the iPod Touch. It’s only available for preorder at the moment at around $100, but will be shipping out in the next month or so. Seeing that there aren’t as wide of a variety of games available on Mac as there are on PC, this doesn’t seem like a great idea unless you’re just really an Apple fan.

Available for preorder on Steelseries, found via Technabob
