94Fifty Smart Sensor Basketball – a Coach in your Pocket!

94fifty-header

Infomotion Sports Technologies was on hand at CES Unveiled here in NYC this week and they wowed me with their 94Fifty Smart Sensor Basketball. It’s a pretty regular-looking regulation size and weight basketball, that can measure and diagnose your skills, helping you up your game, just like a tiny coach you can carry around in your pocket. Yup, a basketball coach for your iPhone – there’s an app for that!

This nifty, unassuming ball utilizes nine sensors located inside it, enabling it to deliver real-time shooting and ball-handling feedback including shot speed, backspin and arc measurements, and it sends all that useful info directly to your iPhone or iPod touch. The 94Fifty includes a companion app, that allows you to choose specific skills to work on, opt to compete with other players around the world via Twitter, or simply work through levels of increasingly difficult workouts.

Imagine a ball that can precisely measure your skill set, and then quickly utilize that data in order to “coach” you with proven, personalized methods meant to improve shooting mechanics, shot release speed, shooting arc, power dribbling, hand-speed, mental coordination, and many other skills that have been traditionally impossible to measure.

The 94Fifty App is optimized for iOS 7, gives you the ability to share your achievements with friends, family and coaches via your social media networks, and is available now for just under 300 bucks, and if you have a budding basketball star in your family, this might just be the holiday gift you’ve been looking for! Look for it today at Apple Retail Stores and online at shop.94fifty.com. The App is available for free from the App Store or visit infomotionsports.com for videos and much more information.

iPhone Binoculars cater for the latest iPhone 5s, too

iphone-binocularsEarlier this year, before the iPhone 5s was released, we talked about a binocular adapter for the iPhone which is said to offer your smartphone a whole new way of snapping photos and recording videos. Well, the advent of the iPhone 5s would mean that a slew of new peripherals need to be developed again to cater for the latest iPhone model, and the $99.95 iPhone Binoculars would be just the thing.

Basically, this is no adapter, but rather, they are actual field binoculars which will attach to an iPhone to deliver an easy viewing and recording experience. Via the view through the eyepiece, it will be able to transfer everything it surveys to the phone’s camera lens, where it will then transform the phone into a viewfinder so that you can share the sights with friends or to snap photos of whatever action that is going on at that point in time. There will be 36mm lenses on the binoculars that deliver 8X magnification, delivering a total of a 426-foot field of view at 1,000 yards. The included phone cases will fit the iPhone 5S/5 and 4S/4, and the field glasses also double up as a pair of standard binoculars when detached.

iKettle – Control your kettle from your phone

Hot coffee, the elixir of early risers and sleepy people everywhere. Its hard to imagine a world without a nice cup of coffee waiting for us to soothe our souls, perk us up or bring us back to life. In a perfect world, coffee would make itself while I was still in bed and arrive at my bedside via a tall blonde bodybuilder with a subtle European accent of some kind. I can dream, can’t I?

Unknown

In the meantime, there’s iKettle, allowing you to instantly control hot beverage making from anywhere in your house by using your iPhone. Simply set your system to Wake Mode, and the next morning you will be gently called to consciousness and asked if you would like to have the kettle on. ( not sure about the accent) If your answer is yes, you will later be asked if you’d like it to be kept warm.

Maybe coffee isn’t your thing and it’s a nice relaxing cup of tea that get’s you rolling. iKettle has four precise temperature settings, designed to help you achieve the perfect brew whether it be green tea, or java. With its sleek stainless steel design, and one-touch settings, the 1.8 liter iKettle can wake you up, or welcome you home with a steaming hot beverage. And let’s face it, where would you keep a tall blonde bodybuilder anyway?

iKettle is easy to clean with a removable heating element, has an automatic shut off, and boil-dry protection, works with your homes WiFi connection and will be available for delivery in the UK in a few weeks, no word yet on when it will be available here in the States, but I’m hoping it’s very soon. The iKettle can be pre-ordered from firebox.com for right around 160 bucks. We’ll keep you posted when it jumps the pond.

iPin Laser Pointer will make your smartphone presentation-ready

iPin
Doing a presentation can be extremely stressful. You have to look professional, stay within a certain time limit so your audience doesn’t lose interest, and make sure your information is well-organized and easy to understand. Of course, when you want to make specific points, having a laser pointer handy would be a good idea as well, but it is one more thing to remember to bring.

Needless to say, this is a lot to keep track of. While there are few ‘tools’ that you need for this occasion such as a projector and a computer, there are ways to make the whole process go much smoother. The iPin is a sort of Swiss army knife for those who have to get up and play show-and-tell to an audience. This is a laser pointer that pairs with an extremely useful app. Sadly, this is only for iPhone users from the 3S-current generations.

It plugs directly into your 3.5mm jack, and can be left there during your day-to-day activities. To make sure it’s not on, simply twist it ninety degrees. When you’re ready to go, open the app and tap the button. The app will also give you a timer so you can keep things short and sweet, give you a track pad by swiping up, and allow you to flip through slides. This will cost you around $50, and I would surely hope that the app is part of the purchase. Keep in mind that you will need to connect to WiFi to use this.

iPin Laser Presenter makes its way to North America

ipin-laserI am not quite sure about you, but when it comes to making a presentation, there are some essential tools that one will have to take into consideration. One, you will need to make sure that the venue has a projector which is bright enough to ensure everyone in the presentation hall will be able to get a good look at what you are trying to convey to them, and two, a laser presenter which makes it a whole lot easier to point out certain areas on the presentation screen to the audience. Just like how not all headphones are created equal, you have the award winning iPin laser presenter which will be able to turn your iPhone into a professional laser presenter.

The iPin laser presenter hails from Conary Enterprise, and it has already picked up its fair share of accolades in the past including the COMPUTEX 2013 d&i Gold Award. Good to know that it has finally made its way to the folks over in North America, so if you know that you have this particular presentation that you want to make to win a multi-million contract for your company, but are hoping that the right tool comes along to complete the picture, the iPin laser presenter would do the trick.

The iPin is a small, iPhone-powered laser pointer and presenter which will be accompanied by its own slide-controlling app. This is one delicately designed device which transforms your iPhone into a professional presentation system, where it takes just seconds to do so. Of course, if you are an avid Android fan, you will just have to sit this puppy out since it caters for the iPhone market only at this point in time.

The iPin would be placed nearly flush with the phone surface, and it can be turned on and off with but a simple twist. Needless to say, when it is turned off, it will not interfere with normal phone operations, making this the ideal tool for those who run plenty of presentations for a living.

Hyperjuice 2 – Tech Charging Powerhouse!

21WywuC4WkL

I can’t speak for the rest of the world, but the steady approach of the end of October has me a little uneasy. For the past 2 years the Northwest has been hit, and hit hard, by snowstorms and hurricanes. The memories of sitting around for weeks without power still makes most folks a little uncomfortable. This year we’re ready (which of course means it’s not going to happen) but we’re ready nonetheless.

Check out Hyperjuice 2, an amazing little external battery pack for your Macbook, iPad, iPhone or Smartphone. The Hyperjuice 2 isn’t just your everyday back up battery, this attractive aluminum box is quite possibly one of the world’s most advanced battery packs, Equipped with 2 high power 10W (5V, 2.1A max) USB ports that can charge any 2 USB devices (even 2 iPads) simultaneously!

Hyperjuice 2 has an 85W output that is actually capable of handling a Macbook Pro with Retina display for up to 18 hours, or run your brand new iPad for around 34 hours (and an older one for up to 50) or fully recharge your phone about 19 times. The cool low profile, rectangular design allows the casing, lithium ion battery cells or the logic board to be replaced separately, making the unit maintainable and environmentally  friendly. OLED displays on the face of the unit provide detailed battery information like status, power percentage, temperature and even the time it will take to fully charge or discharge.

So, if you don’t like being off the grid, for any reason, the Hyperjuice 2 might be for you. It’s important to note that Apple has required that for the battery to work with your MacBook, you will also need the Do-it-Yourself Magic Box kit which is sold separately. The cost of this much power doesn’t come cheap however, with a price tag around 300 bucks at amazon.com, but next time you’re sitting in the dark trying to read by candlelight, you’ll wish you had it.

One thing’s for sure. I am an animal lover. Since I was a kid I have always felt like my life was enhanced by sharing it with a little creature of some kind. Petcube also let’s others play with your pets, and you can even share your interactions with social media sites. Future plans for this device include installations in animal shelters, allowing friends of animals or potential adopters to play with the pets.

Oyster Books – Because the World is your iPhone

activity_profile-1

I guess everyone knows by now that I’m a huge fan of subscription services. I love using Netflix and Amazon Prime for my movies, I use a service for my music too. Sure, I have a Roku Player, Internet TV and everything else that lets me sift through tons on content in the blink of an eye. The more the better, but what about my e-reader? When it comes to that, I pretty much get just one book at a time…

To be honest, my e-reader is dead in a drawer somewhere, in favor of my iPod, which has exactly one book on it… until now. Check out Oyster, the new subscription service for big readers. Oyster gives you one-tap access to an endless supply of well designed books, with beautiful (customizable) typography and the ability to share your favorites with your friends, and even get recommendations. Oyster offers all this, and, unlimited access to over 100,000 books, all for under 10 bucks a month, with new titles being added all the time.

I guess some folks start a book and stick with it until its finished, but I find that sometimes, I like a little variety in my reading material. I believe that having so many options will inspire me to read even more. Oyster has a heck of a lot to offer, from Michael Crichton to J.R.R. Tolkien and everything in between, including kids books, complete with color illustrations. I’m loving it.

So, if you’re a huge reader, or you simply aspire to be one, head on over to Oysterbooks.com and sign up for your special invitation, or just get some more information. You’ll be so glad you did. Oyster is currently only available for your iPhone, and here in the United States, but an iPad version should be available to us later this Fall, no word yet on international availability. Let’s let our gadget-riddled brains relax with a few good books, shall we?
