Just this week Samsung revealed the Galaxy S5. It’s water-resistant. Sony also announced the Xperia Z2, the waterproof successor to the also waterproof Z1. So where’s my waterproof iPhone? The technology and demand are here. Water-resistant or waterproof, Samsung and Sony’s latest flagships are waterproof enough that a drop in the toilet will not destroy the device. That’s… Read More
You shouldn’t really have been worrying
It does seem as though both Apple and Gorilla Glass will be kissing each other goodbye when the iPhone 6 hits the market. Apparently, Apple will be making the jump to a sapphire screen-coating for their next generation iPhone, and just in case you were wondering, sapphire coating has long been a feature in high-end watches for quite some time already because of its high-durability and scratch-resistance capabilities. Right now, sapphire coating on an iPhone is limited to its camera lenses as well as the iPhone 5s’ fingerprint sensor. It has been rumored as well that the upcoming iWatch device will also feature sapphire coating.

iPhone 6 Release In July [Analyst]
Posted in: Today's ChiliThis week has all been about 2014 flagships. At Mobile World Congress many companies showed off the devices that are their new flagships. Apple doesn’t officially take part in this event, its software related announcements are made every summer at WWDC. The company holds off most of its mobile device announcements until fall. Though recently there have been rumors that Apple might unveil the new iPhones a bit early this time around, and an analyst running checks on Apple’s suppliers in Asia claims that this just might be the case.

Humans can see an impressive 120-degree arc, but we’re not capable of focusing on all of that vision at once. Panoramic photographs stretch that sight to 180 or 360 degrees, and even better, 100% of that image is in attention-grabbing focus. Here are the 29 panoramas from this week’s Shooting Challenge.
Unlike other manufacturers, Apple releases products once a year. They refresh their Mac computer lineups on an annual basis, their iPads on an annual basis, and their iPhones on an annual basis. You see where we’re going here. That being said, is it a bad thing to release phones only once a year? Well apparently Sony’s mobile chief and European president, Pierre Perron, thinks so, according to an interview with The Inquirer. (more…)

No Green Seen on iPhone Bills

There’s so much talk these days of ways that we can “go green” and how everybody can make a difference. Apparently AT&T hasn’t put any effort into ways that they can go green to save the Earth and save money at the same time. iPhone bills have gone out and they are massive! We’re talkin’ 52 double-sided pages, or a total of 104 printed pages. Talk about a waste of paper!
Cell phone bills have always seemed difficult to read and understand what it was that you were being charged for, but now imagine 104 pages of that! I don’t envy anybody who has to sift through all of those pages to review what they were charged for, and if any mistakes were made. We all know that some of these companies do make mistakes and charge you for something you didn’t use, but it may not be worth the time it’ll take to check and see.
What’s even worse is that AT&T is itemizing all of the data usage used when someone surf’s the web with the EDGE network. Most iPhone customers have unlimited data plans, so the itemization would only make sense for those who are on limited plans. This image from Ars shows the itemized data portion of the bill, and as you can see, the total charge for each was $0!
While AT&T really isn’t in a “green” frame of mind, you can easily solve this problem by opting into their paperless billing. I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer to go without those 50 extra sheets of paper every month and save a tree or two.

GT Advanced Technologies’ Sapphire Arrangement With Apple Is Progressing Well
Posted in: Today's ChiliAs we’re sure most of you guys know by now, Apple has partnered up with GT Advanced Technologies to produce sapphire. We’re not sure what Apple plans to use sapphire for. Some have speculated it could be used for the new iPhone 6 display, while others believe it might be used for the rumored iWatch instead.
In any case it seems that the partnership between Apple and GT Advanced Technologies seems to be going pretty well, and in the company’s earnings announcement for the fourth quarter of 2013, they noted that it would be a “transformational” year for them, while putting their deal with Apple into perspective. 2014 is well underway and a smartphone that’s expected to perform quite well this year has already been unveiled, just yesterday Samsung finally lifted the wraps off of the Galaxy S5. One can expect that existing Galaxy S4 owners will be lining up to get their hands on one once it actually hits shelves, but its also possible that Samsung’s latest flagship might also entice customers on other platforms to jump ship. SellCell reports that prior to yesterday’s unveiling of the Galaxy S5, it saw a 48 percent increase in iPhone trade-ins over the weekend.

They say that an accident knows no boundaries, and these people are definitely correct in saying so. The thing is, we on our part, are able to reduce the risk of bad stuff happening in an accident. Take David McGregor for instance – he did hook up his iPhone 4 to himself while he went kayaking, wrapping the smartphone in a waterproof Optrix case. Unfortunately, when he was out at sea paddling away, his iPhone 4 did not make it and fell right into the waters there. The more amazing thing was this, the handset actually managed to remain workable (after charging up its battery, of course) despite spending 82 days under water prior to being washed up on the beach.
