Logitech PowerShell Controller + Battery unveiled for those who want something different in portable gaming

logitech-powershellThe name Logitech itself does invoke a sense of respect when it comes to computer peripherals, as this particular company has certainly come a long way from making functional mice as well as tiny speakers to accompany your computer. In fact, Logitech has also thrown itself into the gaming peripheral scene with a fair number of interesting efforts that are able to duke it out with the very best in the industry. The mobile scene, too, has changed its face over the years and have gotten a whole lot more complicated than the standard issue Game & Watch from Nintendo. This time around, Logitech has announced the new PowerShell Controller + Battery that offers a unique portable gaming perspective.

Of course, you would first need to own an iPhone 5s, iPhone 5, or iPod touch (5th generation) that runs on iOS 7, before you are able to enjoy the Logitech PowerShell Controller + Battery. Basically, with Logitech’s latest offering, it will be able to transform your compatible iOS7 device into a pocket sized mobile console. Needless to say, there is one particular drawback for all portable consoles, and that would be a lack of battery life. You would be pleased to hear that the PowerShell Controller + Battery from Logitech would not be a vampire and sap juice from your device, but rather, it will have the ability to double your play time thanks to its on board battery.

This can be considered to be a first-of-its-kind mobile gaming console, where all you need to do is to insert your compatible iPhone or iPod touch into the controller just like how you would do with a standard issue case, and you are good to go. Expect to enjoy a familiar console experience with this puppy thanks to the inclusion of a D-pad, shoulder triggers and face buttons. Delivery of this bad boy is expected to happen next month.

Oyster Books – Because the World is your iPhone

activity_profile-1

I guess everyone knows by now that I’m a huge fan of subscription services. I love using Netflix and Amazon Prime for my movies, I use a service for my music too. Sure, I have a Roku Player, Internet TV and everything else that lets me sift through tons on content in the blink of an eye. The more the better, but what about my e-reader? When it comes to that, I pretty much get just one book at a time…

To be honest, my e-reader is dead in a drawer somewhere, in favor of my iPod, which has exactly one book on it… until now. Check out Oyster, the new subscription service for big readers. Oyster gives you one-tap access to an endless supply of well designed books, with beautiful (customizable) typography and the ability to share your favorites with your friends, and even get recommendations. Oyster offers all this, and, unlimited access to over 100,000 books, all for under 10 bucks a month, with new titles being added all the time.

I guess some folks start a book and stick with it until its finished, but I find that sometimes, I like a little variety in my reading material. I believe that having so many options will inspire me to read even more. Oyster has a heck of a lot to offer, from Michael Crichton to J.R.R. Tolkien and everything in between, including kids books, complete with color illustrations. I’m loving it.

So, if you’re a huge reader, or you simply aspire to be one, head on over to Oysterbooks.com and sign up for your special invitation, or just get some more information. You’ll be so glad you did. Oyster is currently only available for your iPhone, and here in the United States, but an iPad version should be available to us later this Fall, no word yet on international availability. Let’s let our gadget-riddled brains relax with a few good books, shall we?

Sound Band lets you listen to music, and still hear the world around you

Sound-band

There are plenty of times when you want to listen to music, but you don’t want to disturb the people around you. This, of course, is why things like headphones and earbuds were invented. However, by design, there are situations where you simply cannot use them safely. These are times when you need to still be able to hear the world around you, such as when you’re riding a bike. What you need is a way to privately listen to music that will still let you hear your surroundings.

Sound Band is a new headset that is aimed to deliver audio into your head, without covering your ears, and blocking out other sounds. It’s able to do this because it doesn’t use conventional speakers to project sound waves. Instead, it uses surface sound technology to transmit the sound waves through the bone and tissue in your head. This results in you hearing the same sounds as you would through conventional speakers, but only the wearer is able to do so.

The Sound Band will connect wirelessly to your music player via Bluetooth, meaning that you won’t need to bother with long messy cables. Unfortunately this does mean that they will need recharged after roughly 5 hours of use. The Kickstarter fund has already surpassed its goal in just a few short days, but you can still pledge $125 and get your own set when they ship out in December.

images

It’s no secret how much I love to take pictures. I just got back from a weeklong vacation, and I’m sure that I mad everyone crazy with all the photography. Funny thing is, while I had my entire arsenal of picture taking equipment with me, most of the fun shots were captured with my iPhone. It’s true, I left the Nikon behind on many occasions, not wanting to lug the sucker around. That being said, some of the shots I got could have been better… much better.

Check out the brand new Olloclip Telephoto + CPL, a nifty, quick connecting lens for your iPhone or iPod Touch that gets you twice as close to the action, and fits in the palm of your hand! Perhaps conditions require you to reduce or remove glare, or maybe you’d like the blue of the ocean to really stand out. You simply need to switch sides, and the circular polarizing lens will have what you need.

Forget about missing the shot, or wishing you could have just a tiny bit more creative control, the new Olloclip Telephoto actually allows you to set depth of field, and tinker with subject focus and, this highly portable accessory can also be used with the separately purchased 3 in 1 lens that includes fisheye, macro, and wide angle options.

You can pre-order the new Olloclip Telephoto at olloclip.com or get 3 in 1 lenses for under 70 bucks at amazon.com. Say Cheese!

Shower Tunes plays your music in the tub

There are a lot of places where people like to listen to music. In the living room, in the car, at your desk, and of course, in the shower. Most of those places are easy to get music to, as there is usually a stereo or computer nearby. If there isn’t, you can always pop on some headphones and plug in your smartphone. Unfortunately, the shower isn’t somewhere that you want to stick an electronic device. However, what if there was a way to safely use your phone or tablet while in the shower?

The Shower Tunes shower curtain is one way to transport the music you love to one of your favorite places to sing. Essentially, what you have is a shower curtain with a plastic pouch for your device. You’ll slide in your phone, tablet, or mp3 player into the pocket from the outside, and then hook up the audio cable. Hit play, zip it up, and you’re ready to rock out. Rather than playing the music through your device’s built-in speakers, it will come out of two speakers attached to the curtain. There is one at the top left, and top right corner of the curtain. As for controlling the music, the pouch is touchscreen-friendly, so you can make sure that you’re listening to exactly what you want.

This might not be the most high tech way to listen to music in your shower, it’s still pretty convenient. It will work with any device that has an audio jack, and keeps it free from moisture. The biggest annoyance will be feeding it the three required AA batteries. If this sounds like what your bathroom needs, you can pick one up for $50.
