Whew – what a day! For those who missed it, Apple held its big event today, revealing the iPhone 5 and new versions of the of the iPod Touch and the iPod Nano. You can see most of the day’s news in our iPhone 5 event wrap-up and our iPod Touch and Nano wrap-up, but of course, even more news about these new iDevices hit after those event wrap-ups were posted. For instance, we went hands-on with the iPhone 5 and then later with the 5th generation iPod Touch before getting the chance to check out Apple’s new EarPods, which have undergone a redesign just in time for the launch of the iPhone 5. If you’re more of an iPod Nano kind of person, then you’ll be pleased to know that we also have you covered in our hands-on with the 7th generation iPod Nano.

Later on in the day, Apple announced pricing for its new Lightning connector adapters (which can get a little steep in places), and released the iOS 6 Golden Master seed for developers ahead of the operating system’s release on September 19. A full list of iPhone 5 specs made it to the Apple Store this afternoon, and we found out that the iPhone 5 will offer both a GSM and CDMA version. iTunes 10.7 was delivered this afternoon as well, as was a gallery of iLuv’s upcoming iPhone 5 products. Toward the end of the day, Apple released a video featuring Jony Ive and Bob Mansfield giving us an introduction to the iPhone 5, and we ask where the iPhone 5′s rumored NFC functionality went.

As big as Apple’s event was, it wasn’t the only thing worth writing about today. A new report suggests that Windows Phone 8 may not be as far along as we thought, and Foxconn is in the public eye again after an undercover worker published a report on the conditions at the now-famous factory. Google was touting the latest Android numbers today, saying that 500 million Android devices have been activated worldwide.

We actually had quite a few stories about NASA today, with the Mars Orbiter finding signs of dry ice snowfall on the surface of the Red Planet. NASA scientists have viewed a massive impact on the surface of Jupiter, and perhaps most importantly, NASA celebrated the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s historic moon speech. Famous (or infamous, depending on whether or not you work for the RIAA) music sharer Jammie Thomas has lost her appeal, meaning that the court is still making her pay that whopping $220,000 fine, and finally tonight, Microsoft has been awarded a patent for an interesting new technology that makes us immediately think of Star Trek.

Apple has a tradition of timing FCC filings for new wireless mobile devices so that they appear just as soon as they’ve been announced, and it’s not about to let up now. We’ve got a trifecta of approvals on the way for 2012 that start with the iPhone 5. What’s hard to miss is the absurd number of cellular bands at work: as Apple had to make separate iPhone 5 models to cover every LTE carrier it supports, on top of the usual alphabet soups for CDMA and GSM, the filing combining the two devices is one of the largest we’ve seen to date. The addition of 5GHz WiFi support only compounds the situation.

A pair of iPods also made their appearances today, and they’ve been given the regulatory once-over as well. The iPod touch has the 5GHz WiFi band included and isn’t special by itself, but the new iPod nano is noteworthy simply for showing up at all — the inclusion of Bluetooth means a spin past the testing facility in addition to some wireless audio. We’re still digging to see if the iPhone or new iPods have any surprises, although you can have a first-hand look through the source links.

Instead of calling it “iPhone Day” we’re just going to call it Apple day. Today Apple took the stage and got everyone excited over the brand new 4-inch iPhone 5. Then in a flash we were talking about iPod Touch and Nano’s. Many speculated new iPod devices were coming, but most said they’d be at a later date. Today however Apple unveiled an awesome new 4-inch iPod Touch 5th generation, and a new and improved nano. We have pictures and all the details below.

Apple surprised everyone when they announced the brand new 5th gen iPod Touch complete with almost everything we love about the iPhone 5. The new iPod Touch gets the same 326 ppi 4-inch Retina Display, as well as that awesome new brushed aluminum design — no more chrome to get covered in scratches. The new iPod Touch is up on Apple.com right this minute and pre-orders start on September 14th. You can get their 32GB iPod Touch in five excellent colors (as shown above) for only $299, then the 64GB model will run you $399. The previous generation iPod Touch has seen a $50 price cut on all models too if you don’t want that beautifully large screen and new dual-core processor — but you should. Apple didn’t confirm the release date but the new device will be shipping in mid October.

That was the star of the show in terms of iPod stuff, but Apple also announced new colors for the original shuffle, as well as a brand new “renanoed” iPod nano for just $149. Yup I just said renanoed as that is exactly what Apple is calling this refresh. Both the new iPod models have the new lightning dock connector, and the new nano is smaller than ever — while getting a bigger screen.

This time around the nano looks more like a mini iPhone. Here you’ve got the “thinnest iPod nano we’ve ever created”, Apple says, with a 38% thinner body at 5.4mm. You also have a home button just like the iPod Touch and iPhone, and a giant button on the left side for play, pause, forward, back, and volume adjustments. The screen has been boasted up to 2.5-inches and is capable of the usual widescreen video viewing. The nano has the same new aluminum design and will also be available in a wide array of colors as we see above. The all new iPod nano will be available for pre-order on September 14th as well, and will ship in October. You can get the 16GB model starting at just $149.

Not to be outdone by a refreshed iPod touch (and, let’s face it, a new iPhone), Apple also shot out a 5.4mm-thick iPod nano today — that’s 38 percent thinner than the one it replaces. We just got our hands on the newest, tiniest music player outside of Apple’s product launch today, replete with a 2.5-inch multitouch panel and a familiar Home button. As you’d expect, the enlarged display is hugely beneficial. While there’s no bona fide version of iOS on here, the stripped-down variant seems sufficient for handling media alone. As if the ability to watch widescreen video wasn’t enough, fitness gurus are also apt to take notice — inbuilt support for Nike+ gear, along with Bluetooth, make this one potent device.

The Lightning connector seems to make a lot of sense here, given the dearth of real estate along the bottom, but somehow the company squeezed a big enough battery in here to net some 30 reported hours of battery life. In playing with it, we found screen transitions to be adequately smooth, and video playback was surprisingly enjoyable to watch. The screen is most definitely less stunning than the one on the iPod touch, but at $149, you can bet quite a bit of these end up in stockings this holiday season.
