EyeFly 3D Film Transforms Mobile Device Screens To 3D Displays

EyeFly 3D Film Transforms Mobile Device Screens To 3D Displays

3D capable mobile displays haven’t gained much traction in the market as yet, but there is a way to transform a standard mobile display in to a 3D capable one. Researchers based in Singapore have developed a special film, called EyeFly 3D, which does just that. It is made up of 500,000 miniaturized lens like structures capable of measuring up to one-thousandth width of a human hair. Working with special Android and iOS apps, the film can render 3D content. Tests have revealed that while screen brightness remains the same after conversion, the actual resolution of the display might appear to have been lowered.

At this point in time EyeFly 3D film is only available for iPhone 5 and the iPod touch 5G. It can be pre-ordered right now, worldwide shipping costs will be included in EyeFly 3D’s $34.95 price tag till May 1st. Shipping is expected to start towards the end of April. The company says that in the coming months, the film will also be released for popular Android devices as well as the iPad. This is certainly a cheaper way to enjoy glasses free 3D on your mobile device, as opposed to purchasing a smartphone such as LG Optimus 3D Max.

iOS 601 released, fixes iPhone 5 OTA software update issue and other bugs update

Been waiting for Apple to refresh its mobile operating system? Well, the wait is over, as Cupertino has just released iOS 6.0.1 with the promise of improvements and bug fixes. We just grabbed the update ourselves, and among the highlights are: a fix for the iPhone 5’s inability to receive OTA software updates, problems with the phone and the 5th-gen iPod Touch connecting to WPA2 encrypted WiFi networks, and other cellular connectivity issues as well. There’s also fixes for a passcode lock bug, a graphical keyboard glitch and a bug that prevented the 5’s camera flash from firing. Sound good? Go grab the download and let us know how it’s treating you in the comments below.

Update: Thanks to our friends at TUAW, we should point out that iPhone 5 owners will need to download an updater app before they can grab 6.0.1.

iPod touch review (2012)

DNP iPod touch review 2012

When last we got a new iPod touch, the fourth-generation from 2010, it was so thin relative to other devices of that era we said it looked like “a toothpick.” Its 7.2mm thinness was unparalleled — at the time. But now, just two years later, the iPhone 5 is less than a half-millimeter thicker, and that is of course packing a lot more wizardry inside. Suddenly, that toothpick is looking a little portly, which means it’s time for the touch to lose a little weight.

Enter the fifth-generation iPod touch, the 2012 model that has slimmed down to a mere 6.1mm in thickness. It’s also about 10 percent lighter — despite being grafted with a new 4-inch Retina display. Not only is it bigger and thinner, but it’s far faster and has hugely improved cameras on both the front and rear. The perfect PMP package for $299? Click on through to find out.

iPod touch enters the fifth generation

Wow, can you believe it? The iPod touch is now in its fifth generation of existence, which is saying something as we do know that Apple takes a slightly different approach to their product line, more often than not using just the same name no matter which generation it is, while their competitors come up with different kinds of names, although lately Samsung has followed Apple in their footsteps with the Galaxy S range. Having said that, just what does the latest iPod touch deliver to the masses? Let us check out whether a dedicated portable media player has a future in the world of smartphones, shall we?

The new iPod touch, just like the iPhone 5, is the thinnest version of the iPod touch to date, where it will share the same display as that on the iPhone 5 – a brilliant 4-inch Retina display, accompanied by a 5 megapixel iSight camera with 1080p HD video recording capability, running on Apple’s beefy A5 chip (which means there is no A6 processor as found on the iPhone 5). Not only that, Apple has also decided to throw in Siri, the intelligent assistant which first debuted on the iPhone 4S, as well as the latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system, iOS 6.

The new iPod touch (5G) will come in pink, yellow, blue, white and silver, black and slate colors, where pre-orders for it will start from September 14th onwards. You will be able to choose from 32GB and 64GB capacities, which will retail for $299 and $399, respectively. Of course, you can make a purchase outright on the Apple Online Store from October onwards. Having said that, the fourth generation iPod touch will still remain available, so Apple has not yet phased that out yet. Has the latest iPod touch impressed you enough to cough up money for it?
