It’s not the first time that Kwikset‘s dabbled in wireless locks, but today the company’s introducing Kēvo, a smartphone- (and tablet-) friendly lock powered by UniKey. The concept is pretty simple: pair a handset (running a special app) with Kēvo via Bluetooth, and simply touch the deadbolt to lock or unlock your door. A keychain fob is also available for those who have not yet joined the smartphone revolution. Kēvo only responds to touch when an authorized device or fob is detected nearby. A triple tap lets anyone lock your door, which is useful if a visitor leaves after you. The deadbolt is battery-powered using four AA cells that last more than a year with normal operation. It features a ring of RGB LEDs for feedback and a standard physical key for backup.
Most of the magic is made possible by tech developed by UniKey. The key (natch) to the entire system is the Kēvo app which lets you manage eKeys. Once logged into the app, you can send and delete eKeys, or transfer them to another device (this also deletes the eKeys associated with a lost handset, for example) — you can even create eKeys that only work once. Currently, the app is only available for iOS, which is a major limitation, but it supports push, email and SMS notifications and keeps a detailed log of which eKeys have accessed Kēvo and when. Pricing and availability remain a mystery, but all in all the system looks pretty clever. Stay tuned for more details, and check out the link below.

We spotted a concept of the iPhone 6 last month that imagined a device without its iconic Home button, which looks like Apple may be considering if a recently published patent is any indication if the company’s future plans.
The patent dubbed “Disappearing button or slider” describes an iPhone that could come with “invisible” buttons and controls that blend into the device when they aren’t in use, to fully appear when needed. Buttons would use the same material as the housing of the device, which would make its blending in even more accurate, and could use selective backlighting to make them appear when tapped or if it senses the motion of your finger, detects heat or sounds. Gmail for iOS has been the go-to application for many of us who use Gmail as their primary email account, but if you want to use other Google products with the application, it has been impossible at this point as Apple currently doesn’t make it possible to change your default applications when opening things like links to websites, YouTube videos or addresses. But Google has just launched a new update to its Gmail for iOS app that now makes it possible to launch not only different default programs, but programs designated for the type of link that’s clicked on.
Prior to the update, clicking on any link within the Gmail for iOS application would launch Safari, but now, users will be able to launch Chrome, Google Maps or YouTube directly from within the app. This is a setting we’re sure many iOS users who also use these Google products would certainly appreciate, although if you would rather not use this feature, you have the choice to turn them on or off within Gmail for iOS’ settings. Instagram users will now be getting a dose of one of Facebook’s most popular photo features as they have announced the launch of their “Photos of You” feature.
Just like on Facebook, Instagram users will now be able to tag their friends or particular places within a photo, which can then be viewed in a new section simply called Photos of You. The section will be populated with images that have been tagged with your username, which can be done as soon as an image is taken as a new button will be available to allow the uploader to tag people and places within the image. We caught a leak of an iOS version of Google Now last month which was immediately pulled from the Internet, which lead us to believe it would show up sooner or later. Considering that leak took place last month, it’s safe to say today’s release of Google Now wasn’t exactly surprising, but it certainly is extremely welcoming.
Google Now won’t be made available in its own dedicated application like Google’s YouTube and Google+ dedicated apps. Instead, it’ll be included in the Google Search app in an update that’s being released today. The update will make Google Now completely available to iPhone and iPad owners and will bring nearly all of Google’s information cards from Google Now’s Android version. (more…)

Smart Pajamas Use Dots To Read Bedtime Stories On Your iOS, Android Devices
Posted in: Today's ChiliReading your child a bedtime story is an experience most parents probably enjoy more than their children do as it allows them to be creative in how they deliver the story to their child. Changing your voice to simulate what they believe the character would sound like is one way to be creative, but another, more tech-friendly method would be to put these Smart PJs on your child.
The Smart PJs have dots all over them, which are placed in a way where they’re scannable to pull up a bedtime story when you scan them. Parents would have to download Smart PJs’ respective application either on their iOS or Android device, and they can let their child choose which dot pattern they like the best to have its corresponding story read to them. The Smart PJs application also puts the words to all of the stories and information on animals on the screen, which can help their child learn to read the stories themselves.
Smart PJs are available in four different sizes for both boys and girls and only cost $25. We’re not sure how many stories the Smart PJs can make available, but we do know that it’s probably enough to keep your child entertained while being drifted off to sleep for a couple of years.

Chinese App Store Clone ‘KuaiYong’ Installs Pirated iOS Apps Without Jailbreaking
Posted in: Today's ChiliOne of the main reasons why anybody jailbreaks their iOS device is due to the fact the jailbreak community has come up with some amazing applications to help make the most of your device in ways Apple would most likely reject if they were ever attempted to be made available in the App Store. But not many people like the idea of jailbreaking, which is why an app store clone in China is making it possible for iOS users to download and install pirated OS apps without the need to jailbreak.
The service is called KuaiYong, has been around for nearly a year and is only accessible within China, which people speculate may be so they aren’t caught by Apple. Although it looks like KuaiYong may be working on making its service available internationally to English-speaking customers. The way the service works is by using bulk enterprise licensing to bypass Apple’s safeguards, essentially distributing the same exact app over and over again. (more…)

Left: iPhone 5 without a mount; Right: iPhone 5 with a mount
We know how hard it is for iOS owners to part with their 30-pin connector products as you probably thought your bedside radio would always stay with you. But now that you have an iPhone 5, it just sits there, collecting dust and telling the time accurately. But a new product from PhotoFast can make it easier for you to enjoy your accessories that only have a 30-pin connector.
The PhotoFast Lightning Mount combines Apple’s Lightning adapter along with a fully functional mount to provide a seamless integration into your 30-pin accessories as just having your Lightning adapter connected to it could lead to your iPhone 5 or iPod Touch flailing about with no support. The Lightning Mount also fits perfectly into a standard universal dock and will work with some of the most popular speakers systems from some notable manufactures like Bose, Panasonic, Sony, Pioneer, Altec Lansing, Yamaha and Logitech.
