“Bounce” Along To Apple’s Latest iPod TV Ad

Screen Shot 2012-10-10 at 10.11.53 PM

If iPods could dance, it would look a lot like this new commercial Apple has just posted to its website. The ad shows a plethora of colorful iPod touch, iPod nano, and iPod shuffles bouncing around.

In fact, the ad itself is called “Bounce.”

There’s plenty to be proud about with Apple’s latest generation iPods, especially the 5th gen touch with a 4-inch Retina display, Siri, and a more powerful A5 chipset. But in this ad, Apple’s chosen to play the color card, as the entirely new family of iPods now comes in a variety of color flavors.

Perhaps the next ads will focus on theiPod Nano‘s resurrected display or Siri’s presence on the all-new iPod touch.

For now, get down to Willy Moon’s “Yeah Yeah” and don’t forget to put a little bounce in your step.

Fifthgen iPod touch and nano now in stores and in the mail

If you’ve been waiting impatiently to get your hands on the latest cellular radio-less iOS device, we’ve got good news. The fifth gen iPod touch with its elongated screen and colorful backplate is available today in Apple stores across the country. And, if you preordered the slinky aluminum and glass media player, it should already be in the mail. The latest edition of the nano, which is becoming more and more like its larger sibling the touch every day, is also popping up on shelves. The seventh generation of the tiny player, complete with multi touch screen and 16GB of storage, is cropping in Apple stores for $149 starting today. Let us know in the comments if you decided to pick up either device.

Looper’s director wants you to listen to an iPod in the theatre

This is a cool idea. In order to encourage repeat in-theatre viewings of Looper (currently in theatres), director Rian Johnson has released a commentary track which is meant to be played simultaneously with the movie. In movie theaters, on your personal device. The next time you’re at the cineplex, the guy sitting next to you with huge headphones on might not be crazy after all. (more…)

Dude recreates firstgen iPod in the browser, won't put 1,000 songs in your pocket

Here’s a bit of web fun to liven up your weekend: a digital artist by the name of Pritesh Desai has recreated a fully functional first-generation iPod that you can play directly in your browser. In remembrance of Steve Jobs, Desai built the faux iPod using HTML5, CSS3, and a touch of jQuery. You can drag the click wheel around just like with the real deal, change the volume, hit play / pause and even skip tracks. Especially nice is the addition of Extras like the Clock and the Calendar. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to play any of your own tunes, but Desai had compiled a list of Creative Commons songs, so you can see how the player works. The next step is for someone to fill this up with hits of the early aughts (“Last Nite” by The Strokes, perhaps?) so you can truly travel back in time to the heydays of Windows XP and the Enron scandal.

Parrot Zikmu Solo reaches US in November, makes a tower of wireless sound yours for $999

Parrot Zikmu Solo reaches US in November, makes a tower of wireless sound yours for $999

Parrot has taken some time trotting out the Zikmu Solo speaker since we first saw it at CES, but those enamored with very vertical audio can rest easy now that the unit has a North American release schedule. Both Canada and the US can buy the Philippe Starck-crafted speaker in November, when it will cost $999 for Americans in its black and white guises (sorry, no red for now). While that’s a lot to pay for a 100W speaker, Parrot is counting on the unique acoustic design, a conventional iOS dock and a mix of Bluetooth, NFC and WiFi to tempt people away from the land of horizontal sound. It’s undoubtedly one of the easiest ways to make a speaker dock the focus of a room — and that’s part of the point, isn’t it?

Throwback first-ever iPod in a browser is too much fun

If you’re at work on this Friday afternoon and you want to do anything but, click on over to the Inventika Solutions website. They’ve got a nifty HTML5 site that plays songs with an identical interface to the first-ever iPod. It doesn’t have too many songs, but then again, the first iPod only had 5GB of storage. (more…)

Parrot Zikmu Solo keeps the gigantic mobile accessory trend hot

With speaker docks getting as giant as a coffin this year for devices galore, it’s no wonder that accessories like the Parrot Zikmu Solo are as living room-worthy as they are. What we’ve got with the Zikmu Solo is a tower-like speaker that works either wirelessly or connected to your iOS device – or any speaker-cord-capable device with 100W of power under its hood. This device works with stereo output, a single unit speaker, and three loudspeakers on the upper part – as described here in detail, of course.

First you’ve got Two HARP (High Aspect Ratio Panel) drivers that diffuse the sound between the left and/or right side of the unit. Then you’ve got one central BMR (Balanced Modal Radiator) driver to diffuse the sound to the back and lower front of the unit. Inside you’ve also got a proprietary algorithmic processor called Sound Flex, optimized to bring you a “pure and perfectly balanced musical image.”

This device connects via Bluetooth, Wi-fi, NFC, and has an integrated ethernet port to boot! You’ll be able to connect the speaker to essentially any audio source with an integrated line-in input for both analog and optical digital connections. You’ve got UPnP and DLNA protocols on your side here and the whole thing is able to act as an iPhone or iPod dock as well.

The dock does not (yet) offer a dock for the iPhone 5, but is able to work with the iPhone 4S, 4, and 3Gs. You’ll be able to work with the Parrot Audio Suite application for both Android and iOS devices to connect wirelessly and control everything from your iPad, Android tablet, Android smartphone, or iPhone, and the whole package contains just the basics – plus a few extras. For MSRP 999 USD you get the main speaker unit, an AC power cord, an optical Toslink adapter / 3.5-inch jack, remote control (with included battery), a quick start guide, and a collection of “universal dock adapters” for your different iPhones and iPods – 3Gs, 4, and 4S. This device will be out in November at a collection of in-store retailers – check it out!

Classic iPod in Your Browser: The Best Way to Waste Your Friday [IPod]

New iPod Touch release date set for late October

During the iPhone 5 launch a couple weeks ago, Apple announced an update to its iPod Touch lineup that would include the same 4-inch screen as the iPhone 5. However, we were only given an “October” release date, so we weren’t sure if we’d see them at the beginning of the month or more towards the end. Today, it’s said that Australian users are seeing a ship date of “3 weeks” on Apple‘s website.

The new iPod Nanos are also seeing the same release date as the iPod Touch as well. Frankly, we’re surprised that Apple is taking this long to release the new devices. In the past, it was the iPod Touch and iPod Nano that got released before the new iPhone usually, but this time it’s exactly the other way around.

The iPod Touch comes in six different colors and comes with a lot of new changes from the last-generation iPod Touch. The larger screen and the addition of Siri are two of the more obvious changes, but it now comes with the faster A5 processor and is thinner than ever with a 6.1mm thickness. The camera can now shoot full 1080p HD video and the device even comes with a “Loop” to attach a wrist strap to.

For what it’s worth, the American Apple website still states “October” as the ship date, but you can pre-order the new iPod Touch if you haven’t done so already. It comes in 32GB and 64GB flavors for $299 and $399, respectively. If you haven’t taken a look at our hands on of the new device, now is a great time to do so.

Edifier releases the Esiena and Bric Bluetooth speakers for iOS devices

Image

With the arrival of the iPhone 5 and its legacy-wrecking Lightning port, this holiday season is likely to be the last that heavily features the now-obsolete dock connector. Two products caught in the wrong turn of history are Edifier’s new pair of iOS device docks for home and on the go. If you need a “big” sound in a modest package, then the Esiena Bluetooth offers 3-inch full-range drivers and a class D digital amplifier — and it’s also packing Auxiliary, USB, SD card inputs and a digital FM radio. If you’re more the adventuring type, then the portable Bric Bluetooth offers 2.75-inch full range drivers and the same class D amplifier in addition to a traveling pouch to keep the hardware safe on your travels. The Esiena will set you back $300 and the Bric a slender $100, with both arriving in the US and Canada from today.
