LG Introduces New 34-Inch IPS Monitor

LG Introduces New 34 Inch IPS MonitorCES 2014 is set to be another time of exciting news as well as the unveiling of additional consumer electronics devices that will (hopefully) blow the world away, and the folks over at LG intend to make the most of it by announcing that they will roll out their all new 34-inch IPS 21:9 UltraWide (Model UM95) monitor. Of course, just in case you do not need such a large monitor for your use, there is also the 29” model to choose from. Needless to say, your eyes will definitely appreciate the stunning image clarity courtesy of the UltraWide QHD resolution (3440 x 1440) that is found on the display.

A larger monitor more often than not equals to improved productivity, sort of anyways. After all, you have more stuff to look at with a single glance, that you should be able to work more effectively, right? It is said that in South Korea, such monitors are marketed as the equivalent of two 4:3 monitors to boost “productivity”. The inclusion of Thunderbolt 2 connectivity in the UM95 would also go some way in making sure that users who use such technology are able to take advantage of it, supporting high-resolution displays and high-performance data devices simultaneously via a single, compact port. This means you can theoretically enjoy transfer speeds of up to 20Gbps, while viewing and editing original 4K video with a file backup running at the same time.

All in all, we have also seen such monitors make an appearance in one of LG’s more recent advertisements that poke some good natured fun at us men, touting that we are unable to multitask. [Press Release]

LG IPS 21:9 UltraWide All-In-One PC unveiled at IFA 2013

lg-ips-monitorThe larger, the better. That is more or less the mantra of many people. After all, just take a look at our surroundings – the rich do want ever larger mansions, not to mention bigger bank vaults to hoard ever increasing earthly treasure, while workers want bigger pay packets to bring home. Fast food restaurants always want you to upsize your meals for a dollar or two, but are all of those really necessary? However, when it comes to work and the well being of your health, perhaps “larger is better” is a mantra that is worth following where the desktop computer is concerned. LG might be on to something here with the unveiling of their LG IPS 21:9 UltraWide All-In-One PC (also known as model V960) at IFA 2013 in Berlin, Germany.

This is the latest addition that will further expand the cinematically proportioned display range. The IPS 21:9 UltraWide All-In-One PC is proud to be classified as “an advanced desktop” which is said to pack in enough punch to deliver all the advantages of a 21:9 monitor, without the added bulk of another computer chassis placed somewhere in your room. The V960 will be powered by Microsoft’s Windows 8 as the operating system of choice, hence offering a full-fledged PC experience that will be accompanied by a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M GPU for advanced graphics processing. After all, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, so that GeForce GT 640M GPU ought to be a relief for gamers and users who want high quality graphical performance on their machine.

Other features of the V960 include picture-in-picture (PIP) functionality, so that you can multitask – for instance, checking up on the latest stock prices while watching a TV channel simultaneously. Apart from that LG’s AIO PC will ship with a keyboard and mouse so that you can get started right out of the box. There is still no word on pricing or regional availability as at press time, but we do hope to hear more about those aspects soon.

Oppo’s 4.7-inch R819 arrives with svelte 7.3mm profile, stock Android option (updated)

    Image

Oppo has just announced the R819, a 4.7-inch smartphone that’s likely to have high appeal to lovers of stock Android. The Chinese firm will release the handset with its Oppo Color ROM, but users will also be able to install stock Android through a relatively simple sideloading procedure. Hardware wise, it’s also decently spec’d, considering that Oppo seems to have tried to cram as much as it could into the sleek 7.3mm thick (.29 inch), 110 gram (3.9 ounce) shell. You’ll get a quad-core MediaTek CPU, 720p IPS display, 1GB RAM, 16GB ROM, a Sony Exmor-equipped 8-megapixel f/2.0 rear camera with an LED flash, a 2,000mAh battery and dual-sim capability. There’s no word on availability or pricing yet, though unlike some China-based handset makers, Oppo’s devices often wind up in the US.

Update: As you probably saw in our hands-on, the Oppo R819 is indeed set to arrive at online retailers in September for $349 (269 euros).

LG ships retro TV with rotary dials

LG ships retro 32inch LCD with rotary dials, recalls the days before remotes

Do you miss walking over the TV to change the channel? We know LG does. It just launched a 32-inch LCD set, the 32LN630R, that resembles a ’70s tube TV down to the working channel and volume dials. Not that the company is foregoing modern luxuries, mind you — its 1080p, IPS-based display supports both USB-based storage and MHL video from mobile devices. The 32LN630R is available now in South Korea for 840,000 won ($754), but there are no immediate plans to sell the TV to nostalgic Americans.

LG launches TV set and allinone PC with 29inch 219 ultrawidescreen

Remember LG’s EA93, that eye-catching 29-inch 21:9 “ultrawidescreen” monitor we played with at IFA last year? Well, it’s just spawned a couple offspring. Today in Korea, the company launched a TV set and an all-in-one PC which use the same 29-inch IPS panel with the same 21:9 aspect ratio, 2,560 x 1,080-pixel (WQHD) resolution and 178-degree viewing angles.

LG’s new all-in-one PC boasts a standalone TV tuner with instant-on (no booting required) and simultaneous PC and TV operation (PiP and several split screen modes). Details are few, but we know it features an Intel Core i5 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GT640M GPU (3D capable) and HDMI / MHL inputs (to use the display as a monitor). The PC comes pre-loaded with an instant messaging app (and matching mobile version) which lets users watch television while chatting.

The TV set supports PiP and split screen, including a 16:9 plus 5:9 mode (HD broadcast plus connected smartphone), and offers a comprehensive set of inputs (DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI and MHL). Pricing is 1.49 to 2.29 million won ($1,315 to $2,021) for the PC (based on configuration) and 690,000 won ($609) for the TV.
