ViewSonic's new VX70SmhLED IPS monitors arriving this month, pricing starts at $159

Only a couple of months have passed since ViewSonic announced its new pair of wallet-friendly VA12 monitors as well as that larger, energy-efficient 27-inch VX2703mh-LED. Fast forward to today, and the company’s back with a trio of fresh VX70Smh-LED panels, including a lavish 27-incher in the VX2770Smh-LED, plus a couple of 22- and 23-inch monitors for those who prefer something a bit more conservative — all of which are equipped with IPS technology, a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution (30,000,000:1 MEGA Dynamic Contrast Ratio) and SRS Premium Sound. ViewSonic has said both the 23- and 27-inch VX70Smh-LEDs will be available “early October” for $189 and $319, respectively, while the smaller 22-inch VX2270Smh-LED is expected to hit shelves around December with a $159 price tag.

Pantech Vega R3 packs Snapdragon S4 Pro, 5.3-inch screen into one hand

Pantech Vega R3 packs S4 Pro, 53inch screen into one hand

If there’s one thing that defines the phablet, it’s not hand portability — what’s on the market usually demands something of a stretch. Pantech wants to keep our grip at least slightly in check through its imminent Vega R3. The Android phone’s 5.3-inch, IPS-based LCD isn’t what we’d call modest, but it’s framed by an extra-thin bezel that Pantech claims is still comfortable in one hand. The R3 will be powerful, no matter how you hold it. It touts the same quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro we just saw in the LG Optimus G along with 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera and a 2,600mAh battery that can top up 100 minutes. South Koreans can pick up the Vega R3 from one of their three major carriers on September 25th. Sadly, we’re not expecting an American variant of the design given an emphasis on cheaper and smaller Pantech models in the US.

Dell releases new S Series monitors with edge-to-edge glass, IPS panels

Dell releases new S Series monitors with edgetoedge glass, reasonable price tags

Dell’s built quite a reputation for delivering solid monitors at reasonable prices, and it’s now expanded its offerings in a fairly big way with no less than five new S Series models, some of which boast edge-to-edge glass and/or IPS panels. On the top end is the 27-inch S2740L, which has the most connectivity options of the lot (DVI, VGA, HDMI and a pair of USB ports) and, of course, the highest price tag at $400. From there, things drop to $300 with the 24-inch S2440L (the only non-IPS model of the lot), and go all the way down to $200 for the 21.5-inch S2240M — the three lower-end models ditch the edge-to-edge glass but still retain minimal bezels. Unlike some of the company’s higher-end UltraSharp models, though, all five monitors have a 16:9 aspect ratio instead of 16:10, and you’ll get a standard 1920 x 1080 resolution regardless of the size you choose. Complete specs for each can be found at the links below.

Huawei’s MediaPad 7 Lite gets detailed specs, shipping dates

Huawei's MediaPad 7 Lite gets detailed specs, shipping dates

When Huawei revealed its new MediaPad 7 Lite slate, it wasn’t generous with the details, but now we’ve got a few more to share with you. The final specifications are out, so we now know for sure that the ICS tab will arrive packing a 7-inch IPS display (1,024 x 600) supporting 1080p, a 1.2GHz Cortex A8 processor, 1GB RAM and 8 gigs of storage, expandable via microSD (up to the usual 32). To keep you connected, you’ve got Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi of the a/b/n varieties, or the option of sticking a SIM in it for HSPDA 3G speeds on the move. The cameras are nothing to shout about, but 3.2 megapixels on the back and 0.3 on the front will probably do for the odd Skype call or emergency picture. We can’t see how much later into August you can get, but the PR states shipping will begin then, to South Africa, China, Russia, the Philippines and Taiwan, and to Indonesia and Malaysia in September. Seven inches just not enough? Then how about its keyboard-endowed bigger brother?

Lenovo IdeaTab S2110 makes official debut at IFA 2012: a 10-inch hybrid Android 4.0 slate

Lenovo IdeaTab S2110 makes official debut at IFA 2012 a 10inch hybrid Android 40 slate

There may not be much mystery left surrounding the IdeaTab S2110, but Lenovo’s making it official at IFA anyhow. The hybrid slate, first shown off at this past CES as the IdeaTab S2, now has a new name, but aside from that not much has changed since we saw it creep onto the company’s site. The 10.1-inch convertible, outfitted with a 1280 x 800 IPS display capable of 420 nits of brightness, runs a skinned version of Android 4.0 atop Qualcomm’s dual-core 8060A CPU clocked at 1.5GHz and packs a dual 1.3-megapixel front facing / 5-megapixel rear camera setup, as well as support for WCDMA / EVDO, Bluetooth 4.0 and WiFi. It’ll be offered in two configurations — 16GB and 32GB — but alas, there’s no option for expansion via microSD. For users dead set on expanding that capacity, an optional keyboard dock will be made available that not only augments the S2110’s storage via full SD slot, but also extends battery life by an extra 10 hours. The tab’s already on sale, so if you’ve got $399 to burn for the base model, or $499 for the dock-enhanced model, head on over to the source below and get your credit card at the ready.

LG EA93 21:9 aspect ratio 29-inch LCD spotted on IFA show floor (eyes-on)

LG 29inch EA93 219 aspect ratio LCD spotted spotted on IFA show floor

Fancy a wickedly wide 21:9 aspect ratio LCD that’s more than a touch larger than what you’ll find on that unique Toshiba Ultrabook? It looks like LG’s got you covered, with its 29-inch EA93. We spotted a half dozen of the ultra-wide IPS displays during a preview of the show floor at IFA, and were able to grab a few frames. You need to see this LCD in person to get a feel for just how wide it really is — with a 29-inch diagonal panel that’s incredibly short and squat, you’ll be compromising quite a bit of desk real estate in order to add some horizontal pixels.

From booth materials, it seems that LG is promoting this product as a multitasking solution — the format is well-suited as a replacement for dual-monitor rigs, letting you view several windows at once without adjusting your eyes vertically. We already had a solid grasp on the EA93’s specs, which include a 2,560 x 1,080-pixel panel, a four-way split screen feature and plenty of inputs, including two HDMI ports, DVI Dual Link and DisplayPort, though the product placard also revealed USB 3.0 connectivity and 7-watt stereo speakers. Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but if you’re prepared to add such a device at any cost, we’d suggest clearing some desk space now — these are set to ship in November.
