LG has new IPS monitors for the masses

LG intends to maintain their edge over the rest of the competition by introducing new IPS monitors that are known as the IPS7 series, where these will come in 23″ and 27″ sizes. Apart from the display size, everything else underneath the hood remains the same, so it is just a matter of budget and need when balanced together. What does LG offer with the new IPS7 series? For starters, tehy will boast LG’s very own Cinema Screen Design that allows it to come with an impressively thin 1.2mm bezel, which will practically do away with any visual distraction while enabling one to enjoy greater viewing immersion thanks to its 178-degree viewing angle.

Not only that, other hardware specifications include 250 nits of brightness, a response time of 5ms, 1080p resolution, and a 16:9 aspect ratio which are sure to keep any movie buffs happy and smiling. As for the overall depth, it has been reduced to a mere 14.1mm. Forget about those cheap looking plastic buttons that you see in other consumer electronics devices – LG decided to take the high road by replacing those with capacitive touch controls for a sleeker look.

No idea on pricing though, but it will arrive in Asia first before making its way to the rest of the world. [Press Release]

LG has new IPS monitors in tow

LG is not a company that shies away from the limelight, considering how they have been working hard to make a name for themselves in the world of consumer electronics and have largely succeeded, although their line of smartphones do leave something to be desired. Well, today we will not touch on yet another Android-powered smartphone by LG, but rather, will take a look at new IPS monitors from the South Korean company that boasts of Cinema Screen design alongside MHL connectivity.

The IPS7 Series are said to deliver superb colors that are so close to real life, and when you couple that with a stylish design and smarter connectivity options, most folks would say that this is capable of delivering the ultimate entertainment experience which does not tax your eyes too much – although I am quite sure that your bank account is going to take quite a hit in the process. Let us learn more about what the new LG IPS monitors are able to deliver right after the jump.

First launching in the Asian markets of Korea and China (Hong Kong included), the IPS7 series will feature LG’s very own CINEMA SCREEN Design, offering a near invisible bezel design for an unobstructed entertainment experience and a sophisticated, modern appearance. Not only that, you get lifelike color consistency and representation across a wider viewing angle, while the Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) makes it a snap to hook up external devices such as smartphones to deliver an immersive viewing on a larger screen.

The bezel measures just 1.2mm thin, and the overall depth of LG’s IPS7 monitors has also gone to the fat house, experiencing a reduction to a mere 14.1mm. As for the streamlined metallic stand, it creates an aesthetically sharp profile while the cable management feature further enhances the visual appeal.

You can choose from 23″ or 27″ models, where either one come with 1080p resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio, 250 nits of brightness, and 5ms of response time. Any takers?

LG outs IPS7 Series monitors 23 or 27inch IPS, minimal bezel, MHL mobile link, 8bit 1080P

LG has announced a new series of IPS monitors, the 23- and 27-inch IPS7 series, with a mishmash of specs aimed at mobile, HD and professional users. Foregoing WQHD resolution in favor of plain jane 1920 x 1080, the panels feature a so-called Cinema Screen design with a 1.2mm (.025-inch) bezel, half-inch depth, a mobile high-definition (MHL) link, fast response times and color calibration software for professionals. If it’s trying to to tap the pro market, the monitors lack some features like dual-link 2560 x 1440 resolution and 10-bit, 1.07 billion color graphics like the Dell U2711 or HP ZR2740w, for instance — but then they could turn out to be considerably cheaper than those rivals. We’ll just have to wait to find out the pricing.

LG Optimus 4X HD review: runner-up to the quad-core throne

DNP LG Optimus 4X HD review runnerup to the quadcore throne

LG has an ongoing smartphone problem: despite a few valiant efforts (the G2x comes to mind) the company continues to live in the shadow of rival Samsung. Most of this malaise can be attributed to hit-and-miss hardware combined with lackluster software (we’re looking at you, Spectrum). Last February, at Mobile World Congress, LG spiced things up with an attractive collection of devices including the Optimus L7, Optimus Vu and Optimus 4X HD — the latter being one of the first quad-core handsets announced. Now, six months later, we live in a world where the global versions of HTC’s One X and Samsung’s Galaxy S III dominate the superphone market and share the quad-core crown. With me-too features like a Tegra 3 processor, 4.7-inch HD display, 8-megapixel camera and Ice Cream Sandwich on board, the Optimus 4X HD appears ready to play in the big leagues. Does it succeed or is it just a flash in the pan? Is it all style over substance or does it bring something unique and meaningful to the table? Hit the break for our full review.

Skytex announces Gemini and Protos: ICS tablets that sound like X-Men

Skytex announces Gemini and Protos ICS tablets that sound like XMen

Last time we saw Skytex, it was serving up a warm slice of Windows 7 on its tablets. Now, it’s back with a pair of Androids, one under each arm. The Skypad Protos ($279) is 9.7 inches of Ice Cream Sandwich, while the Skypad Gemini ($179) measures in at just 7. Both slates run on 1.2GHz Cortex A8 silicon, shacked-up with a Mali 400 GPU. Other internals include 8GB storage, and 1GB or RAM, HDMI and a microSD card slot for expansion (up to 32GB). The larger Protos has an IPS screen, and a pair of cameras (5- and 2-megapixels) while the smaller Gemini just has the one (2-megapixel). It’s not all about what’s inside those box these days, as both also come with 5GB of cloud storage, showing these slates know what’s on trend right now. With competition getting intense at the cheaper end of the scale, though, is there enough to get your credit card out when they start shipping this month?

Nexus 7 review: the best $200 tablet you can buy

DNP Nexus 7 review

In 2008, when the Eee PC was revolutionizing the computing world and driving every manufacturer to make cheaper and smaller laptops, Sony washed its hands of the whole thing. The “race to the bottom,” the company said, would profoundly impact the industry, killing profit margins and flooding the market with cheap, terrible machines. Sony was wrong, its stance lasting about a year before joining the competition with its own VAIO W.

Four years on we’re buying better laptops than ever before and, with the netbook class now more or less dead, that downward competition seems to have shifted to the tablet front. A flood of cheap, truly awful slates preceded Amazon’s Kindle Fire, the $200 tablet from a major brand that looks to have been the proper catalyst in plunging prices. The latest challenger to enter the competition is ASUS, partnering with Google to create the first Nexus tablet, a device that not only will amaze with its MSRP, but with its quality. It’s called the Nexus 7, it too is $200, and it’s better than Amazon’s offering in every way but one.
