NFL Game Rewind apps for iOS and Android

While inclusion of the “eye in the sky” All-22 game tape and condensed games the squeeze every play into a 30 minute football-fest are nice features for the NFL Game Rewind package, those looking to get their John Madden on can do so thanks to its apps for tablets. The telestrator feature is only mentioned in the notes for the iOS version so far, however the Android app shares in its ability stream the tape delayed games in HD, complete with stats and big play markers to jump straight to the key plays. While the apps themselves are free, you will need a paid subscription to the service at $34.99 to follow a single team, $39.99 for the entire league, and $69.99 for the Season Plus package that brings along the All-22 cam and telestrator features. Hit the source links for more info on the packages and exactly when the games are available for viewing, if you’re more of a Monday Morning QB than real-time NFL Red Zone / Sunday Ticket aficionado, they may work for you.

Bruce Willis Planning Legal Battle to Leave iTunes Library in His Will [Video]

Action movie legend Bruce Willis is apparently eyeing up a legal battle in order to guarantee that he can pass his massive iTunes library onto his children when he dies. More »

Bruce Willis reportedly livid over iTunes death rules

Bruce Willis may not be the most likely candidate for a war on Apple and digital media licensing, but the Die Hard star has apparently engaged the lawyers in order to preserve his iTunes library legacy. Willis was supposedly outraged to discover that, upon his death, the licenses to his music, video, ebook, and other media purchased through iTunes will not be passed on to his children, The Sun reports, and is exploring ways to work around the rules.

Unlike physical media, digital downloads are only licensed – in effect “borrowed” – from the store they were bought from, rather than purchased outright. Although the discrepancy is little known among users, the outcome is that an entire library of content cannot be legally accessed once the person who bought those rights to playback has died.

Willis is supposedly setting up a trust, in which his downloads will be held, so that they can be made available to his children after his death. That’s probably not something every regular user will do, though the somewhat vague promise that the actor is now “backing legal moves to increase the rights of downloaders” might at least draw extra attention to exactly what rights you have when you hit “Buy” in iTunes or other download stores.

Whether, as has been reported, Willis will actually “sue” Apple over the rules remains to be seen. Digital Rights Management and issues of licensing have caused numerous headaches as downloads gain favor, with rival cloud playback services being unable to store and stream each other’s tracks and videos because of limitations around sharing.

iPad mini and wifi iPods head for October iTunes event

This afternoon it would appear that not only has the name “iPad mini” been tipped once again, a couple new iPods have been updated as well. According to Asian sources speaking with Macotakara, the new iPad will have a 7.85-inch display and will indeed be called the “iPad mini.” A couple new iPods will be popping up at the same event as this iPad mini, each of them with the ability to connect to wireless internet so that they might connect with iTunes in the Cloud.

This next Apple event has been tipped as taking place in mid-October, this far enough away from the supposed September iPhone 5 event that it’ll make full use of the “second wave” effect. One wave of iPhone action, several weeks pass, and the fun starts all over again with so much iTunes in the Cloud action that you’ll be unable to contain your wallets contents at all whatsoever! This October event has taken place in the past at right around the same time, here coming in 2012 with a smaller size and price to make it a perfect iTunes media machine.

The iPod touch has had wi-fi connectivity for a while now, but a new one may be coming at this event with a new micro dock – the same 16-pin dock connection that the iPhone 5 has been tipped to have. There may well be a new iPod nano as well, here coming with its first connection to the web via its own wi-fi ability. With this, users will be able to use iTunes in the Cloud with great success.

Have a peek at the timeline below to see what else may be popping up in the next few months from Apple. We’re expecting a whole new mobile range, with the standard iPad also getting a small update. This update will also include the new mini dock connector.

iPhone 5 event tipped for split from iPad mini on September 12

The new iPhone (aka the iPhone 5) has been tipped several times by well-connected sources as having an announcement date of September 12 – today there’s a multi-sourced addition to that suggestion that says the event will not include the iPad mini. This next-generation size-reduced iPad device will instead be directed at an event in October, when Apple has held Music and iTunes-themed events in the past. As for the supposed Apple TV full-sized television set, that’s once again been lost to the rumor mill.

First you’ll want to check out the well thought out set of assumptions made by John Gruber of Daring Fireball, which say that a two-event release makes more sense than one. The first event, on September 12th indeed, there will be a new iPhone – a device which will then be released to the public on the 21st of September. Review units, he says, will also likely be seeded on the 12th of September at the event.

The second event would then be an iTunes event in the second week of October and would bring on several devices that are less fabulous all at once:

“An event where the iPad Air (cool, but just a smaller thinner cheaper iPad), new iPod Touch (cool, but just an iPhone without the phone), and maybe even new or at least updated iPod music players (eh) share the stage, tied together with the theme of consuming iTunes media content — that I can buy.” – Gruber

Then there’s another update coming from Jim Dalrymple of The Loop, a notoriously accurate source for Apple-related release information. Regarding the idea that there will be two events, the first having only “the new iPhone and iOS 6″, Dalrymple noted “Oh that Gruber is a smart fellow.” This essentially being a Bible-truth confirmation when it comes to the all-powerful tip-line that is well-connected Apple leaksters.

Have a peek at our [Apple portal] for more information on the upcoming set of devices that’ll be blowing the doors off your Apple-loving brain very, very soon, and let us know what you think of the next generation already in the mix!

Walmart selling $100 iTunes gift cards for $80

If you or someone you know spends a lot of time buying music, apps, movies, and other digital content via iTunes, Walmart has a serious deal for you. The retail giant is offering 20% off on digitally delivered iTunes gift cards. Specifically, you can purchase a $100 iTunes gift card for $80.

Anyone who purchases a lot of digital goods can see the value in a $20 discount off the gift card. When purchased, the electronic card is sent to the users via e-mail. The e-mail with the card can be sent to the buyer or as a gift to a secondary user. Each of the digital cards has a unique iTunes Store code allowing them to be redeemed for music, movies, TV shows, apps, and other content.

That content can be sent to your iPhone, iPad, iPod, or used on your computer via iTunes software. This still might sound a little too good to be true for some users since it’s basically giving you $20 free. PCMag reports that customers will likely receive their pin access e-mail for the digital gift card within a few minutes, but Walmart notes it can take up to 48 hours.

One person who took advantage of the Walmart gift card deal claims that he was still waiting for the e-mail 22 hours after purchase. The s buyer said that he typically gets other Walmart based iTunes card codes in under 30 minutes. Some users are reporting the code was received within 15 to 30 minutes, while others are claiming to be waiting after the 48-hour window Walmart cites.

Do You Buy Your Movies and TV Shows from iTunes or Amazon? [Chatroom]

I don’t know how I’ve lasted this long on the Internet without deciding to sell my credit card’s soul to either Amazon or iTunes for movie watching and tv show buying purposes but I think it’s come to the point where I should pick one and move on with it. So which should I choose? More »

Frank Zappa music catalog now available on iTunes, could be coming soon to Spotify and Rdio

Frank Zappa music catalog now available on iTunes, could be coming soon to Spotify and Rdio

Freak out (!), because another music legend’s starting to bite the iTunes pie. With the well-documented Beatles-on-iTunes saga well behind us, it’s time for the late Frank Zappa to become one of the most recent artists to join Cupertino’s media repertoire. This means that there’s now over 50 of Zappa’s albums up for your downloading / listening pleasure inside Apple’s renowned application — some of which have been remastered, and include the likes of Absolutely Free, Uncle Meat, Hot Rats, Burnt Weeny Sandwich and, not surprisingly, the best-selling Sheik Yerbouti. That’s not it, however, according to Digital Music News, Frank Zappa’s full set of jams could also be headed to streaming services (such as Rdio and Spotify) sometime around October of this year — though, at this point, nothing’s been set in stone just yet. Either way, the good news is you can find the hefty catalog on iTunes as we speak, all you’ve got to do’s give the source link below a quick tap.

Football fans score additional content in Sky Sports for iPad update

Football fans score additional content in Sky Sports for iPad update

The app devs over at Sky Sports are having a busy year, and after improving their iPad offering for the F1 season, they’re back with a “second screen” update for football (soccer) fans. Just in time for the start of the UK Premier League season, the new Football Match Centre adds a content bar alongside your chosen stream showing team and player info, in-depth stats of the match in progress and a hand-picked Twitter feed for related musings. You might think the devs deserve a break, but sadly there’s no time — next on the agenda is a similar update for the Champions League tournament, then they’re bringing the second screen to golf fans before the Ryder Cup starts next month.

Go Get Free iTunes Money at Walmart Right Now [Dealz]

Following in Best Buy’s illustrious footsteps, Walmart is currently offering digital $100 iTunes gift cards for $80. Which, for those less mathematically inclined, amounts to $20 of free money to spend on apps, books, movies, or season four of The Wire. The deal appears to be only valid on the Benjamin edition, but you’ll burn through that in no time. And the “digital” part means that it’s as easy as an email to process. More »
