No iTV or new Apple TV in 2012?

It is well known that Apple does not comment on rumors, but it was reported that an Apple executive allegedly denied an iTV rollout in the near future sometime last month. Well, you know how important it is to back up a story with facts, so here we are with whispers of a new report that also suggested the same thing. Bloomberg claimed that “a person familiar with [Apple’s] plans” shared on how negotiations with media companies and cable providers seem to run into stumbling blocks, where among them include “a tussle for control over the software that determines the screen interface.”

To put it in a nutshell, Apple does not see eye to eye with media providers concerning on how the actual user experience is like, which does seem to offer some spine to our August story concerning the denial of any iTV or Apple TV rollout for this year at least. Knowing Apple, they would most probably be loathe to lease their set-top box via cable providers, and will instead prefer to sell it directly to users. Patience will reveal the clouded future for sure.

Netflix coming to future Freesat satellite TV boxes

Netflix making good on those investment promises for its UK viewers, with the streaming service set to be included in a new set-top box coming tomorrow. According to The Telegraph, the new device will link straight into Netflix services. Freesat‘s satellite TV offering launched back in 2008, with both BBC and ITV behind the project, while the new set-top box is rumored to add on-demand downloads and the ability to view programs up to eight days since they first air — catching up to similar services from BT, Virgin and Sky. We’re likely to hear more tomorrow, but Freesat’s hoping it will be enough to make Brits reconsider those wallet-thumping Sky subscriptions.

Apple executive reportedly denies that the “iTV” will be launching in the near future

apple-itvThere have been plenty of Apple’s HDTV rumors floating about these days, with some suggesting that we will only see a release next year, while some optimistically believe it could be released sometime towards the end of 2012. In any case according to reports, Apple’s Vice President for internet services and software, Eddy Cue, had reportedly told an analyst that such a device from Apple is unlikely in the near future, with the main reason being that such a TV set would have to meet all of Apple’s standards regarding user experience and performance first.

It’s interesting to note that such a device was not denied, and the use of the term “near future” also carries the implication that not only such a device exists, it’s just that we won’t be seeing it anytime soon. Rumors of Apple’s HDTV started when Walter Isaacson released his biography on Apple’s late co-founder, Steve Jobs, where he quoted Jobs as reportedly saying that he had cracked the TV market. So far there have only been rumors of possible production and release dates, although no photos or components belonging to the alleged device has been seen.
