Video Shows Jailbroken iPad Triple Booting iOS 5, iOS 6, and iOS 7

iOS 7 is the biggest iOS update that Apple has ever released. Not only does the update dramatically overhaul the design of the user interface, but it has also brought about a change in the way apps are designed. There are also new features that the update has brought to the table, but unfortunately not everyone is enamored by its looks. (more…)

iOS 7.1 Untethered Jailbreak Shown Off On Video

Its no secret that it took a long time for iOS 7.0 to be jailbroken. The first untethered jailbreak for iOS 7.x was released by the evad3rs team, the exploit that their jailbreak used was patched by Apple in its latest firmware update, iOS 7.1. There is really no predicting when iOS 7.1 will be jailbroken, particularly for newer devices, but people still using legacy devices might be in luck. A developer has shown off iOS 7.1 untethered jailbreak on video, but it may not be compatible with all devices.

Asphaleia Jailbreak Tweak Lets You Use Touch ID To Protect Your Apps

Asphaleia Jailbreak Tweak Lets You Use Touch ID To Protect Your AppsOne of the features of the iPhone 5s would be its Touch ID sensor. This allows users to unlock their phone and make purchases in the iTunes App Store simply by scanning their fingerprint. However if one were to jailbreak their phone, they could use Touch ID for other purposes.

In the past we have seen how Touch ID on a jailbroken iPhone would allow for it to be used as Home button, and now thanks to a recent jailbreak tweak by the name of Asphaleia, you will be able to use Touch ID to help lock/unlock specific apps. (more…)

iOS 7.1 Beta 5 Closes More Jailbreak Exploits

iOS 7.1 Beta 5 Closes More Jailbreak ExploitsIt has been a little over a month since the Evad3rs team release their untethered Evasi0n iOS 7 jailbreak for iOS devices. Now the bad news is that if you were hoping to upgrade to iOS 7.1, you might want to hold off on doing so because according to reports, it looks like Apple is wasting no time in closing up the exploits used to jailbreak iOS 7. We guess this is to be expected, although there are times when Apple misses an exploit here and there that allows the team to continue jailbreaking the iOS platform even after updates.

Apple had reportedly closed off one critical exploit in iOS 7.1 beta 4, and now according to Evasi0n hacker, iH8sn0w, it seems that with the recent release of the latest iOS 7.1 beta 5, it closed an additional number of exploits that could have been used to make a future jailbreak. This is not to say that jailbreaking it would be impossible, but it would definitely make things a lot harder. Of course you can choose to keep your jailbreak by not updating to iOS 7.1, but given that iOS 7.1 is bringing about a host of major changes and some redesigns, chances are you might be tempted to update in order to experience these changes. There’s still no word on when iOS 7.1 will be released to the public, so for the sake of jailbreakers out there, here’s hoping the hackers will be able to find something new between now and then.

Untethered iOS 7.1 Jailbreak Might Not Be Possible

Untethered iOS 7.1 Jailbreak Might Not Be PossibleDecember was a great month for the jailbreak community. Last month, the first ever public iOS 7 untethered jailbreak was released. It was also compatible with all of Apple’s new mobile devices, such as the two new iPhones and the two new iPads. Few other iOS 7 compatible devices also supported the jailbreak. It was only a matter of time before Apple plugged the exploit used by evad3rs developers team to create this jailbreak, and the company might have done that with the latest beta of iOS 7.1, beta 4, which was seeded to developers yesterday. iPhone 5s Jailbreak Tweak Lets You Use Touch ID To Launch Apps

Apple’s Touch ID for the iPhone 5s was designed for security, although thanks to innovative developers, we’ve seen it used for other purposes, such as acting as a home button replacement. Now for those with a jailbroken iPhone 5s looking for an alternative use of Touch ID, you’re in luck as a couple of jailbreak tweaks will allow you to use Touch ID as a way to launch specific apps that you might not want random people to be able to access when they open your phone. These tweaks come in the form of AppLocker and BioProtect, both of which share similar functionalities in that they require the user to enter their fingerprint when attempting to open a specific app, say emails, or messages, or your photo gallery.

This is a great way for those who don’t really want to has a pass-coded lock screen, but want to have some protective measures installed for their privacy at the same time. Of course there are some concerns, such as where are the fingerprints being stored? With Apple’s own lock screen solution, the fingerprints are stored on a Secure Enclave of Apple’s A7 processor, meaning that no one should be able to read it.The developer of AppLock claims that the fingerprints are still secure and are stored in encrypted hashes that cannot be read or uploaded online, which hopefully is enough to assuage the fears of those concerned about their privacy and security.

Both AppLock and BioProtect can be found in Cydia and will require a jailbroken iPhone 5s, and given that these tweaks will rely on the Touch ID sensor, it’s safe to say that this will only work the iPhone 5s. In the meantime if you’d like to see the tweak in action, check out the video above which is a hands-on of the tweak put together by the folks at iDownloadBlog.

Apple TV 2 5.3 Untethered Jailbreak Released

Apple TV 2 5.3 Untethered Jailbreak Released

Often called a “hobby,” the Apple TV is actually quite a decent set-top box that has performed relatively well in the market. Its the company’s only TV offering despite mounting rumors of a full fledged HDTV set. Since the set-top box runs on a modified version of iOS, its firmware can be jailbroken as well. Thanks to the recent progress made by the jailbreak community, Apple TV 2 5.3 untethered jailbreak has finally be released. The third generation Apple TV still hasn’t been cracked.

The folks at FireCore have released a new version of Seas0nPass which can be used to jailbreak Apple TV 2 on 5.3 firmware. Apart from that, they have also released an updated version of aTV Flash, which basically opens up a whole new world on the Apple TV, it even includes a web browser. The Apple TV 6.0 update was released in fall 2013, the jailbreak is not compatible with this update which brought features like AirPlay from iCloud and iTunes Radio. The evad3rs developers team has been monumental in releasing the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak, they’re also working with @nitoTV on a jailbreak for Apple TV 6.0+ firmware. FireCore says that “encouraging progress” has been made, work still continues and it can’t be said for sure when a jailbreak for said firmware will finally be released.

iPhone 5s Jailbreak Tweak Lets You Use Touch ID As A Home Button

iPhone 5s Jailbreak Tweak Lets You Use Touch ID As A Home ButtonIf there’s one pet peeve that we’re sure many iOS users have about their device would be its home button. Considering that the home button needs to be pressed all the time in order to exit an app or switch between apps, it can wear out pretty fast, leaving some iOS users asking Apple for a soft key version. Granted you could always use the on-screen home button but that’s not a very elegant solution, but if you don’t mind jailbreaking your brand new iPhone 5s, here’s a tweak you’ll definitely want to check out.

The iOS 7 jailbreak was released not too long ago and if you have jailbroken your iPhone 5s, you can head on over to the Cydia Store and download a tweak called Virtual Home, which basically transforms your Touch ID sensor into a home button, allowing you to activate the home button without actually having to press it, thus extending its life by a bit. This is thanks to the Touch ID sensor’s metallic ring which is able to detect the presence of a finger. Since we don’t own a jailbroken iOS device, we can’t speak to its functionality, but in theory this sounds like a fantastic idea and if you want to check it out, Virtual Home is a free download and will only be compatible with the iPhone 5s (naturally).
