FullForce Jailbreak Tweak Stretches Out iPhone 4/4S Apps For The iPhone 5

FullForce Jailbreak Tweak Stretches Out iPhone 4/4S Apps For The iPhone 5While the larger display on the iPhone 5 is a welcome change, one of the problems it has created is that there are apps out there who have yet to be updated to fit the iPhone 5’s 4” display. Apple tried to remedy this by installing black bars at the top and bottom of non-optimized apps, which on the black iPhone 5 kind of gives it the illusion that it’s still full screen. On the white iPhone 5 however, this doesn’t work out so well. Now the good news is that if you have jailbroken your iPhone 5, you might be interested in this tweak called FullForce which is developed by famed iOS developer, Ryan Petrich.

In case the screenshot above hasn’t clued you in, what FullForce does is that it takes apps that have yet to be optimized for the iPhone 5, and stretches them to fill up the display. According to the app, upon installation, launching apps that aren’t optimized for the iPhone 5’s display will prompt you and ask if you would like to enable FullForce to help stretch it out. This can be enabled and disabled as we’re sure that there are some apps that don’t look good when stretched, but if you want to check it out, the tweak can be downloaded via the BigBoss repository for $0.99. If you have installed it let us know in the comments below on how it is treating you!

iOS jailbreak evasi0n 1.1 rolls out, offers bug fixes

On January 30, the iOS 6.0 – 6.1 jailbreak’s name – evasi0n – was announced, with a tentative release date for the first week of February. A few days later on February 4, the jailbreak was rolled out, and 24 hours later it resulted in a massive traffic spike, causing Cydia to hiccup. Now one of the individuals behind the app known as @planetbeing has announced that version 1.1 is available.

Capture_d_e_cran_2013_02_06_a_11.51.40

Version 1.1 contains the latest round of fixes for issues users have been reporting, including issues with rebooting and the weather app. According to @planetbeing, users may have to clear their Web browser’s cache in order to see the update. Those who have already jailbroken their devices won’t need this release, and can instead find patches for the problem via Cydia.

In addition, in response to requests, traffic data on users downloading the jailbreak have been provided, which you can see in the image above. China comes in at the top with just under 3 million visitors (2,991,211), while the United States comes in second at 2,508,269. The numbers drop off quite significantly from there, with France coming in third at only 860,355.

The jailbreak can be downloaded from its official website evasi0n.com, where it is avaiable for Windows (XP and higher), OS X (10.6 and higher), and Linux. The entire process takes only a few minutes, and requires only a USB data cable. The jailbreak works on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch running iOS 6.0 to 6.1.

iOS 6.1 jailbreak sees massive numbers, Cydia usage spikes

Yesterday, the iOS 6.1 jailbreak officially released to the public, and it essentially was a scramble for millions of iOS 6 users, similar to how someone announces there’s free food in the break room, and everyone dashes in to get their share. It turns out that the release saw a huge wave of users join in on the jailbreaking fun, and even Cydia became overloaded, resulting in errors that left users without tweaks for now.

cydia

Developer pod2g posted up some traffic statistics of evasi0n.com, the website hosting the iOS 6 jailbreak, and the numbers are staggering. As of earlier today, the website has seen almost three million unique visitors, with page views exceeding 17.3 million. These figures don’t even include yesterday’s or today’s statistics, which we guarantee are even more staggering.

Of course, after jailbreaking, users pretty much had no where to go since Cydia was slowing down due to the surge of users downloading various tweaks. Many users would get errors in the app and weren’t able to browse or download tweaks. Jay Freeman, the man behind Cydia, says that he saw a peak of 14,000 hits per second, which is definitely unfathomable.

However, it’ll only be a matter of time before order comes to chaos, so if you’re still trying to get into the Cydia store, you’ll have to be patient. Of course, no one knows exactly when things will start to settle down, but we’re guessing that within the next few days when the initial rush dies down, you’ll be able to dive in finally.

Radio Buttons Found On Jailbroken iPad Corroborates iTunes Streaming Service Rumor

Radio Buttons Found On Jailbroken iPad Corroborates iTunes Streaming Service RumorIt has long been rumored that Apple might be working on a streaming service for iTunes along the lines of Pandora, but Apple being Apple has kept mum over it. Then again it could just be a groundless rumor for all we know, but the folks at 9to5 Mac have spotted several new “Radio Buy” buttons which was revealed in jailbroken iPads, and interestingly not on iPhones. Considering that the iPad Music app does not have the Radio functionality, it is being speculated that this could be indeed the long rumored streaming service that Apple might be introducing to compete with the likes of Pandora and Spotify.

Back in 2012 it was even “confirmed” by Bloomberg that such a service does exist, and that Apple’s negotiations with the record labels were going well and that such a service could be launched sometime later this year. Assuming these rumors are true, it is unclear as to when exactly this service will launch, but with Apple typically holding a WWDC event in the middle of the year, it might be announced then. Either way we’ll keep our eyes peeled, but what do you guys think? Will you be interested in an iTunes streaming service, or would you rather stick with Pandora or Spotify?
