Japan Warns Citizens Of Impending Missile Strikes Via Text Messages

Japan Warns Citizens Of Impending Missile Strikes Via Text MessagesIn the past we have seen how governments have relied on text messages to warn its citizens about impending danger, like a natural disaster for example. Well over in Japan it seems that text messages can also be used to warn its citizens of incoming missile strikes.

Before you get too worried, no there isn’t a war happening in Japan right now, but we guess it’s better to have a system in place in the event that something like that should ever happen, right? (more…)

    Pasta Pops: Spaghetti-Flavored Popsicles

If there’s one place where spaghetti-flavored popsicles would exist, then it would be Japan. True enough, frozen treats that are packaged and sold as being spaghetti-flavored are available in the land of the rising sun.

To the adventurous, this is just another unique treat to try. For others, it’s something to avoid at all costs.

Icy tomatoes and bits of meat don’t exactly sound like a very delectable frozen treat. However, while the image above of the spaghetti popsicles have made the rounds on the Internet, its actual taste hasn’t been confirmed yet. It could be that it’s packaged as spaghetti popsicles in the sense that it’s the color of tomato sauce when it’s mushed with the pasta, though I prefer to assume that it’s made from actual spaghetti and meatballs.

Gari-Gari Kun, the company that makes these popsicles, also make Corn Pottage and Rice Cakes with Bean Paste-flavored popsicles.

Z-MACHINES Robot Band: Rage with the Machines

This is what 80′s rockers would have looked like if they were robots. This robotic band goes by the name Z-MACHINES. It sounds like a human band if you close your eyes, but if they are open you know that they are robots, ready to kill us after the show.

The bot called March bangs multi-colored cables in time to the music. Behind him, the drummer Ashura has 22 arms and is playing four times faster than a human. Cosmo is the keyboardist with green lasers hitting each key. The guitarist has 78 fingers, and can shred way faster than you can:

This robo-band was created by engineers at the University of Tokyo and uses around 300 kilowatts of electricity. They are a big hit in Japan since they made their stage debut at a “Future Party” in Tokyo last year.

It’s all fun and games until no one returns from their concerts.

Mario Kart Race Happens In Tokyo

Mario Kart Race Happens In TokyoWe have seen Mario and Luigi get around in Tokyo in the past, but that might just be a preview of things to come. Surely we have not seen a full blown Mario Kart race on the streets of Tokyo, right? Surely observers would have heard of Rémi Gaillard before, the audacious Frenchman of YouTube fame who is the brainchild behind many an illegal street Mario Kart antic, is also familiar with having the authorities chase him down. Japanese Twitter users have managed to capture Mario and friends driving around Shibuya, which means a real-life Mario Kart scenario has unfolded in the business of Tokyo itself.

Japan To Get New Wii U Bundle

Japan To Get New Wii U BundleWhat you see above happens to hail from Nintendo of Japan’s official site, where it has listed the new console pack at the ¥30,000 price point (which you can roughly convert to $300), and is touted for a March 27th release. Apparently, this particular console pack does seem to come with a 32GB Wii U console in addition to a GamePad, passes for Wii Sports Club events Tennis, Bowling and Golf, in addition to a WiiMote controller and a wrist strap. Has Nintendo actually replaced the standard premium pack with this particular one?

SoftBank’s CEO Reveals How He Brought The iPhone To Japan

SoftBanks CEO Reveals How He Brought The iPhone To JapanThe iPhone is probably one of the more desired smartphones in the world at the moment, and despite what its critics and detractors have to say about it, they have to admit that it is true to a certain level. What this also means is that carriers are more than happy, for the most part, to offer the phone on their network.

However getting the iPhone onto a network isn’t as simple as placing an order with Apple. In fact based on what we have heard in the past from carriers, usually this means buying a certain amount of phones from Apple as well as agreeing to some of Apple’s demands, like no installing of carrier bloatware on the iPhone. Mocoro Rolling Mop Ball Gathers no Moss, Only Dust Bunnies

It seems I can’t go more than a couple of days without finding another wacky Japanese gadget that seems to solve no real problem. Here’s another crazy product from the island nation. This robotic ball that works like a rolling dust mop.

    mocoro dust mop 620x410magnify

While most of us would resort to using a vacuum cleaner or maybe a Swiffer to perform the task of sweeping up dust bunnies, the folks who designed the Mocoro rolling mop ball opted for something decidedly more whimsical.

Just release the Mocoro on your hardwood, tile or vinyl floors, and it’ll roll around collecting dust for about 15 minutes. Once it’s done, it’ll sing a little song to let you know its work is complete. It seems like a great idea until you realize that you have to wash it off between cleanings. The point is moot though, as your dog will probably use it as a chew toy before long anyhow.

Normally available only in Japan for ¥3,980 (~$40 USD), the folks over at White Rabbit Express should be able to help you get your hands on one.

Bake Me off a Piece of this KitKat Cake

Japan gets all the cool stuff. Take KitKats, for instance. In Japan they have introduced all kinds of flavors in the past – like blueberry cheesecake, soybean, red chilli, wasabi and more. And Nestle is not through innovating yet. Now they have introduced a KitKat that you have to bake in the oven.

This new KitKat treat really takes the cake. It sounds pretty awesome. The top layer of the pudding flavored mini KitKat melts when heated and fuses with the wafer-biscuit giving it a dark brown texture and hopefully a great taste. These cakes are slated to hit Japan’s KitKat cafe on March 24th and will be sold for a ¥500 (~$5 USD).

Pachi Pachi Clappy is the Sound of One Hand Clapping

Oh, Japan. It’s been at least a few weeks before you came out with a completely silly gadget that we don’t really need, but we do really want. What we have here is the Pachi Pachi Clappy, which I was ready to order solely on the basis of its name. But for those of you more discriminating buyers, read on…

    pachi pachi clappy 1magnify

Apparently, clapping isn’t just used for applause in Japan – it’s something people do before meals and even when praying. But how can you clap when you’ve got your other hand busy holding a cup of Mountain Dew flavored Cheetos? Clearly, you need a gizmo for that, and Pachi Pachi Clappy has you covered. It goes without explanation what it does, but watch this video anyhow:

Say, that sure sounded a lot like the music from Sugar Rush in Wreck it Ralph. While you contemplate that, have some more Pachi Pachi Clappy:

You can get your hand on your very own Pachi Pachi Clappy over at Japan Trend Shop for $27(USD).
