Sony Xperia M Gets Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Update

Sony Xperia M Gets Android 4.3 Jelly Bean UpdateIt is nice to see some of the older mid-range handsets get a fair amount of attention from the manufacturer in terms of its operating system version. Take the Sony Xperia M for example – it was first introduced to the world in 2013 with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow, and this time around we have received word that it has just been updated so that it will wear the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean proudly.

Android 4.3 Update For Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Rolls Out

Android 4.3 Update For Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Rolls Out It has not been smooth sailing exactly for Samsung when it comes to the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean updates for the Samsung Galaxy S3 as well as Galaxy S4 as we have reported on their respective situations. Good news then, for those who happen to own the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, as the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update is now officially available for the non-LTE version as well as the LTE-enabled model of the phablet.

It has also been touted that this particular update is a whole lot more stable compared to the rather cranky Android 4.3 update for the Galaxy S3, which should bring a smile to your face. Do bear in mind that this particular update will roll out in stages, so fret not if you do not receive it immediately. For those who want to get the latest update, you will be able to make use of Samsung Kies on the PC, or to check out the updates on the Galaxy Note 2 directly via the About section of the Settings menu.

Among the new changes include support for the Galaxy Gear smartwatch, TRIM support, OpenGL 3.0 Support, ANT+ Support, the implementation of Samsung KNOX as well as a pre-loaded version of Samsung Wallet, amongst numerous others.

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Receives Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Firmware Update

Sony Xperia Z1 And Xperia Z Ultra Receives Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Firmware UpdateIf there is one major advantage underneath the hood of modern day smartphones, I would like to say that it is this – the fact that one is able to introduce firmware updates into the mix to, in essence, enhance or prolong the lifespan of the handset in the market is a good thing. The recently reviewed Sony Xperia Z1 as well as the larger sized Xperia Z Ultra have been said to be on the receiving end of the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update, where this update would introduce some improvements in the display as well as helping make the battery last a whole lot longer.

In the Sony Xperia Z1, the camera algorithm has already been tweaked to deliver better all-round performance. Not only that, it has refined Sony’s Smart Social Camera platform in order for Xperia Camera apps to run in a whole lot more smoothly (in particular Burst Mode, Superior Auto, AR Effect and Sweep Panorama), while the Xperia Z Ultra features optimized touchscreen sensitivity that would cater for both finger gestures and writing, “sketching” with pencils, metal pens and selected styluses.

In terms of improvements made to both devices, their respective displays have been re-calibrated so that the viewing experience remains bright and bold, in addition to a better battery economy for a superior battery life. There is also a streamlined Exchange connection for faster email synchronization, display and download. So far, we have not heard reports of any of the smartphones crashing after installing the firmware update, so it should be all systems go if you own either one of them! [Press Release]

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD Upgrade From Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean Reconsidered

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD Upgrade From Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean ReconsideredIt was just yesterday when we brought you word that the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD does seem destined to have its operating system version remain on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for all eternity, as there does not seem to be a newer operating system update coming to this particular smartphone from Motorola. Which was a bummer, really, as the smartphone itself is not exactly something that you would deem to be obsolete anytime soon, as it has not even been out for more than two years plus already.

Well, we are glad to announce that there is always hope in all situations, even though that some of them might seem to be hopeless in the first place. Case in point, we have received word from Motorola that the DROID RAZR MAXX HD might still be considered to get a newer operating system version in the future, as the status of the handset has changed from “The device will remain on Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean)” to “Stay tuned for an upgrade decision.” We are not quite sure whether this was due to the uproar that arose by owners of the DROID RAZR MAXX HD, or is it because of a genuine mistake on Motorola’s part earlier on in putting up the wrong status. Either way, all’s well that ends well – or so it seems, at the moment, for the DROID RAZR MAXX HD.

Dead Rising 3 Banned In Germany

Dead Rising 3 Banned In GermanyMicrosoft has a bevy of titles that they have already lined up for the roll out of its Xbox One console, but folks who happen to reside in Germany will have to make do without Dead Rising 3. There is a good reason behind that of course, as Germany’s BPjM (Bundeprüfstelle für jugendgefährende Medien), which is better known as the Federal Department for Media Harmful to Young Persons which has banned the sale of Capcom’s Dead Rising 3.

It is definitely not a huge shock to the ears of gamers in that part of the world, since the previous two titles in the Dead Rising series also “suffered” from a similar decision in Germany. Microsoft is no doubt disappointed with this particular decision, but they should have gotten used to that by now. After all, the success of the Xbox One in Germany certainly should not hinge on just the sales figures of one particular title, right? In a nutshell, the BPjM panel normally lays the banhammer down on both console and PC games that they feel would promote violence against humans or other kinds of human-like characters, zombies included.

Other major games that had undergone the banhammer treatment include Left 4 Dead 2 and Scarface: The World is Yours. A reversal of such situations is not impossible, however, so keep your fingers crossed if you’re living in Germany!

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD Looks To Remain Stuck In Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean For Good

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD Looks To Remain Stuck In Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean For GoodIf you happen to be in possession of the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD as your regular smartphone of choice, then you might have been looking forward to at least the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system update. Unfortunately, much to your disappointment, it does not seem as though that is ever going to happen as the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD looks set to remain stuck on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean – for good. This is not quite what most owners of the smartphone would have liked to hear, especially since it launched with Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich and was given the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean earlier this year in March.

Of course, when it comes to the Motorola DROID RAZR HD, hope still springs eternal, at least for the moment. Motorola has yet to make a firm decision just yet as compared to the Motorola RAZR MAXX HD, which is rather strange since both models more or less carry the same hardware specifications with them. The DROID RAZR MAXX itself comes with a rather beefy 3,000mAh battery as well as 32GB of internal memory, compared to the 16GB of internal memory that is found on the DROID RAZR HD that does come with a 2,530mAh battery. Ah well, it looks as though if you want to make the jump to anything newer than Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean for the DROID RAZR MAXX HD, you will have to look to the homebrew community to get the job done.

Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia SP, To Receive Android 4.4 KitKat (Rumor)

Sony Xperia Z1, Xperia SP, To Receive Android 4.4 KitKat (Rumor)When it comes to owning a Nexus-branded device, one of the best things about it would be the introduction of a new operating system update each time it hits the market. Well, without a doubt we will see Android 4.4 KitKat arrive with the LG Nexus 5, but here we are with word that the Android 4.3 operating system update will most likely arrive on the Xperia Z1 smartphone this coming November, as the latest version of Android will arrive on that month as well. As of today, we do know that the Xperia Z1 is running on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which means it would make plenty of sense for this rumor to actually take root.

According to a leaked document from French mobile carrier Free, it seems that the Xperia SP too, will be on the receiving end of an Android operating system update – in fact, it will also pick up Android 4. Jelly Bean along the way sometime this coming December, as other smartphones from Sony, too, are tipped to receive this particular operating system update afterwards. Right now, the Xperia SP still remains “stuck” on Android 4.1, so it would be a classic version jump in this case. Can you wait for it to arrive?

Jelly Bean Takes More Than 40% Of The Android Cake Now

Jelly Bean Takes More Than 40% Of The Android Cake NowIt is well worth the effort to pay attention to the number of users who have jumped aboard the Jelly Bean bandwagon, and by this, I mean the combined efforts of Android 4.1, 4.2 and 4.3, just like how we lump Android 2.3.3 all the way to Android 2.3.7 under the Gingerbread moniker. In fact, the latest figures from the Android Dashboard do point out that the base version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean already takes 34% of the active devices cake, and when you combine it with — singlehandedly surpassing the old guard’s 33 percent share of the market. When combined with the rest of the Jelly Bean “team” (meaning Android 4.2 and above), then Android Jelly Bean comes up tops with a 40.5% majority.

Other versions of Android, including Ice Cream Sandwich (v4.0.3 through 4.0.4), Froyo (v2.2), and Eclair (v2.1) and all took some hits, with Honeycomb (v3.2) and Donut (v1.6) holding steady with their 0.1% market share. It would be interesting to trace down whoever else is left with Android devices running on Donut, perhaps it is time to consider an upgrade to a newer device?
