Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE to come with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow?

While the Samsung Galaxy S3 has yet to receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update even though said update is already in the works, there are whispers going around that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE variant will in fact, ship with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the most recent version of Google’s mobile operating system. Bear in mind that there has been no official confirmation concerning its status just yet, but there are other reports making their rounds on the Internet concerning the rollout of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets, regardless of whether they are carrier-branded or international versions.

According to the good people over at Android Central, they published what they claim is a Galaxy S3 LTE with 2GB RAM and Samsung’s quad-core Exynos processor running underneath the hood. CNET Asia did share some word on the LTE-enabled version of the Galaxy S3 that it might make its way to Singapore at the end of this month, retailing for $801.90 as an unlocked device, which is allegedly a similar unit as the South Korean bound model.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update coming to HTC One X this October?

The HTC One X is still running on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich just in case you were wondering, although there are unofficial Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROMs released for it. For those who prefer to have everything come from the source so that the risk of crashing your smartphone is minimized, then whispers of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update coming your way sometime in October would definitely carve a smile on your face. No idea on just how trustworthy this particular rumor is considering how majority of the operating system updates from HTC fail to make it on time, but one can always hope and keep their fingers crossed, can’t they?

It is said that the new Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will be accompanied by HTC Sense 4.5. In all probability that this particular rumor pans out to be true, it will most likely arrive for the international version first, before making its way across to LTE carriers including AT&T. What do you think, will the HTC One X be sweetened with Jelly Bean next month?

Google Now servers down, restored later in the day

It seems that the Google Now servers were knocked out of commission for a while today, although things are back to normal even as you read this. There was initial confusion for those who were using devices that ran on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, as it affected the main Gmail account as well, meaning you are unable to hook up to Google Now to boot. During the downtime, it seemed that Google accounts which were not hooked up to Google Now in any way were not affected (which is only natural). I guess owners of the Nexus 7 or Galaxy Nexus were affected for a while, in addition to others who already have an unofficial Jelly Bean ROM up and running on your respective device. Were you one of those who were affected for a while, and did your world come to a grinding stop when you could not access Google Now? Yeah, I thought so, too. I suppose that this is the time where a game on your device will keep you occupied without worrying about Google Now downtimes…

Again, we must stress that this particular Jelly Bean Test is meant for the South Korean version of the Galaxy S3 only, try it on other Galaxy S3 models and it will not work.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean factory image for Nexus S and Nexus S 4G released

Needless to say, it would be prudent to stash away the factory image in a safe place, as you can never quite tell just when you need it. The Google Developers page has more information on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean factory image if you are interested to know more.

Android Jelly Bean usage grows 1500% over two months

Google released the latest edition of its mobile operating system, Android, called ‘Jelly Bean’ about two months ago. Since then, Jelly Bean has been reaching out to more and more Android devices. While Gingerbread still holds the greatest share in the Android market, Jelly Bean is fast expanding its reach.

This is manifest in a new research released by the ad network Chitika. The statistics divulged as a result of this research are based on the mobile ad impressions gathered from its network. According to this research, the overall share of Jelly Bean was a mere 0.87% by the end of July. However, this nearly doubled to 1.47% within the next one month. (more…)

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for Samsung Galaxy S3 arrives this October, says Samsung Denmark

There has been plenty of speculation about the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 until now, and here is another snippet that might have you smile. Samsung Denmark’s Facebook page listed that the official Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) will be making its way to smartphones this coming October, which is a month away, while the Samsung Galaxy S2 (GT-I9100) will also not miss out on the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean boat, although owners of the Galaxy S2 will have to exercise patience for one more month and wait until November.

Guess October is better than nothing, and from the Samsung Denmark page, you can also check out other devices such as the older Galaxy S and the Galaxy Tab range being on the receiving end of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as well. What do you think of the October release window? Surely the adage of “better late than never” comes into mind, and I guess there is no harm in holding out for just a few more weeks.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update loose release window mentioned

So you have the latest and greatest Android-powered smartphone from Samsung, the Samsung Galaxy S3, and yet did end up scratching your head as to why the device came with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich and had yet to make the jump to the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. This anticipation of a new operating system update has been looked forward to for weeks by many folks now, with leaks making many an appearance over the weeks before. While we are left to keep on guessing, it seems that Samsung has stepped forward to reveal that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update window has been narrowed down to sometime in October.

No promises though, but it does seem to jive considering the UK’s first 4G network recent announcement as well as plans to roll out a new variant of the Samsung Galaxy S3 to support it – with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in tow, no doubt about it. I guess in this case, there really isn’t much one can do about it other than sit back and wait. Patience is, after all, a virtue, don’t you think so?

Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and S Advance jumps straight to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean?

It seems that a Bulgarian did call the local Samsung chapter and enquired whether the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and S Advance smartphones would be on the receiving end of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich anytime soon, and the answer that he received was definitely not an orthodox one. In fact, he was told that there was no Ice Cream Sandwich update coming, but wait for it; there will be a jump to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean right away, meaning the Ice Cream Sandwich goodness will be bypassed.

Do you think that this particular claim holds any water, or is it just a miscommunication over at Samsung Bulgaria? Granted, of all places, Bulgaria is not on most people’s radars when it comes to discovering new information about ROM updates, but I guess that stranger things have happened. We will still keep a keen eye out on the global availability of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean from Samsung for the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 and S Advance, so do check back with us from time to time.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Verizon Galaxy Nexus “soon”

“Soon” is a relative word, and if you ask owners of the Galaxy Nexus who are subscribed to Verizon Wireless, they will tell you that “soon” cannot come fast enough. Well, the pre-release version of Jelly Bean for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus was spotted at the end of last month, and even Sprint’s Galaxy Nexus had already started to enjoy Android 4.1 Jelly Bean goodness, so where has all the love for Verizon’s Galaxy Nexus gone to?

A Galaxy Nexus owner who figured out that there is nothing quite like a persistent spirit decided to bang on Verizon’s door non-stop, and along the way, might have uncovered possible internal insights concerning the Jelly Bean update process. It seemed that Verizon implied Samsung to be the party at fault for the Galaxy Nexus’ non-Jelly Bean status to date. Apart from that, an internal Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean update release date could very well be on the horizon, so I guess that all we can do now is sit down, hang tight and wait. Patience is, after all, a virtue, isn’t it?
