Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean test firmware for Samsung Galaxy S3 revealed

If you happen to own the Samsung Galaxy S3 and love tinkering with its firmware, then might I interest you in the fact that Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean test firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S3 has leaked out? The latest version, according to SamMobile, is known as I9300XXDLI5, and according to them, this is the most stable leak to date. I tend to tread more carefully with superlatives these days considering how it is easy to put a spin on everything and anything online, so anyone who thinks otherwise are more than welcome to share your difference in opinion with SamMobile.

Word has it that the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean test firmware (I9300XXDLI5) has more or less resolved just about all of the issues that were inherited from the previous test builds. It is described as “near perfect”, making us look forward in anticipation that Samsung themselves will most probably introduce the official Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3 in the near future. Are you looking at a release sometime next week?

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean leak for Galaxy Note 10.1 and Galaxy Tab 2 7.0

Jelly BeanSouth Korean consumer electronics giant Samsung has recently confirmed that the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 10.1 and more recently, the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 as well, has been leaked. Obviously, whatever leaked firmware that you find out there floating on the Internet should be approached with extreme caution, as though it was one of those Alien-like eggs that hold Facehuggers inside. The reason is simple – these are not official, and neither are they ready for prime time action, so to perform the install and expect it to work as smooth as butter is akin to crossing your fingers for the Middle East to sort itself out without a single bullet fired.

If your curiosity has gotten the better of you and you want to risk the proverbial cat’s death, then be prepared to deal with Odin and performing some flashes from recovery. Only for those with the relevant intestinal fortitude, this!

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for Sprint Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S 4G owners?

Check out the screenshot above, and pinch yourself if you happen to own either a Galaxy Nexus or a Nexus S 4G from Sprint. Whatever the leaked screenshot depicts, it does seem to indicate that Sprint will be offering the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update (at long last) this coming September 6th for both smartphones, which is just a few more hours away. Hopefully the leaked screenshot is an accurate indicator of things to come, and not just something conjured from an image editing program from someone else’s desktop.

Assuming this is true, both the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus S 4G will be considered to be the first CDMA smartphones in the US that will run on sweet, sweet Jelly Bean. Are you all stoked up for a possible mobile operating system update? If you have answered in the affirmative, you might want to make the relevant preparations now and start performing a backup of all your important data on either handset – or both, even.

Toshiba Folio 100 gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update (unofficial)

IFA 2012 in Berlin, Germany concluded recently, but it was at IFA two years ago when the Toshiba Folio 100 tablet was revealed to the world, being one of Toshiba’s first Android-powered devices that came with a 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core processor and a 10” 1024 x 600 pixel display with Android 2.2 FroYo in tow. Of course, history tells us that the Toshiba Folio 100 failed to live up to its intended potential, which was why it was scrapped eventually without any official software updates from Toshiba to boot.

Good thing an active community of independent developers continued to ensure that the Toshiba Folio 100 is “alive” so to speak, having released an unofficial version of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean for the venerable tablet. Right now, a couple of different builds of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean are available, so choose wisely. Issues are a given, with problems associated with Wi-Fi connectivity, certain display glitches and such, but at least it is up and running! Proceed at your own risk though.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Preview

As expected, Samsung has launched the Galaxy Note 2, which is even larger than the original Galaxy Note. Many didn’t think that this was possible to make it larger, but Samsung did, and they have pushed the concept of the Galaxy Note phone to the next level.

First, the design is beautiful, and although it comes in two colors, I have to admit that I like the pearl white version better. In many ways, it looks like the first Galaxy Note, but with some traits of the Galaxy S3 as well. The combination of both designs yields a winner here. Beyond the appearance, there are three things that have been improved by quite a bit. (more…)

Jelly Bean for Verizon Galaxy Nexus available (pre-release)

Jelly BeanIf you happen to own a Galaxy Nexus from Verizon, there is a pre-release of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system update available at the moment, but you will need to do your fair bit of homework before you are able to get your Galaxy Nexus up and running with some Jelly Bean goodness. For starters, you will need to make a return to stock 4.0.4/IMM76K, followed by unlocking the device and installing a custom recovery (ClockworkMod or TWRP will do). Once done, just flash the IMM76Q package using custom recovery, followed by flashing the JRO03O update via the same route as well.

Bear in mind that this operating system update has not been certified by the folks over at Verizon Wireless, so you will need to unlock your bootloader beforehand as mentioned. As usual, it makes perfect sense to perform a backup of all your data beforehand lest something goes awry as you can never tell when Mr. Murphy is going to come knocking on your door.

Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update headed for Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 10.1 ‘very soon’

Jelly BeanIf there is one thing that we might have missed out in stressing on earlier this morning at Samsung Unpacked, it would be this – their IFA 2012 keynote in Berlin, Germany, has more or less confirmed that there is an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update headed for the direction of the Samsung Galaxy S3 as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 “very soon”. I know that there aren’t too many months left in 2012 before the calendar spills its guts over to 2013, but surely “very soon” is a far more optimistic view compared to “later this year”, right? I am looking at no later than October, but that alone is open to speculation until the horse’s mouth spits something out for us to chew on (and definitely not an apple here). After all, there was a leaked copy of an official Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean build that was outed earlier in August, but it would be wise as usual to tread on the side of caution here.

Motorola Droid gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean ROM (unofficial)

If there was a phone from Motorola with plenty of heart, I guess you can say that the Motorola Droid would be it. After all, this is the first Android-powered smartphone from Motorola which helped lift the company’s mobile division out of the doldrums, offering a ray of hope in the process due to the number of sales recorded. It was solid overall, although I would have liked to see a better battery life when it was first released. The Motorola Droid can be relegated to the museum now, but it seems the original Droid’s legs still has some miles left in them. After all, a developer over at XDA forums decided to go ahead with a complete build of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, the latest version of the Android operating system.

Initial feedback is as expected – this is an extremely functional ROM, where the camera seemed to be extremely slow, or did not work at all. For those who have an old school Motorola Droid lying around unlocked and rooted, why not go ahead with the Jelly Bean update? At least it ought to put to shame owners of other far newer smartphones which are still rocking to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean leaked for Samsung Galaxy S3 without any restrictions

Near the end of the previous working week, we talked about how Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean test firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S3 has been made available for download, but it seems that the Galaxy S3 Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update has leaked out yet again. Just how is this relevant to last week’s release? Well, it seemed that the update which was released last week had its fair share of restrictions concerning firmware and carriers, but this latest version no longer has such restrictions in place, and they can be easily downloaded and installed by anybody who has the international Samsung Galaxy S3 model in their possession.

Basically, if you happen to own the Samsung Galaxy S3 with the model number III GT-I9300 would be able to enjoy the update. Just bear in mind that this leaked Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update is a test firmware, and it might not even be the final version which is meant for the Galaxy S3. We await with bated breath for the official update which will, in all probability, will be released via Samsung Kies – and there are already whispers of an August 29th date circling around. Apart from that, if you install this leaked Jelly Bean update, it would mean voiding your warranty.
