Xperia Sola Gets Stock Jelly Bean Port

Xperia Sola Gets Stock Jelly Bean PortIt was just a few days back when there was word going around concerning a report on stock Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware being ported over to the Sony Xperia U, and of course, there were other instances of different smartphones getting the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean treatment as well. Well, it seems that the Sony Xperia Sola will soon be on the receiving end of a Jelly Bean update, thanks to the presence of an unofficial port since there does not seem to be any word from Sony concerning an official update up till now.

All you Xperia Sola owners, you might want to drop a note and thank munjeni from xda-developers who has done all the hard work on your behalf, having ported over firmware build 6.2.A.0.400 from the Xperia P and Xperia go. Before you are able to install the ROM, you would first need to be in possession of an unlocked bootloader while running a stock Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich ROM. Having said that, you are able to install the Jelly Bean ROM from recovery.

Jelly Bean Ahead Of Ice Cream Sandwich In Android Rankings

Jelly Bean Ahead Of Ice Cream Sandwich In Android RankingsWell, the inevitable has finally happened, where Google’s Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system is now ahead of its predecessor, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich version in mobile devices that run on the Android platform. Both Android 4.1 as well as Android 4.2 Jelly Bean have a combined share of 28.4% running on active devices, while Ice Cream Sandwich occupies second place, with Android 2.3 Gingerbread still remaining tops.

This would mean that the number of active devices running Jelly Bean have risen by 3.4% in April, surpassing Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich which stands at 27.5%, according to Google’s recently published monthly user numbers. Unfortunately, Jelly Bean’s growing adoption rate was not enough to overtake the declining Android 2.3 Gingerbread’s market share, where despite dropping 1.7%, it still occupies a 38.5% stake overall. We can only see Jelly Bean growing from strength to strength in the weeks and months ahead.

Google Android 4.3 Spotted

Google Android 4.3 SpottedIt is more or less a given consensus among smartphone users of the Android world that the next version of the Android operating system would come in the form of the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie. Having said that, does that mean we are no longer going to see any more iterations of Jelly Bean, which currently has its bus parked at Android 4.2? Perhaps not, as there were server logs discovered which pointed to the existence of Android 4.3, and even better yet, it uses the Jelly Bean moniker.

So far, there has been servers which reported connections from various devices which were running on Android 4.3, build JWR23B. A quick analysis of the IP addresses that were utilized by this gear, have managed to identify these as the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices, which would mean the crosshairs point straight to Google’s campus. Since these have begun to appear in logs, it would mean only one thing – Google is currently working on gearing up for the software’s formal launch. Does this mean we won’t see the official announcement of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie at Google I/O later this year?

Motorola Photon Q Gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update

Motorola Photon Q Gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean UpdateWe did take the Motorola Photon Q out for an in-depth spin in September last year, and we are pleased to announce that at long last, owners of the Motorola Photon Q would be able to wrap their fingers around the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. I guess this is a good thing, as at the very least, it gives additional mileage to the smartphone. Heck, older handsets released last year seem to be on a Jelly Bean roll lately, and the HTC One S is one of them, too. Just what will Android 4.1 Jelly Bean bring to the table other than a rather lengthy list of bug fixes?

Sprint and Motorola have worked together to deliver the Jelly Bean update for the slider smartphone, where the update is known as 9.8.2Q-122_XT897_FFW-5. Of course, this means your precious Motorola Photon Q would now be on the receiving end of the likes of Project Butter and Google Now that ought to make you fend off the clarion call of the Samsung Galaxy S4…at least for a while. Have you grabbed this Over The Air (OTA) update already, and assuming you answered in the affirmative, how has it been treating you?

T-Mobile’s HTC One S Gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update At Last

T Mobile’s HTC One S Gets Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Update At LastThe HTC One S held the title of being the thinnest smartphone from HTC when it was first introduced to the world at Mobile World Congress last year, and how has it fared since? Well, the HTC One S did not manage to enjoy a breakout to the mainstream market, although it was still a decent phone even back then, but there was plenty of competition when it came to the mid-range smartphone segment. Good to know that there is life left in the legs of the HTC One S from T-Mobile, as it has just received the long awaited Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update.

Well, like the saying goes, better late than never, but sometimes, if it is going to be this late, it might as well never arrive at all. The international rollout of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One S was December last year, but at least is remains a month behind the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update which arrived on the AT&T HTC One X.

Sony’s Jelly Bean Fest For Their Smartphones

Sony’s Jelly Bean Fest For Their SmartphonesWe do know that Sony Mobile has been rather anxious to roll out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean operating system update for the masses, especially for the Xperia P, Xperia go and Xperia E dual for some time already, and this time, it is for real, as Sony Mobile has officially announced that this rollout for all three of the mentioned smartphones will begin sometime this week. Do bear in mind that some patience is required, considering how this will be achieved in phases, and the rollout process will ramp up over this month and the next.

Of course, other than the benefits of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean that we already know such as Google Now, the latest update will also deliver its fair share of different and improved Sony features, such as more intuitive versions of Sony Media apps (can you say Walkman, Album and Movies?), a new Battery Stamina Mode to let your smartphone last longer than ever before, and the ability to organize and look for your apps in a more efficient manner among others. Are you stoked yet?

Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G Gets Jelly Bean Update

Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G Gets Jelly Bean UpdateOn the ill-fated 9/11 anniversary last year, we brought you word that T-Mobile is set to deliver the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G (boy, is it ever a mouthful for a smartphone moniker!) to the masses for $150 with a new 2-year customer agreement, where it was then all set to roll out on the 19th of September 2012. Well, the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G certainly managed to hit the market back then, and it does leave the masses wondering just when will T-Mobile introduce the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to put to bed the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system that comes as stock?

Good news, as owners of the Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G have started to report that they have been on the receiving end of the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update from T-Mobile, as this particular update can be downloaded via Over The Air (OTA) or Samsung KIES. Regardless, we would suggest you stick to a Wi-Fi connection since the update itself weighs more than 400MB, so to consume that much data in your monthly data plan is definitely not a wise thing to do. Can you say, “Google Now, here you come!”?

Asus MeMo Pad Gets Android 4.2 Jelly Bean Update

Asus MeMo Pad Gets Android 4.2 Jelly Bean UpdateAsus has its fair share of smartphones and tablets, although you can more or less say that their coterie of Android-powered devices would definitely pale in comparison to what other manufacturers such as Samsung has delivered. Well, we do know that their MeMo Pad Smart ME301T, a 10-inch Android-powered tablet, will be on the receiving end of the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system update, which is good news considering how this is their most affordable 10-inch tablet for the masses.

With the Asus MeMo Pad, it comes with a 10.1-inch display at 1,280 x 800 pixel resolution, a 1.2GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and 16GB of internal memory, retailing for $299 a pop, making it somewhat akin to a Nexus 7 albeit with a larger viewing real estate. The jump from Android 4.1 Jelly Bean to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean would not see that much a paradigm shift compared to Ice Cream Sandwich to Jelly Bean, although do expect to see its fair share of improvements such as support for multiple user accounts on the same tablet, better text prediction, and of course, the gesture-based typing virtual keyboard.

Xperia P And Xperia Go About To Receive Jelly Bean Update Real SoonSony did promise earlier that they will be rolling out the Android Jelly Bean update for the entire slew of Xperia-branded devices which were introduced last year, and of course, it goes without saying that in 2012, not every single device that was rolled out is guaranteed to be on the receiving end of a Jelly Bean update. Good to know that the folks over at Sony have announced via Twitter that they will confirm a Jelly Bean update for two more of their 2012 Xperia range smartphones, namely the Sony Xperia P and the Sony Xperia Go.

Right now, this particular update is in very final stages, and additional information concerning it will be delivered to the masses from next week onwards.
