Lazy Jewelry: Sloth Rings

Lazy dressers now have one accessory that they must add to their collection: Sloth Rings. Their name says it all, actually. They’re basically rings featuring a sloth that looks like it’s hugging your finger when you put it on.

Adorable little critters, aren’t they?

Finger Sloth Ring

You can choose from three available sloth colors, but if you’re too lazy to even do that, then I suggest you for brown, which is pretty much their default color.

The rings are handmade using polymer clay by Teresa Macdonald of CuriousBurrow, and because of that, you can expect that no two sloths will ever be completely the same.

The Sloth Rings are available online for $20(USD) each. They’re made to order, so you’ll have to wait two to three weeks before your ring gets shipped out. And if you’re too lazy to slip one on your finger, she also makes a sloth necklace, and a sloth to hold your keys for you.

Girls Won’t Be Able to Resist this Rainbow Resistor Bracelet

It’s been a while since I did any serious circuit board hacking, but back in the day I saw my share of electronic components. One of my favorite parts was always the resistor – not because of its rudimentary electrical properties – but because its value could always be identified through a convenient color-coding scheme. In fact, I think at some point I had actually memorized a resistor color chart. Of course, now my mind is feeble, and I couldn’t tell the difference between a 22 ohm and a 2200 ohm. While I don’t personally wear bracelets, I’m still highly compelled by this nifty bracelet made from colorful resistors.

Artist Megan Nissen of Techcycled carefully selects resistors and assembles these nifty “ladder” style bracelets which have a rainbow of resistor colors. While the bracelets are definitely geeky, they’re also elegant, with sparkly Swarovski crystals and finished with a nice silver toggle clasp to hold it on your wrist.

The Rainbow Resistor Bracelet sells for $125(USD) over on Etsy. While you’re over there, be sure to check out Techcycled complete collection of  jewelry fabricated from recycled electronic components and wires.

Resistance is futile. There, I said it.

Pixar Engagement Ring Boxes: Will You Animate Me?

Pixar fans who want to tie the knot really should have something like these awesome engagement ring boxes to help seal the deal. You want to make sure they say yes after all – and every little bit helps. You can’t ask a girl to marry based on just your dashing good looks and knowledge of every Star Trek episode, right?

Bioshock Infinite Bird/Cage Necklaces: Choose Your Path (on Etsy)

The bird and cage necklaces in Bioshock Infinite are one of the “choices” offered in the critically acclaimed game. In that world, Elizabeth asks you to choose which necklace she should get. But in this world, you don’t have to choose, because you can buy both of these fan made replicas. You don’t even have to buy either of them.

Of course, you won’t know how not owning either or both of these necklaces will affect your game’s ending. Compounding matters is the fact that Etsy seller League of Shadows has three different bronze outlines for the pendants. And that the pendants are also available as brooches. Brooches be crazy.

You know what they say – there’s always a lighthouse, there’s always a man, there’s always a city. Not that I know why they say that; I haven’t played the game yet. What I do know is that you can buy the necklaces and brooches from League of Shadows for $13 (USD) each.

Alien Chestburster Necklace Really Bursts from Your Chest

Few things in life make a woman look more appealing than an alien bursting from her chest. Well, aside from the odd TARDIS corset or Dalek dress.

H.R. Giger would be so proud. This Xenomorph necklace is made from bronze and can be purchased from Cthulhu Wake Up‘s Etsy shop for $50(USD). I’m not sure that it is very practical, I mean how would it stay in place, unless it’s got some sort of sticky alien goo on the back of the pendant.

Still, if you want to recreate the horror of an alien bursting from your chest, this is a great way to do it. Maybe you could wear some fake blood around the base. Okay ladies, would you wear this?

Sterling Silver LEGO Minifig Snaps Together with Regular Bricks: Metalfig

Are you a LEGO fanatic? Then, maybe you’d like to add another minifig to your collection. But this isn’t any ordinary minifig, no. It’s made from solid metal.

sterling lego minifig 1

Designer Jonathan Brady has created this gorgeous LEGO-inspired minifig from .925 sterling silver. It’s not only a perfectly accurate model of a minifig, but all of the joints are posable, and it even is compatible with regular LEGO bricks. It’s actually made from eight pieces of cast solid medal, held together with tiny retaining rings. But this minifig isn’t just for you to stare at. If you’ve got the dough, you can actually order one for yourself through Jonathan’s recent Kickstarter campaign.

Though it’ll cost you. A full-size posable minifig in sterling silver will set you back $475(USD). But if that’s too rich for your blood, you can grab one that doesn’t move for $270, a 2/3rds scale version as a pendant for $190, or a pair of 1/3rd scale earrings for just $70. Though it you want one that actually moves, you’ll have to go with the $475 version.

If you’re really rolling in the dough, aim high and go for the solid 14 karat gold version for $4250, or the one-of-a-kind platinum version for a whopping $9,500.

Be sure not to step on any LEGOs as you run over to Kickstarter to get in on the project before it closes on May 28.

Mana Bar Necklace Can be Equipped by All Classes

Last year we saw Critical Hit Collectibles’ glow-in-the-dark Life Bar necklace. The Etsy shop is now selling a necklace containing the other half of the RPG staple. When you wear this, I hope you have a fun time explaining to non-gamers that your name isn’t “Mana.”

The pendant glows in the dark as well:

Critical Hit Collectibles can also make “partially depleted” versions of both the Mana Bar and Life Bar necklaces. One is almost full while the other is almost empty.

Cast the Browser spell and head to Critical Hit Collectibles’ Etsy shop to order the Mana Bar necklace for $16 (USD).

Is There Really a Market for $32,000 Mushroom Flash Drives?

I’ve seen my fair share of incredibly odd devices for computers over the years, but most of the really bizarre stuff is rather cheap. You have to figure that the stranger a device is, the less money it has to cost for people to be interested. That isn’t the case with a company called Shawish that has just unveiled some new USB flash drives that look like mushrooms.

shawish usb mushroom news

First off, I don’t think there are a lot of mushroom enthusiasts out there that have been sitting around counting the days till they could find a fungus-inspired storage device for their computer. Oh, did I mention that these drives cost up to $32,000 each? Yep, these aren’t any old mushroom-shaped storage devices, they’re made out of precious metal encrusted with real gemstones.

The mushroom flash drives are made from yellow, pink, or white 18 karat gold. They’re also bejeweled with rubies, sapphires, or diamonds. The flash drives themselves have just 32 GB of storage space. You’d think for this price, they’d splurge for a 1TB model at least.

I just don’t see anyone buying one of these for that kind of money. Who knows, maybe there really is someone out there with more money than sense. And who also loves mushrooms.

NES Cartridge Ring: Fancicom

Etsy artist Jess Firsoff makes NES cartridge rings. All you have to do is insert them into your loved one’s front-loading cartridge ring slot. You can ask her to make a cartridge stud out of any game, including the famous gold cart of The Legend of Zelda.

If you don’t specify your game of choice when you place your order, Jess will just make you a Mario Bros./Duck Hunt ring.

Jess normally sells the NES cartridge rings on her Etsy store Oh My Geekness for $25 (USD) each, but she temporarily closed the shop “for a few days” so she can work on her exams. I suggest you use the time to decide which cartridge you’d like to turn into a ring.
