Titanfall Gets Limited-Edition Xbox One Controller

If there’s one game I’m really excited about that’s coming soon to the Xbox One, it’s Titanfall. I feel like it’s been way too long since I played a good game with mech battles, so I can’t wait to play it when it hits this March. Now, Microsoft and Respawn Entertainment have revealed a limited-edition game controller to go with the game.

I have to say I really like the design of this wireless Xbox One controller, with graphics inspired by the C-101 carbine, a weapon used by the IMC Titan pilots in the game.

The $65(USD) controller is expected to be released on March 11, 2014 to coincide with the release of the game, and you can pre-order it from the Microsoft Store or Amazon.

PlayStation 4 Controller Works with PS3 Console: Shared Buttons

Good news for the PlayStation nation. It seems like the Dualshock 4 controller designed for the PlayStation 4 works with the PlayStation 3 console too. YouTuber Udetto, who writes for German gaming site Computer Bild Spiele, discovered the backwards compatibility while fiddling with a debug version of the PlayStation 4.

There is a catch however. Udetto says the controller will only work with the PS3 if it’s plugged in to the console via USB, which means that it won’t work with PS3 games that require you to play wirelessly. I don’t know of any game that has that requirement, but apparently FIFA 14 is one of those games. That’s really odd. Does that mean you can’t charge a PS3 controller and play FIFA 14 at the same time?

We should remember that Udetto’s discovery was with a prototype controller, and despite his positive findings it’s possible that the controller won’t work with many PS3 games. But since we can buy the controller without shelling out for the entire PS4, here’s hoping Sony can make this backwards compatibility official.

Valve Demos Steam Controller: Jack of All Games

Yesterday Valve released a video showing a prototype of the Steam Controller – which is designed to be used with the company’s upcoming Steam Machines – being used to play a handful of games. The demo focused on the controller’s “legacy mode”, in which the controller emulates a mouse and a keyboard, letting you map keys and cursor movement to the controller’s buttons, triggers and trackpads.

In the demo, the controller was used to play four mouse-heavy games: Portal, Civilization V, Counter-Strike: G.O. and Papers, Please. The games were chosen to show the accuracy of the trackpads, as well as how well it works with menu-heavy games that were meant to be used with a keyboard and mouse.

As was mentioned in the demo, Valve will release more demos featuring a variety of games. Even if you’ve already decided that the controller isn’t for you, remember that Steam Machines will still support mouse and keyboard combos. In any case I think that the Steam Controller is mainly for console gamers, to get them to try the PC games on Steam. That said, I wouldn’t be surprised if Valve is working on or supporting the development of games that were made with the Steam Controller in mind.

Game Controller Cookies: Press A to eAt

I’ve really been trying to avoid carbs lately, but I keep falling off the wagon. Now that I’ve seen these cookies shaped like game controllers, I’m really screwed. I’m not only off the wagon, but under its wheels for these sugary treats.

game controller cookies

These beautiful gamer cookies come in the shape of a Wii-mote, PS3 Dual Shock and Xbox 360 controllers. They’re made by Peapod’s Cookies and perfectly capture every detail of the actual controllers.

Of course, all this cookie artistry comes at a price. The set of 12 controllers shown here will set you back $52(USD). That’s over $4 per cookie. Still, that’s cheaper than a single A-list title for either the Xbox 360 or PS3, and way tastier. Way better than those invisible Kinect cookies I ate last night.

X-Arcade Solo Joystick Lends A Retro Look

X Arcade Solo Joystick Lends A Retro Look Fashion is said to recycle itself – what is fashionable in the past, and is not so right now, might just end up being fashionable down the road a few years later. Well, that might be true where haute couture is concerned, but if you were to take technology into the equation, then certainly 640kb of RAM is not enough for everybody, especially in this day and age. The exterior of a computing device, however, might not mind taking a few steps back to the past. Case in point the X-Arcade Solo Joystick that certainly brings an air of retro about it.

Now available for pre-order, the X-Arcade Solo Joystick will ship sometime in early December, which would make it arrive in time for the mad Christmas holiday season where kids will remain glued to the front of the TV with the latest games, while adults talk politics and other current world events over a tipple or two. The X-Arcade Solo Joystick is said to be nigh indestructible, measuring 11” from side to side, using 12lbs of industrial- grade materials. The pre-order will set you back by $99.99 a pop, and it will play nice with PCs, Linux-based machines and Mac machines, too. Console gamers will have to fork out a little bit extra on the side to have it working with their machines.

Razer Atrox Arcade Stick for the Xbox 360 Requires No Quarters to Play

As a child of the 80s, I spent plenty of time in the arcade playing video games and continued that practice as long as there were arcades in the mall. One of the things that used to irritate me more than anything was when my favorite fighting game had a damaged joystick. There’s nothing worse than a junky joystick when you’re playing a fighting game. I miss the days of brawny joysticks for gaming, and if you do too, Razer has got your back with its latest offering.

atrox1

Razer has unveiled the Atrox arcade stick – made specifically for the Xbox 360 console. This is a big and beefy controller with an actual Sanwa Denshi arcade-quality joystick, along with 10 Sanwa arcade buttons. The coolest part about the controller is that Razer has designed it to support the modding community.

Razer offers a template to allow you to print out your own custom artwork for the lid, and the top opens to reveal a storage compartment underneath. Inside that compartment the controls is an interchangeable bat-shaped handle for the joystick, a screwdriver, and a storage compartment for its detachable 13-foot-long USB cable.

You can also mod the controller and it has a special honeycomb system inside designed to make it easy to screw in additional hardware or accessories. The Atrox controller will ship worldwide this June for $199.99(USD).
