Microsoft Surface phone tracked down, resides on Redmond campus

No, Juggernaut Alpha is not some sort of weird X-Men villain that has been endowed with even more powers, but rather, it is the codename for a mysterious smartphone which could very well be Microsoft’s very own Windows Phone 8-powered device. Heck, some people even went out on a limb to claim that this Windows Phone 8 device will carry the Microsoft Surface name, branching out from the tablet market. In fact, a developer’s logs dated October 13th carried sensitive geographical information that placed this mystery device squarely in Studio H which incidentally, is located on Microsoft’s Redmond campus.

To make the entire story juicier, Studio H is the very same location where the Windows Phone Design Team congregates and work each day. We did catch Juggernaut Alpha in benchmarks earlier this year, and those figures should have improved by now assuming work has continued on the device until today. A Microsoft Surface Windows Phone 8 handset does seem to sound plausible, after all, didn’t Apple have a 5-years-and-counting worldwide hit with their iPhone when a phone is most probably the last thing most folks would have expected Apple to deliver?

Juggernaut Alpha with Windows Phone 8 appears in benchmarks, shows how much sharp it is

A while back, we spotted the Juggernaut Alpha’s unique and hard-to-forget moniker in a document listing a number of alleged upcoming Windows Phone 8 handsets, and now the device has managed to land itself in a purported set of early benchmarks. According to WMPoweruser, the Juggernaut Alpha results are from a Windows Phone app called WP Bench, where it clearly shows how much faster it is than its closest challenger — nearly doubling its speeds when compared to those of the HTC Titan. Needless to say, if true, this kind of outcome is to be expected given all the improvements Microsoft announced last month, but this only gives us more to look forward to come that eventual WP8 fall release.

List of alleged Windows Phones reveals Nokia Dogphone, Fluid and P4301, working titles we hope

Designer discovers list of Windows Phones you'll likely never own

It looks like Nokia has been playing the blindfolded dictionary game again. Well, that’s if the image we see above is correct. It’s purportedly a table containing names of upcoming Windows Phone 8 devices, found by a curious wallpaper designer. The names listed for Nokia include “Fluid,” “Dogphone,” and the previously seen “Phi.” One slightly less superlative name — Nokia P4301 — caught the attention of PhoneArena, who mused that P might be for PureView? An interesting, if not optimistic leap. There are two other items in the table that might pique interest: a Samsung SGH-1687 and a Juggernaught Alpha. There’s little else to get excited about specification-wise, bar different versions of Windows Phone, however. That said, no one as yet has mentioned the elephant in the room — what about that “Virtual” model in the works from Microsoft?
