Avengers Owls: Give a Hoot and Assemble Already!

We all have our favorite Avengers. Personally, I’ve always liked Iron Man and Thor the best, but after Mark Ruffalo’s take on the green guy this past summer, I’m beginning to like the Hulk again too. Well regardless of which Avenger is your favorite, we can all agree that owls are pretty awesome creatures. So what could be better than Avengers owls?

Artist Morgan Chambers makes cool stuffed owls based on pop culture figures, among them The Avengers. These 7-inch-tall plush superheroes are handmade using eco-felt, and ready to take on all villains who dare to come their way. Okay, so them may not have any actual superpowers, but they will kill them with cuteness – one of the most dastardly weapons known to villainkind.

Oh, and if you’re feeing villainous, you can always go for the Loki owl.

For $35(USD) you can get a single plush owl, or for $95, you can pick your favorite three , and Morgan will make them for you. Since they are handmade, you’ll have to wait about a week per plush for them to be made, but the end result will be worth it. Just tell those supervillains they have to wait.

Dark Knight Bookshelves: When Your Kindle is in Ruin, You Have My Permission to Buy

While most of us have converted to reading digital formats instead of traditional paper books, many of us still have a collection of reading material that deserves to be preserved in physical form – like classic comics, anime or art books. So if you have just a few books that need a home, what better place to keep them than in a Batman bookshelf?

These custom-made bookshelves from Fahmi Sani of Fiction Furniture are inspired by Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight series, with the sharp-edged Bat-symbol associated with those flicks. It’s the perfect thing for keeping reading materials in your Bat-cave.

And for those of you who can’t decide if you like the old or new Batman logo better, he’s got a schizophrenic version for you guys too. Though if a bat had lop-sided wings like this, it would probably only be able to fly in a circle – if it could fly at all:

They’re both available over on his Etsy shop for $267 Australian Dollars (~$284 USD).

Kid’s Spaceship Bed: To Sleep and Beyond!

There are cool dads and there are awesome dads. Redditor JeremiahGordon is the awesome type. You see, he built this cool spaceship his son Finn’s fifth birthday – and it is completely amazing.
spaceship bed

He made a loft platform for the bed, with portals that look out into space, and then created a spaceship control room in the space below the bed. Most dads would have stopped at the loft platform. Dad pieced together the master control board from junk he found in a television station’s dumpster. They weren’t using the stuff anymore.

It has so many switches and levers that this kid will never go to bed on time again. I hope he grows up to be an Astronaut, or at least do something this cool for his own kids when he’s older. Though he could just grow up to be a TV director.

Worf Hoodie: Don’t Let Klingons Catch You Wearing One

Confession: I’m wary of sharing anything related to Star Trek because I barely know anything about the franchise. It’s a franchise right? Right. But I do know that I’d rather wear a Worf hoodie instead of a Chewbacca hoodie. Notice how those two sound like they were named after dogs? Notice how I changed the subject because I didn’t have anything else to say?

Oh I know! If Worf ever needs to go under cover or keep a low profile, he can wear this hoodie so he can blend in. The hood will hide the ridges on his head. Oh wait.

Forgive me Warries Trekkies. You can order a Worf hoodie for $95 (USD) from Etsy seller Ewoks in Tutus. What? I did not make that up. I swear! Click the link!

These Are Not Lightsabers, Just Sabers That Light Up

Want to have your own lightsaber? You can buy a Star Wars kit or a LaserSaber, or you can make your own. But you definitely shouldn’t take note of Philip Isherwood’s store, Saberforge. Because he doesn’t make lightsabers. No sir. I mean just look at this one:

Clearly not a lightsaber. And because there’s no existing term that can accurately describe these strange, light-up sabers, Isherwood named them Battle Sabers. They are made from aircraft-grade aluminum and contain very powerful LEDs; some of the designs also have leather grips or embellishments. The blade itself is made of polycarbonate and is removable.

If you’re interested in role-playing wars fought among the stars, head to Saberforge’s store on Etsy, where the Battle Sabers are sold for $129-$449 (USD). Note that some of the sabers also have sound modules, though for the life of me I can’t imagine what sound they would make.

Shark Beer Cozies: Drink up, or Be Eaten!

Sharks can be menacing creatures, and beer can be a frequent target of party theft. So it only makes sense that if you don’t want people to mess with your beer, why not protect it with a shark? A shark beer cozy, that is.

These amusing handknit shark beer cozies help keep your beer bottle cool, your hand less sweaty, and might scare off those who have eyes on swiping your brewski. Ok, they’re not particularly imposing. In fact, they’re pretty cute, so you might want to keep an extra eye on it so you don’t lose both your beer and your awesome shark cozy while you’re not looking.

They’re available in traditional shark grey, and other unlikely shark colors like purple, blue, red and green over at HandaMade’s Etsy shop for $20(USD) each.

Chase Down Some Power Pills with a Ms. Pac-Man Latte

I like my lattes with plenty of sweetener in them, but I think that I’d be fine with a dose of power pills instead of sugar or aspartame if that’s what they’re serving these days.

ms pac man latte

This Ms. Pac-Man latte was carefully composed by expert barista Andrew Alcala (aka MonkDrew), who clearly knows his way around a cup of espresso and some foamy milk.

While he hasn’t made a whole lot of other geeky lattes, he does have a nice Triforce and a couple of awesome dragons among his many other creative beverage designs. I can only imagine such artistry slows down the line at the coffee shop a little bit.

Hexapod Hexacopter: Time to Build Underwater Bunkers

Mad Lab Industries stays true to its name by frankensteining a hexacopter with a hexapod, driving 12 nails into humanity’s coffin in the process. Meet Hexa², a remote-controlled flying robot spider. Kill it with water!

hexapod hexacopter by mad lab industries

As you’ll see in the video below, the two parts of Hexa² are currently controlled separately. Watch it fly, walk, walk while flying and bully a plastic container:

Mad Lab Industries are planning to launch a Kickstarter to produce and sell Hexa² kits. So now we’re funding our own doom? Seriously though I want one. I hope they can make one that can walk, fly and swim as a stretch goal.

GE Scientists Unveil High-Tech Sleigh for Santa

For generations, Santa has been cruising around Christmas Eve in his red sleigh pulled by his flying reindeer. Scientists at GE think it’s time for Santa Claus to update his ride with some new high-tech materials. So scientists have come up with a greener and smarter sleigh to help Santa get around the world tonight delivering gifts.

ge sleigh

The concept sleigh would use 3-D printed parts, including a more aerodynamic blade design that improves energy efficiency. It’s also sprayed with nanotech Icephobic coatings to repel ice and water. The sleigh is constructed using Ceramic Matrix Composites in the frame, enabling it to travel into space and return to Earth without burning up on re-entry. Considering this thing is an open top sleigh, Santa will need a spacesuit.

The sleigh is also equipped with an electric traction motor that has MEMS switching technology to take over the powertrain when the reindeer to rest. In addition, it’s connected to the Internet, allowing Santa to navigate efficiently around air traffic and keep an eye on the last minute naughty or nice list updates. Check out more details about Santa’s shiny new ride in the Flash widget below:
