Colorful Water Dancing Speakers Put a Tiny Bellagio Fountain on Your Desktop

Speakers are great for hearing your music, but most speakers look pretty boring. So when when you aren’t listening to music, they look terrible in your home. These Water Dancing Speakers deliver sound and are visually pleasing to look at, making the whole experience much nicer.

These speakers each have 4 colorful LEDs aimed upward, along with jets of water that bounce along with the beat. The color of the light changes at random, and the height of the water is determined by the volume and pitch of the sound. They connect to your computer via USB, and are completely sealed so you won’t need to refill them.

Pretty cool huh? They cost about $63(USD) for a pair over at Red5 and will add some color and movement to your room.

Tom Hardy and Michael Fassbender to Star in Video Game Inspired Movies

Let’s be honest, Hollywood doesn’t have the best track record when it comes to adapting video game properties to movies. I’m looking directly at you Dwayne Johnson and that sorry excuse for a Doom movie. Now we have a couple more video game movies set to go into production starring some big names.

video game movies

Reports are indicating that Tom Hardy, the dude who played Bane in the The Dark Knight Rises, will play Sam Fisher, the trident-goggle-wearing protagonist from the Splinter Cell series of video games and books. While Splinter Cell is coming to movie theaters is cool enough, Michael Fassbender has reportedly signed up to star in a movie adaption of the Assassin’s Creed video game.

Fassbender will be best known by geeks all around the world for his turn as Magneto in X-Men: First Class. Fassbender also played a slightly insane, but awesome cyborg in Prometheus. Here’s hoping both of these video game movie adaptations turn out much better than Doom. Or Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Or Tomb Raider. Or Final Fantasy. Or Prince of Persia. Or Super Mario Bros.

The Chair That Knits While You Rock

Old folks aren’t the only ones who might want to take up knitting. For years, I’ve wanted to learn because I wanted to wear knitted stuff and be able to tell people that I knitted it myself.

Unfortunately, I’m pretty bad at it. But fortunately for me and all the other people who suck at knitting, there’s the Rocking-Knit.

rocking knit
Basically, this rocking chair will do all the knitting for you. And all you have to do is sit and do whatever you want, as long as you keep rocking.

The Rocking-Knit was built by Damien Ludi and Colin Peillex from the University of Art and Design in Lausanne, Switzerland because they just couldn’t bear to see all that geriatric rocking energy go to waste.

The chair itself was created for the University’s Low-Tech Factory design exhibition, and we’re not likely to see it go into production commercially. Regardless, I know a lot of people who’d want to have this chair in their living room to help them get their knitting out of the way while at the same time lounging.

Add Up Concept Counts Spare Change, No Matter the Currency

A little bit goes a long way, and a little bit of loose change adds up. But what if you’ve got a handful of coins in different currencies that you’ve accumulated from your travels, just sitting in a jar at home?

Add UpThat’s one predicament the Add Up concept wants to try to eliminate. It’s basically a tiny exchange box with a lot that you can drop all your loose change in, whatever the currency. It then converts the amount to your domestic currency, which you can then add to your online accounts to get phone or Skype credits. Think CoinStar, but multicurrency.

Add Up1

Now this is an awesome way to put all that loose change to good use. The Add Up concept was thought up by Fan Cheng Kuei, Deng Pei Chih, and Hsieh Tsai Ni.

Angry Birds Star Wars Looks out-of-this-World and Jedi-riffic

The Star Wars version of Angry Birds is now upon us, and it looks like people are loving it so far. And by people, I mean me and my colleagues at work.

The Birds take their beef to outer space by battling the evil pigs that are all stormtroopered out.

angry birds star wars The game’s graphics do not disappoint, as we’ll get to see the avian versions of the beloved cast of Star Wars, including Luke Skywalker and a very haughty-looking Princess Leia. Aside from their usual abilities, these Angry Birds are equipped with lightsabers, blasters, and Jedi powers to aid them in their war against the piggies.

The game hit the iTunes App Store last week and you can get it for your iPhone and iPod Touch for $0.99 or for your iPad for $2.99, as well as for Android and Windows Phone 8 devices or for your Mac for $4.99.

Takara Tomy Robo Fish: Wall-E Meets Nemo

Halt, citizen! Put the goldfish down. You cannot take care of it, and it will not fill the hole in your heart that your ex punched through when she left. But if you already bought an aquarium, consider filling it with Robo Fish. Lifelike swimming is its prime directive.

takara tomy robo fish

Made by Takara Tomy, Robo Fish can move up and down randomly and at times even act like it’s foraging for food. It uses two LR44 watch batteries to power its waggling tail. Here’s a video uploaded by YouTuber Brandon Avery:

They’re not as lifelike as this one, but they’re good enough as toys. Or not. Some of the customer reviews on Amazon Japan – where Robo Fish can be ordered for¥2,980 (~$38 USD) each – say that the toy drains its batteries in just 2 hours. So maybe it really is looking for sustenance.

Great Leaders on Great Lizards [LEGO]

Horses are beautiful and majestic creatures. Armored limousines are stately and practical vehicles. But I think we can all agree that the only mode of transportation worthy of a great man is a dinosaur. Behold:

Yes, that is indeed George Washington riding a T.Rex while carrying a bazooka. The Brothers Brick’s Editor-in-Chief Andrew Becraft made these awesome LEGO creations, featuring some of the USA’s leaders riding dinosaurs. Here’s Abraham Lincoln on a velociraptor:

Now that’s a vampire hunter. Here’s Benjamin Franklin on a triceratops:

I love the lightning bolts on his hand. Finally here’s Teddy Roosevelt on a pterodactyl.

The Expendables have nothing on these badasses. Especially someone who’s on a missile-toting flying dinosaur. Check out Andrew’s Flickr page for the original images.

Samsung Turns Overly Attached Girlfriend Into an Overly Attached Ad

I don’t particularly like Justin Bieber, but I don’t have anything against him either. But I have to say that when the Overly Attached Girlfriend came up with an overly funny response to his Boyfriend music video, I was overly amused.

Turns out millions of others all over the world found her parody funny as well, since it went viral, and even resulted in a meme of its own.

overly attached girlfriendThere are many perks of having your video go viral. One of them is getting a couple of cents for every view from YouTube if you run ads on it. Another is the possibility of getting an endorsement deal from a big brand because of that viral video – a possibility which came true for the Overly Attached Girlfriend.

Samsung reached out and got her to endorse their new solid state drives. What better way to do the ad than to create another ‘Overly Attached’ video, right?

It seems like the concept is better on paper, though, because the whole ad gets a bit confusing and the ‘rap’ song isn’t exactly Grammy-worthy. What do you think?

See-Through Cocoon Lets You Live in Your Own Little Bubble

Every once in a while, I feel like being alone and that’s one of the times I feel extremely lucky and fortunate that we have a spare room in the house. Not that I’m a loner or anything, but I just like being able to get away from everyone and everything sometimes.

If I didn’t have a spare room to go to, then I’m sure something like the plastic-shelled Cocoon 1 would be totally up my alley. Although the price, not so much.

Cocoon1The Cocoon 1 is a piece of furniture that you can actually live in. It’s like the Cocoon Tent we saw earlier, only it’s made with a tough and clear material–and, well, it’s not a tent.

Cocoon

Designed by Swiss design group Micasa Lab, the Cocoon is cushy and roomy enough to let people sleep, eat, relax, and do whatever they want by their lonesome while they’re in it. The inside of the Cocoon is modular, so it can be configured as a living, working or even a cooking space. You can even get a Wi-Fi module for surfing the web inside of it.

The Cocoon 1 seems like a concept, but it’s actually an actual product that will be arriving sometime in Fall of 2013.

The only downside? The base model is priced at $2,990(USD), and goes up from there.
