iPhone 5/5S Case Made from Real Chocolate: Chocolate Covered Apple

You’ve probably seen iPhone cases shaped like chocolate bars. These on the other hand, are chocolate bars shaped like an iPhone case.

They are made by two Portland-based companies. Woodblock Chocolate supplied the bars of dark chocolate and iPhone and iPad accessory maker Grove machined the bars into cases. I know the Internet wants to get its hands on anything absurd, but the two companies have more sense than that and won’t be selling the tasty, but highly impractical cases.

It’s bedtime, so get in your medieval pajamas, lower the drawbridge and open the gate. This castle-style Murphy bed is from Etsy seller Tiny Town Studios and comes with hand carved fake stones, chain beams, and even faux moss and vines.  drawbridge 620x465magnify

It looks awesome and I envy the kid who gets to sleep in this fold-out bed. Though I’m wondering if this means that you are sleeping over the moat. Don’t roll out of bed or you might get a surprise.

The castle Murphy bed sells for $3,500(USD). The shop can also make a pirate ship bed or a spaceship bed, or just about anything else you can dream up if this isn’t your thing.

Flappy Bird for the Oculus Rift: Floculus Bird

If you think Flappy Bird is hard, wait ’til you play it in first-person. Er, from a flappy bird’s eye view. Game designer Holden Link made Floculus Bird, a variant of the hit mobile game designed to be played with the Oculus Rift.

Holden made the game as part of the Flappy Jam, a game jam set up to show support for Flappy Bird developer Don Nguyen, who was recently subjected to a lot of harassment and negative attention because of his game. Here’s YouTuber Shinxypaps trying out Floculus Bird.

WARNING: He cusses in the video. A lot. I think you know why:

Flap to Holden’s website to play the game on your browser or to download it for free. You don’t need an Oculus Rift to play the game on your browser, but you do need to have the Unity web player installed.

Missing Flappy Bird? Play a Game of Flappy Bert Instead

So Dong Nguyen has pulled Flappy Bird from app stores. If you weren’t able to download the highly addictive but simplistic game that has caused thousands of users to throw their phone against the wall in frustration, then you might want to check out the myriad of alternatives and rip-offs that it has inspired, starting with Flappy Bert.

Flappy Bert features none other than Bert from Sesame Street looking particularly grouchy as a bird lifts him by his hair with every tap or click of your mouse. Like the original, you’re supposed to guide Bert past the space between tunnels. Hit one and he’ll flop to the ground, calling out for Ernie.

You can play Flappy Bert here.

Basically the frame is a grid of 256 ultra-bright LED pixels, for showing off all kinds of geek art. In fact, Game Frame comes with over 40 brand new animations from eBoy. The hardware is Arduino-based, and the complete source code will be released once they ship. Thousands of images & animations can be stored on SD and played back the way you want, configured by two buttons on top.

While it’s not as high resolution as the Pixel, there’s something to be said for the chunky square LED pixels on the Game Frame.

A pledge of at least $230(USD) will get you a completely assembled Game Frame, while you can pick up a kit version with all components but the frame for $150, or without the LEDs for $60.

Facebook Launches Its Own Water Ferry Service for Workers

A lot of the major technology firms out there are trying to do their part to help the environment and to be green. That effort often extends to encouraging their workers to use public and mass transportation. Some of those tech firms, particularly Google and Apple, even run their own bus services.

sanfran 620x348magnify

Facebook has now announced that it has started its own ferry for workers. The water taxi service will float workers from San Francisco to Redwood City and back. The Redwood City drop off is apparently only a few miles from Facebook HQ. The water taxi service launched last week and is operating under a 90-day pilot period, after which point they will decide if they’ll roll it out more permanently.

The boat is a catamaran that can hold 30 people and has Wi-Fi, coffee, and snacks aboard. The water taxi should make for a nice trip considering how congested highways tend to get.

Star Wars 30-foot Cross Stitch: The Coruscant Tapestry

Last year we saw a 24-foot long print that depicts the history of Doctor Who, which was inspired by the mysterious Bayeux Tapestry. The talented pop artist Aled Lewis was also inspired by the relic to make an illustrated history, this time of Star Wars. But instead of drawing it he decided to hand-stitch the entire thing.

Aled calls his creation The Coruscant Tapestry. Yes, it’s not actually a tapestry, nor is it from Coruscant, but you can say the exact same thing about the Bayeux Tapestry. The whole thing is 30ft. long and 13in. tall. and relays the first six episodes of Star Wars. Along the borders of the strip Aled inscribed quotes from the movies in Aurebesh, the alphabet that was invented for the Star Wars universe.

The Coruscant Tapestry is currently on display at Gallery1988 in Los Angeles, California, but you can take it home for $20,000 (USD). Check out the gallery’s blog to see larger images of the piece.

This Victorian House Has a Spaceship in the Attic

If you are in the market for a new home, you might as well buy one that’s a little different from the rest – perhaps one that has a spaceship in the attic.

victorian house with spaceship 1 620x420magnify

This Victorian house is located near London, England. It has 7,000 square feet of living space with eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, two basement apartments, and looks quite elegant and traditional inside.

victorian house with spaceship 2 620x411magnify

However, as far as I’m concerned the attic is its main selling feature. It was created as a play space for kids, but adults like you and I would have fun playing in there too.

victorian house with spaceship 3 620x409magnify

You can own the house for £3,250,000 or about $5.3 million (USD). Totally worth it. It would be awesome to buy this house and then find it that it actually flies. Seems like the plot for a kids movie.
