I’d Buy This Robocop Robocup for a Dollar

I have my coffee. Your move, punk! I have been looking for a cool new mug, and I think this is the one. I don’t give a toss about the new Robocop reboot, just give me this mug.

This mug is made from ceramic and looks just like Robocop’s head. That’s all you need to know. Well, that and where we can buy one. Sadly, we may have to wait a while. It seems like the mug is only available for wholesale purchase right now. But soon, very soon it should make its way to retail channels and then it will be mine.

Bitcoin Now Accepted at TigerDirect

TigerDirect has been teasing for a while that Bitcoin payments would be turning up. That day has come with the retailer announcing this week that it is now accepting Bitcoin as payment for any of the items it sells.

TigerDirect sells a wide variety of computer hardware, displays and gadgets among other things. The payment processor for TigerDirect is BitPay and Tiger is now the largest customer for BitPay. TigerDirect is only accepting Bitcoin online, retail stores aren’t accepting the virtual currency at this point.

TigerDirect also has a bunch of hardware that you can purchase aimed specifically at Bitcoin mining. That opens the possibility of being able to pay for items with the Bitcoins mined using hardware you bought with Bitcoin.

LEGO Star Wars Bobble Heads Don’t Bobble, but They Do Have Heads

I’m not sure what you call a bobble head that doesn’t bobble, but that is what these LEGO figures are. They were created by a LEGO master using the Force named Jose Carlos Fernandez. He is also known as LEGO-man-at-arms and Wolf-at-Arms, so clearly he can’t make up his mind.

He created the scout trooper complete with his speeder bike and a big-headed Ewok right after stealing the speeder bike.

For some reason the scout reminds me of Wall-E. I think it must be his eyes. The speeder bike scenes were always some of my favorite in the original three-film franchise. I think these would make for some popular LEGO sets and they should be official kits.

Greeting Games: Sentiment DLC

A new online service called Greeting Games lets you attach a mini-game to a digital greeting card. The hilarious thing about the service? The recipient has to beat the game before he can read your message. Which means you can send Greeting Games to both loved ones and sworn enemies.

The mini-games involve the usual suspects, including match 3, Sudoku, word hunting, mahjong as well as Fruit Ninja clones, just given a different coating. The games are playable over any fairly modern device, including tablets and smartphones.

According to Polygon, aside from the prize message you’ll also be able to “add in-game messages as well as set the difficulty level, customize any attached messages within the card’s email and link their Facebook profile picture to the card.”

Greeting Games is free to use until the end of January. After that you’ll either have to pay an as yet undisclosed amount per card or sign up for a subscription to get discounts and other bonus features, such as “the option to send the same Greeting Game to several people.”

I wouldn’t be surprised if this becomes a hit, but I think it would be much better if the games were intentionally silly, easy to beat and ripped off game titles and aesthetics for more laughs. Like, there could be a Card of Greeting: Birth Ops 2. As it is I’d rather send an actual game to my loved ones.

Doctor Who Trivial Pursuit: Winning Proves You’re Smarter on the Inside

The Doctor Who merchandising machine has really kicked into high gear of late. It seems like every time we turn around there is something new carrying the Doctor Who brand. This time out, there is a new trivia game for fans of the series to compete against each other with.

who triviamagnify

The game is the Doctor Who Trivial Pursuit Travel Edition. It’s like traditional Trivial Pursuit, but all the questions are Doctor Who themed, naturally.

I think my friends might like this game. I usually dominate at normal Trivial Pursuit, leaving my opponents feeling dumb and defeated (with good reason). They won’t play the game with me anymore. Since I have never watched a single episode of Doctor Who all the way through, they might have a chance.

The cards have 600 questions and include categories like Time Lords, Companions, Episodes & Stories, Monsters, Cast, Crew, & Beyond, and Years and Dates. The game is available for $19.99(USD) from ThinkGeek. The game comes with a Dalek die,  numerous question cards, and a blue wedge container to hold it all. What, no TARDIS?

uArm Desktop Robot Arm: Industrial Devolution

A small robotics company called UFactory is working on the uArm, a small version of the industrial robot arms we often see tirelessly moving about in modern manufacturing assembly lines. The uArm is about the size of a desk lamp and is controlled through an Arduino-compatible board.

The current build of the uArm is made largely out of laser cut wood or acrylic and uses four off-the-shelf servo motors. It also has three different “hands”: a gripper, a suction cup and a small circular platform.

uFactory currently has a Windows program that lets you control the robot through a mouse or a keyboard. They’re currently working on Android and iOS apps too.

The company also wrote an Arduino library for uArm, so if you’re familiar with the language you can program the robot through that as well.

uFactory promises to make its design files, hardware and software open source after its Kickstarter campaign ends.

Pledge at least $185 (USD) on Kickstarter to get a uArm assembly kit as a reward. I’m waiting for Iron Man fans to reenact this scene with their armored pets.

Roll out the Red Carpet with These Paper Mario and Toad Rugs

If your personal Mushroom Kingdom has hardwood or tile floors, you know it can get pretty cold under your feet – especially this time of year. So why not warm up your tootsies courtesy of Super Paper Mario?

These 18″ x 20″ low-pile rugs are officially being called “mats” so I’m not sure exactly how plush they’ll feel, but at least your floor look much better with Paper Mario and Paper Toad hanging out on them. Both rugs are coming from Japanese collectibles maker FuRyu this April, and you can pre-order now over on NCSX for $18.90(USD) each or $35.90 for the pair.

If only These Tiny PlayStation Controllers Actually Worked

Earlier, we showed you a way to use an actual DualShock 4 controller with your jailbroken iOS device. While these are only DualShock 2 controllers, they will plug directly into your smartphone. Unfortunately, that’s where the similarity ends.

These teensy inch-wide PlayStation 2 DualShock 2 controllers are simply designed as decoration for your mobile device, but they are pretty cute and quite detailed. It’s too bad they’re not functional. Though if anyone out there can manage to hack one so it works, I wouldn’t be surprised.

They’re being made by Japan’s Union Creative, and are available for pre-order in sets of six from NCSX for about $27(USD). Buy a set, and share them with five of your closest friends.

Dalek the Snowman is Not a Jolly Happy Soul

Winter is in full swing in most of the country. While it was nearly 70-degrees in Texas yesterday, many Northern states are still swathed in deep snow and frigid temps. Not having snow in Texas, it’s always fun to see the winter shenanigans that people in colder climates get up to.

Not to be outdone by the Brits, a guy named Steve Marcote in Massachusetts has built his own 6-foot-tall Dalek snowman. It’s definitely cool and appears to use a plunger and a paint roller frame for arms. I wonder what he used to get all the rectangular indents done.

The Dalek snowman is impressively accurate looking for a snow creature. Now Steve needs to build a snow TARDIS to sit alongside it.

R/C Klingon Battlecruiser Ready to Take on the Enterprise

A while back, I came across a remote-controlled flying version of the Starship Enterprise. Now, the guy behind that build is showing off the next member of his flying fleet, a Klingon D7 Battlecruiser.

This awesome paper model from SG Ideas flies perfectly and would definitely give Kirk and his Starfleet crew a run for their money if they ever did battle. Here, check it out on its maiden voyage:

About the only thing this thing needs is a battle-scarred paintjob, photon torpedoes and the ability to cloak.
