Geeky Lockets: from Fiction with Love

Etsy jewelry shop ThreeTwelveTrinkets specializes in lockets. As you’d expect the pendants can be used to hold a couple of photographs or other small items. But unlike conventional lockets most of ThreeTwelveTrinkets items have geeky images in front.

The Map of Zombies Cuts up Animated Corpses into Over 350 Types

Jason Thompson – the same artist who made the excellent Dungeons & Dragons Walkthrough Maps – made what he calls The Map of Zombies. Jason drew the 25″ x 36″ poster in the style of an old medical chart. It has over 350 types of zombies, ending in specific media where that particular zombie is mentioned, such as a book, a movie, a game or a TV show.

8Bit Harmonica: The Tunes They Are a-Changin’

A few years ago we featured a harmonica crammed into a NES cartridge. YouTuber basami sentaku’s harmonica not only has a Famicom cartridge case, it produces 8-bit sound with the help of a sound chip from a NES. It also has a mode that plays the coin sound effect from Super Mario Bros. when you blow into it.

Watch basami sentaku and his friends play some chiptunes on the harmonica:

I’d love to hear non-video game music played on that. Basami sentaku-san, I’m sure you’d make a lot of chiptune fans happy if you started selling 8bit harmonicas.

Invasion of the Speaker Daleks: REVERBERATE! REVERBERATE!

This Dalek was caught invading CES 2014. He was not built on Skaro however, but by car audio company Massive Audio for display at their CES booth. I bet he caught tons of attention. It is actually a giant speaker. But still. Kill it now!

speaker dalek 620x826magnify

This Dalek measures six feet-tall and was built using 32 woofers on the bottom, a big subwoofer in the head and 5,000 watts of amplifiers. Yes, that is a powerful Dalek indeed. He plays music streamed through your smartphone or tablet. The whole creation weighs 926 pounds and cost $25,000 to make. It will be auctioned off on eBay for the BBC’s children’s charity sometime this summer, so you can potentially own this guy.

Now all we need is for the Cybermen to show up with some tweeters in their helmets.

WWE Network Headed to Game Consoles, PCs and Mobile

I haven’t watched a wrestling match since the days of André the Giant and the Hulkster back in the 80′s. I know tons of people still like the WWE and spend lots of money to see the wrestling matches in person and on pay-per-view. I’ve also seen those events on the PPV schedule and they are anything but cheap. At CES 2014, the WWE announced the pending launch of a new streaming network.

wwe network 2 620x340magnify

The network is called the WWE Network and it will be available on tablets, smartphones, PCs, Macs and game consoles starting on February 24. I think most people will watch the WWE Network on their PS3, PS4, or Xbox 360 on the big screen in the living room. WWE says that an app for the Xbox One will come later.

The service is slated to cost $9.99(USD) per month with a six month contract. For the money, you will get access to 1500 hours of archived content for on-demand streaming at launch. You will also get access to all 12 live PPV events, including WrestleMania. If you were going to watch those events anyway, you might save some money with a subscription to the WWE Network.

If you’re interested in finding out more about what the WWE Network includes, check out their FAQ here, or view a service demo here.

Doctor Who TARDIS Shower Rack Helps Whooligans Get Clean

The shower rack is one of those great inventions that give you a place to put all your shampoo and soap in the shower so you don’t have to worry about crushing your toes while your eyes are covered in soap. Not all shower racks are created equal though. This TARDIS shower rack is clearly head and shoulders above the rest.

The TARDIS shower rack is in the familiar police box blue color and has other touches that will make you feel like you are a showering Time Lord.

The two cubbies in the lower section are removable. If you are wondering why you might want to remove those lower cubbies, it’s because by taking them out you can stand tall bottles on the bottom rack. Say, doesn’t that make it bigger on the inside?

You can buy your own TARDIS shower rack for $44.99(USD) at ThinkGeek.

Disney Princesses x Star Wars

It’s about time someone made this Disney Princesses and Star Wars mash-up happen. What makes it even more fitting is the fact that Disney actually owns the Star Wars franchise now. If they decided to do a Star Wars Princess edition, then I’m sure they could pretty much make it happen, although they’ll probably annoy a huge legion of fans on both sides of the fence in the process.

DeviantArtistRalph Sevelius ran with this concept in his latest works of art which feature Disney’s princesses dressed in Star Wars- inspired garb. There’s Jedi Ariel, Sith Elsa (pretty fitting, if you ask me), Padawan Rapunzel, and slave princess Jasmine.

My favorite from is the one of Aurora frozen in Carbonite. Given that she’s the Sleeping Beauty and all, well, I think the reference is pretty appropriate.

TARDIS Themed Awesome Box is Awesomer on the Inside

The Public Library of Brookline, Massachusetts recently built themselves an Awesome Box. The box is called the Awesome Box because it is full of awesome book suggestions.

All the book titles dropped off inside the Awesome Box are compiled and posted online to help other readers who are looking for some great books to read. To make the Awesome Box a bit more awesome, the library peeps painted it to look like Doctor Who’s TARDIS. The library workers were inspired by the 50th anniversary of the classic BBC sci-fi series.

The box also has a quote from The Doctor on the side that is very fitting for a library: “You want weapons? We’re in a library! Books! The best weapons in the world!… The Greatest arsenal we could have. Arm Yourselves!”

deviantART member Brianna Garcia made these Cretacious ponies.  Despite their sharp teeth and large claws, they still look sweet and friendly. Especially when you compare them to the Cthulhu ponies.
