Mass Effect Normandy Baby Stroller: Reaper Babies Watch out!

It’s never too early to get your child into video games. You could seat them beside you as you play, dress them up like your favorite video game characters, even create flash cards that teach them about games and heroes. Another cool way is to build them an awesome stroller like this one here.

This Mass Effect baby stroller was recently spotted at GeekGirlCon ’13 and needless to say, this kid is the most popular on the playground. That stroller looks just like the Normandy and I bet it even goes faster than a normal stroller.

Any video game fan with a little kid wishes they had this to push their baby around in.

LEGO Monsters vs. Mecha Dioramas: Pacific Bricks

Hobby Inside is a South Korean professional LEGO building crew. They make multi-layered and very detailed LEGO dioramas for display. While most of their work depict cities and landscapes, they also have a handful of dioramas that feature monsters and mechas duking it out on a wrecked city, like this unmistakable nod to Pacific Rim:

I’ve also included Hobby Inside’s two other robot versus kaiju pieces in the gallery below. One features a Mothra lookalike – Hobby Inside calls it Mothle – while the other has a Godzilla lookalike called Legora and a giant robot called Insider-V (perhaps a mix of Gundam and Combattler-V?).

What I really love about Hobby Inside’s dioramas is how they use LEGO to represent motion and objects that I would never have imagined could be depicted with LEGO. Things like the vapor trail behind the Jaeger’s missiles, Mothle’s web, Legora’s flame and smoke rings and the exhaust coming out of Insider-V’s rocket fist.

If you want to see more of these dioramas, Hobby Inside has detailed breakdowns on its website. The site is in Korean, but it’s worth checking out just for the pictures.

Laser Maze Logic Game: Pew-zle

Thanks to one of my friends’ addiction to board games – we call him the chairman of the board now – I’ve rediscovered how fun they can be. While the best board games often pit you against your buddies – Game of Thrones, Cosmic Encounter, King of Tokyo – there are also a handful of awesome cooperative games, such as the infuriating Pandemic.  Here’s one that you can play with kids and adults alike, a logic game called Laser Maze.

laser maze logic game by thinkfun t 620x521magnify

Made by Thinkfun, Laser Maze is about guiding a laser beam through a series of mirrors and obstacles until they hit a specified target. The game has 60 levels – arranged from beginner to expert – depicted by cards. The cards show the initial setup of the board for that level. It also tells you which piece to play to complete the maze, but obviously it won’t tell you where to place it. If you really can’t figure out how to solve a level, check the reverse side of the level card for the solution.

Depending on your tastes, Thinkfun’s commercial may have made you think that Laser Maze is actually more dangerous or more awesome than you expected. The truth is the laser is very weak and is barely visible under normal lighting conditions. Skip to around 2:40 in the video below by Dad Does to see what the laser looks like in real life.

You can buy Laser Maze from Amazon for $29 (USD). It may seem to have a low replay value, but Amazon reviewers love the game and say that the more advanced levels are actually very tricky.

Vending Machine Delivers Scares Instead of Free Treats

What would you do if you saw a vending machine offering free treats? You’d most likely jump at the chance to grab a couple of them before the machine runs out.

So there you are, thinking that it’s your lucky day, as you reach into the machine to get your treat…

scares vending machine 620x520magnify

…but instead, begin screaming your head off when a dead-looking hand grabs yours.

I hate to break it to you, but you’ve just been had. This was probably the ghastly experience that people who chanced upon the Scares vending machine in Dublin, Ireland had. The entire set-up involved having comedian comedian Marcus Olaoire hide inside the machine and wait for unwitting victims to reach for a treat.

The entire thing was part of a Halloween publicity stunt for a snack company. Too bad they didn’t post a video of people’s reactions.

World View Space Capsule Will Take Six Friends 100,000 Feet into the Air

I’m not a huge fan of heights. It’s not necessarily that I’m afraid of being up high, I simply dislike the thought of an abrupt stop if I should fall from some undisclosed height. This is the reason I could never venture tens of thousands of feet into the air in a gigantic capsule suspended underneath a massive helium balloon. Yet, that is exactly what World View wants to offer people.

wv 5 620x407magnify

World View sees its service as a much cheaper alternative to taking a trip aboard Virgin Galactic. Virgin Galactic will take you on a trip in SpaceShipTwo up to 68 miles above the Earth’s surface for a price of about $250,000 per passenger. World View will take you to a significantly lower altitude of 100,000 feet for a not exactly cheap $75,000 ticket price.

wv 1 300x250
wv 2 300x250
wv 3 300x250
wv 4 300x250

The company plans to use a large capsule connected to the bottom of a massive helium balloon. 100,000 feet isn’t high enough for passengers to experience weightlessness, but World View says it’s all about the view. The capsule could stay aloft for hours or even days for scientists performing experiments. After each mission, the capsule will be gently returned to Earth using a large parachute.

World View has announced its service as the FAA is set to make a public determination on its craft. The FAA believes that the capsule used by World View will be classified as the spacecraft and will have to meet space safety standards. The capsule will hold six passengers and two pilots.

Send Messages Hidden in Encrypted Images with Crypstagram

If you need to send someone a message but have to be discrete about it, then you might want to give Crypstagram a shot. It’s an image sharing site does more than just provide you with a means to share images with other people.

That’s because the image has to go through their system first before it’s ready for sharing.

Crypstagrammagnify

What Crypstagram is encrypt your image by embedding a message into it. When I say “embed,” I do mean embed because it doesn’t just add text onto your image as an overlay or caption. It actually incorporates your message into the image and distorts it in the process.

Just select the image you want to use, upload it to the site, and add your message. Once it’s encrypted, you’ll end up with a surreal, glitched out image. You can then choose to share it or download it to your computer so you can email it to the recipient for decryption – which can only be achieved if you have the proper password.

Try it out for yourself here.

Own Your Own $23,000 Mini Ridable Train

Train enthusiasts who want something larger than a Lionel train set, but not so large that you have to buy real estate to lay down your track may want to consider this awesome ridable train set. With this cool toy, you can go for a ride anytime you want and even make some money on the side offering kids some awesome choo-choo rides. It should pay for its $23,000 tab in no time.
lawn train 1 620x401magnify

This train is based on the classic narrow-gauge 2-6-0 Baldwin Mogul from the late 19th century and is powered by four 250-watt, 24-volt DC motors. That will give you enough power to generate enough power to haul up to 1,600 lbs. at a 3% grade.

As for the actual railroad, you get 228′ of 7 1/2″-gauge track, enough to create a 60′ x 80′ oval. It even has an integrated 50-watt sound system for realistic train sounds. All aboard!

eBookmark Bridges eBooks and Real Books

Like many of us, Terry Burton and Jinna Kim find themselves witnessing – and contributing to – the slow but inevitable death of paper books. The husband and wife team decided to make a functional artwork that bridges the gap between eBooks and their ancestors. Their eBookmark not only lets you save a book page, it also lets you specify the paragraph where you stopped. How does it work? With a minimalist touch interface, of course.

ebookmark by 7 electrons 620x413magnify

The eBookmark has a balsa wood body. Inside are LEDs, a touch-sensitive strip, a battery and an Atmel 8-bit processor. It also has a switch up top for pointing out either the left or right page and can be extended to accommodate larger books.

I know that Terry and Jinna made the eBookmark as an artistic statement, but it would’ve been nicer if it had a motion sensor that caused the LEDs to turn on only when the book is opened. If you’re actually looking for a more precise bookmark, check out this bookmark by Fred & Friends.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Teaser Shows Every Doc to Ever Wield the Sonic Screwdriver

If you’re a fan of the BBC science-fiction series Doctor Who you probably know that the series has been on the air for 50 years. That’s a long time for any television show to be on the air and I imagine much of the success comes from the premise in the series allowing the actor who plays the Doctor to be replaced on a whim. If viewers find the current Doctor boring, you simply kill him off and replace him.

who11magnify

I mentioned not long ago that the BBC had found some very early episodes from the franchise that were believed to have been lost and planned to show those episodes again. While we wait for those episodes, BBC will be airing a special 75 min. long episode called The Day of the Doctor to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the show. That episode is set to air on November 23 and in anticipation the BBC has released a teaser trailer.

Before you get too excited, you need to be aware that the teaser trailer has no footage at all from the special anniversary episode. Rather, the teaser shows every actor that has ever played Doctor Who all the way back to the beginning of the series. The trailer is also the first time that original Timelord William Hartnell has ever been seen in high-definition and color.

Gallery of Superhero Squirrels is Just Super

Squirrels might be tiny, but they can be huge pests sometimes. However, for people who don’t live in countries where they’re commonly spotted, they’re among the most adorable mammals ever. Although they can be destructive sometimes, they’re also heroes in their own little way. For example, they’re responsible for planting lots of trees in various areas, as they often forget where they buried their acorns.

Depicting them in a totally different light is deviantArt artist Santiago Perez.

superhero squirrels 1 620x709magnify

His Photoshopped creations don’t just depict squirrels as mere heroes. They’re superheroes, and some of the biggest ones yet. His gallery features the tiny creatures shopped to make them look like they’ve donned the costume of Spider-Man, Iron Man, and Batman. In the case of the Hulk, I’d say he decked out the squirrel in the Hulk’s typical non-costume.

And while he’s not really a superhero, my favorite from the bunch is Yoda Squirrel. Check out the complete series over on Santiago’s DeviantArt page. Which one’s your favorite?
