Jurassic Park Meets Dr. Seuss: Seusstastic Park

Action figure modder Sillof loves to remake popular characters by casting them in the style of different eras or genres. But when the owners of the Best Western Denver Southwest hotel approached him last Spring, they wanted him to combine two popular franchises. But he stepped up to the challenge and delivered. Welcome to Seusstastic Park!

The hotel owners asked Sillof to mashup Jurassic Park with Dr. Seuss because they were giving their business a dinosaur-themed makeover. Also because they just love Dr. Seuss. Sillof came up with Catahaturuses, a Lorceritax, Dilos, Yellosneechtors, and the most terrifying creature of them all, the Grinchasaurus rex. He also came up with a Seuss-ified version of the Jurassic Park gate and car.

But that’s not all. In true Dr. Seuss fashion, the hotel owners provided Sillof with the first and last stanzas of a poem about Seusstastic Park, and Sillof filled in the rest of the poem. You can read the poem on Sillof’s website. Sillof said he had fun with the project and is thrilled with how it turned out. He also said that the hotel owners may auction off the figures for charity, so keep an eye out on the Best Western Facebook page if you want to own a piece of Seusstastic Park.

Travel Boy Game Boy Luggage: Pack Your Tetris Blocks in Style

The Game Boy was an amazing portable gaming system back in the day. Who cares if it started off with a lack of color? We could play Mario and Zelda games anywhere. Your luggage goes with you everywhere too, so why not have some luggage that looks just like a Game Boy?

You can even put your Game Boy (and your entire cartridge library) inside. This hard-shelled suitcase meets the carry-on requirements of most airports. and is a super geeky way to travel. It’s also super lightweight at just 7 lbs, and has four oversized casters that can turn 360 degrees.

It is only $69.99(USD) from ThinkGeek. Just like you did with your Game Boy back in the day, never leave home without it.

Awesome Street Art That’s Only Visible When It Rains

You might have heard of NeverWet when it was first launched. It’s basically a waterproofing spray that repels liquids so you can keep your stuff dry.

That’s the spray’s intended use, but Home Depot community members Nathan Sharratt and Dana0814 came up with an extremely creative way to use it.

Armed with stencils and a couple of cans of NeverWet, they set out to create street art while taking full advantage of the spray’s hydrophobic qualities. Their art only appears when it rains, because it’s the only part of the street that stays dry during a downpour.

Wristwatch Shaped Post-it Notes Remind You It’s Time to Do Stuff

I’m a rather forgetful person. If it’s not written down the chances of me remembering to do it are pretty slim. That means I have a bunch of Post-it notes stuck all around my office to remind me of things that I have to do. The problem is if I’m not in the office to look at those Post-it sticky notes, I still forget.

That’s where these PA-Design’s wristwatch Post-it notes would come in. These things have sticky ends and you can write your own notes on the watch shaped paper. You can then wrap it around your wrist and stick the ends together so you have the reminder with you wherever you go.

These things are quite a bit more expensive than your normal pad of Post-it notes about $13(USD) per pack of 100 notes. The pad measures 8.25 x 1.5 x 0.4-inches. The only downside to these is that they appear to be out of stock on Amazon right now – though it looks like can still order them direct from PA-Design here.

Smell Like Breakfast: Toast Perfume

Nothing smells more inviting in the morning than toast. If you want to conjure up images of hot toast and warm fuzzy feelings associated with a full stomach in the morning whenever someone comes close, then you might want to grab a bottle of the Federation of Bakers’ Eau de Toast.

It’s a toast-scented perfume that’ll give you the delicious scent of perfectly-toasted bread with every spritz.

Models at the London Fashion Week will be wearing the scent during the event. You’d have to wonder, though, if what they’ll be wearing has anything to do with breakfast or food, because that’s probably what everyone at the show will be thinking of once they get a whiff of this.

If you’re over 18 years old and live in the UK, Isle of Man, or Channel Islands, then you might have been able to score a free sample of the stuff before they ran out. For the rest of us who don’t live there, then we can only imagine the smell of this new scent. Obviously it’s pretty easy to imagine.

All the Hats in Team Fortress 2 in One Image: Hats off to the Artist

Artist and webcomic creator Ashley Lange embarked on the challenge of a lifetime and emerged victorious. She drew all of the hats in Team Fortress 2 in one image. She didn’t include the hatless headgear and the miscellaneous items that can be considered hats, but honestly not even Gabe Newell can complain about her madness. I mean dedication. Thanks to Ashley, when the iPhone 9 comes out TF2 fans will already have a wallpaper for it.

every hat in team fortress 2 by ashley langemagnify

Ashley used Photoshop CS3 and a Cintiq pen display to create the drawing. She almost gave up on the project because Valve kept coming up with new hats as she was working on the drawing. Fortunately she outpaced the company. The video below is a time-lapse of her drawing; the hatness madness starts at around 3:30.

For her next feat, perhaps Ashley should draw Gordon Freeman. Fighting all of Suikoden’s 108 Stars of Destiny. Who each have all of the Pokémon. Which are each wearing all of the Team Fortress 2 hats.

Childhood Home of Steve Jobs Could Become a Historical Site

The modest ranch home pictured below is the location where Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak started Apple Computer and built the first computers to bear the company name. It could soon become a protected historical site as well.

jobshome

The unassuming suburban home is located in Los Altos, California and the seven-member Los Altos Historical Commission is now planning a historical property evaluation for the property. The home is located at 2066 Crist Drive in Los Altos, California and if turned into a historic property it would have to be preserved in perpetuity.

Jobs moved to the home when he was in seventh grade along with his foster parents and lived there through high school. The attached garage is where the first fifty Apple 1 computers were built. The home doesn’t look like it would be very expensive, but the three bedroom, two bath house, which was constructed in 1952, still manages to have a value of about $1.5 million according to the website Zillow, thanks to the ridiculously inflated real estate prices in the area.

Kinect-based Computer Orchestra Uses Computers as Musicians: You Are the Conductor

Nowadays it’s quite possible to create and play music live using a computer. You can also use MIDI controllers to make it easier for you to interact with music software and audio files. However, pushing keys and fiddling with knobs isn’t intuitive or fun to watch. Computer Orchestra manages to be both by letting you be a conductor of computers.

computer orchestra by Simon de Diesbach Jonas Lacote Laura Perrenoudmagnify

Computer Orchestra was made by three students from the art and design university ECAL. Simon de Diesbach, Jonas Lacôte and Laura Perrenoud designed it to be a crowdsourcing interface for uploading samples and then triggering them on different computers using simple hand gestures.

The idea is that you’ll upload samples to or download samples from a website, then you’ll assign those samples to your “musicians” – in this case, the members of the orchestra are all laptops. Using a Wi-Fi connection, a Kinect sensor, a programming language called Processing and the software library called SimpleOpenNI, you can then trigger those computers to play by waving your hands towards them. There also seems to be other gestures that vary the way the computers play the samples.

I know it’s very impractical, but it also seems like a lot of fun. Perhaps it’s possible to make a simpler version of this with a Leap controller and an array of color or light sensors. Using one laptop per sample seems like overkill, although it’s a sight to behold.
