DIY Magnetic Crocheted Katamari is Very Attractive

Flickr user/Sprite Stitcher/Princess of All Cosmos Mara Cheng made a crocheted katamari that works a bit like its videogame counterpart, and she did it the Jesse Pinkman way: with magnets. Yeah, Science!

magnetic crocheted katamari by mara cheng

Actually Mara made it the Amy Shimel way. Amy designed the pattern back in 2007, way before Jesse and Walt needed magnets. Amy’s design calls for 28 0.75″ round magnets stuffed inside the ball along with Poly-Fil. Amy says you have to crochet the main body as tight as you can so that the Katamari won’t be deformed by the weight of the magnets. Roll to Amy’s website for the instructions.

It’s a match made in gluten-free heaven every time – if you find your match on Glutenfree Singles, that is.

There’s no guarantee that you’ll stay together all throughout each other’s lifetimes, but at least you can avoid one problem most gluten intolerant people run into on first dates: incompatible diets.

Gluten Free Dating

It seems like a trivial thing, but it’s not so trivial if you have strict diet requirements because you have a health problem. Like gluten intolerance, for example.

Whether you have celiac disease, are gluten intolerant or choose to be gluten free for health reasons, we welcome you to GlutenfreeSingles, a website committed to building a national and global community for those who are gluten free.

Living a gluten-free life can be challenging, especially in a world where gluten-soaked foods are just about everywhere. At GlutenfreeSingles, you are not alone!

The site boasts that it’s a dating and networking site so “you never have to feel alone, awkward, or [like] a burger because you are gluten-free.” The world is full of other gluten-free-diet-loving people, and this site more or less promises to help you find your match.

Swing Anywhere with the Door Frame Swing

Don’t have a playground nearby? No backyard? Not even a tree that you can attach a tire and rope to? Well, that’s downright sad, but dry those eyes. This door frame swing is here to help.
indoor swing
The indoor door frame swing can be set up on most door frames to give your kid hours of fun. I’m not sure how safe it is, but they say it holds “in excess of 100 lbs.” Your kid may end up on the floor a few times, but that’s a small price to pay for bringing the playground indoors, right?

It will cost you $55.99(USD) from Amazon. Just watch it as you walk around your home. You kid might slam into you and knock you down the stairs on his upswing.

Ruilbank Benches Offer Free Reading for Passersby

Benches are just benches, until a huge red clip is attached to one end of it. Then it becomes a Ruilbank, which is Dutch for “barter bench.”

Essentially, they’re there to hold some reading material in place. Whether it’s a book or a magazine or a newspaper, this trusty red clip will keep it in place.

Reading Bench

It’s a project by Pivot Creative to get people reading more – and to pass on good reads. From July 28th to September 28th, nine locations areas around Amsterdam will have benches supplied with different reading material from various sponsors, including newspaper Het Parool and the city’s public library.

Passersby are free to read, take, or barter the reading material with something else when they come across it.

Wouldn’t it be fun if someone did a similar thing on our side of the planet?

Carrot Alarm Clock for iOS: Now You’re Waking with GLaDOS

There are alarm clocks that wake you gently, and there are others that torture you to get you out of bed. The Carrot Alarm iOS app on the other hand will make you wake up so you can hang out with a GLaDOS clone. How GLaDOS-y is Carrot? She says she kills a kitten everytime you hit the snooze button. I’m not kidding. I hope she is.

Carrot’s clock is easy to use. It’s the alarm part that makes her special. And by special I mean evil. After greeting you with her cold voice, she’ll make you play a minigame before she turns the alarm off. But she has a good side too. As you use Carrot, you earn points that unlock additional sound bites and music.

Carrot is lurking at the iTunes App Store. Pay $0.99 (USD) to let her invade your life.

Chairigami Refoldable Cardboard Furniture: Just Unfold and Use

Furniture doesn’t get any simpler than this.

These pieces of refoldable cardboard furniture are produced by Chairigami, which was founded by Zach Rotholz using nothing but $5,000 of his bar mitzvah money as capital.

Refoldable Cardboard Furniture The concept is simple: the furniture is shipped to you in a box, like most other furniture, but when you won’t find typical furniture inside, though. Instead, you’ll find more cardboard inside, although of a tougher variety, as Chairigami is made from triple-wall cardboard.

Refoldable Cardboard Furniture1

Chairigamis are basically recyclable, lightweight, and biodegradable pieces of furniture. They’re flat-packed when shipped, so they’re not bulky at all. They’re easy to assemble, too, so you don’t have to worry about that part.

Rotholz explains: “It was very grassroots. I tested and iterated as I went. A lot of the furniture ideas came from the website. People would come on the web page and give their suggestions.”

Chairigami comes in a variety of forms, ranging from chairs, to tables, to shelving, and is sold online and at the Chairigami store in Connecticut.
