Leap Sensor Virtual Drum Machine: AirBeats

Earlier this year we saw AirHarp, a virtual harp that uses the Leap gesture controller, letting the user make music by playing an imaginary harp. The developer behind the AirHarp recently introduced a similar program but for a more popular instrument. The AirBeats will actually make air drummers productive. Or at least expose them for the frauds they are.

The AirBeats is very intuitive to use. The instruments you’ve chosen are displayed on the screen. All you have to do is tap in midair as if those instruments were arranged in front of you. You can also record and replace instruments just by pointing and swiping in midair. It is incredibly responsive, whether you use your hands or a pair of drumsticks or even pencils.

Developer Handwavy said AirBeats will be available on Airspace – that’s Leap’s app store – on July 22, 2013. I love how it’s a more physical way of making digital music. Maybe artists can even use it live so their audience can “play” along with them.

How to Train Your Dragon… To Be a Lamp That Breathes Fire

If you have watched How to Train You Dragon – and who hasn’t? – then you already know that the Night Fury dragon is pretty cool. Well, he just got cooler. How about the Night Fury dragon in your room as a lamp that breathes fire?
night fury
I thought that would get your attention. Crafter Undead-geologist created this desktop lamp. It looks neat, yes, but the best part is that it actually breathes fire from it’s mouth instead of using a lightbulb. Though its fuel source is ethyl alcohol, not dragon’s breath.

Don’t drain your dragon though. When you are done using the lamp, just cap the flame with a mini viking helmet. Perfect.

iFetch Automatic Ball Launcher: Your Best Friend’s New Best Friend

Because dogs don’t have to deal with work, other people and taking care of dogs, you can’t always match your pet’s enthusiasm and energy. But you can’t just leave your buddy hanging right? That’s why Grant and Denny Hamill invented the iFetch. Contrary to its name, this device throws balls for pets to fetch. And as far as some dogs are concerned, that’s all you’re good for anyway.

TARDIS Prime Transformer Toy: Phone Booth in Disguise

Remember Jason Casteel’s cool Transfomers-meets-Doctor Who T-shirt? Thingiverse member Andrew Lindsey not only remembers it, he was inspired by it to make a 3D printed toy. Behold, TARDIS Prime in 3D! Vworp Vworp!

Andrew had to deviate from Jason’s drawing in order to make the toy transformable from a phone booth to a robot and vice-versa. At least he still has the red bow tie.

Andrew says he’s not fully satisfied with the toy. For one thing, the toy needs a lot of plastic to be printed, and it’s made of more than 70 parts. Also, it can’t stand on its own because it’s too top-heavy. I guess you could say that it’s… wibbly wobbly. YEEEEAA– Sorry. Andrew is thinking of designing a smaller version of the toy, but you can already print G1 TARDIS Prime if you want. Just download the files from Andrew’s Thingiverse page.

The Candy You Drink Straight from the Toilet

You probably wouldn’t let your dog drink out of your toilet, but did you know that there are actually people out there who would eat out of a toilet?

Not out of a regular toilet, of course, but out of the Moko Moko Mokoletto. If you say it again and again fast enough, it’s almost like a tongue twister…

Bubbly Japanese Toilet Candy

Anyway, the Moko Moko is actually a toilet-themed candy from Japan, where most awesome, weird, and unusual things seem to orginate.

The pack comes with a plastic toilet and a pack of candy. The miniature toilet is first assembled, and then the flavored candy powder is added to the toilet’s tank with water in order to activate it. You, the candy eater, are then supposed to sip the bubbly candy concoction from the toilet. Yum.

The clip above was posted by RRcherrypie, who describes the experience on his blog (translated): “Idea of the product is great, taste is OK. Made of toilet put the water from the tank actually is good. Place in Bathroom own Dollhouse of (1/12 scale). Chloro to look at the toilet was clogged …. Head, I keep clean …!”

There are four different colors of miniature toilets to choose from. Moko Moko product information is available here.

Jenga Space Invaders Edition: Increase Speed and Fall Over

Just when I thought there were no more ways you could play Jenga, along comes another amusing mashup of the brick-stacking game with a classic video game.

jenga space invaders 1

This time, we have USAOpoly’s Jenga Space Invaders Collectors Edition. This new version of Jenga features stackable rows of those pesky invaders. The rules are different than standard Jenga, in that you’re trying to remove blocks as spins of the wheel determine things like the rate at which the invaders are dropping down and increasing speed. The objective is to have your invader descend from the top of the tower to get as close to the bottom as possible without knocking it over.

Jenga Space Invaders edition is coming out this July 30th, and can be pre-ordered from Midtown Comics for $22.49(USD).

A Table for All Occasions

There’s a perpetual shortage of space in every home. That’s why multi-functional furniture pieces like the table that Daniel Liss designed have a huge inherent demand – because they let you do more and take on more functions in a singular piece.

transforming table 1

First of all, the table is a work desk for two. It’s got generous surface space for laptops, notebooks, lamps, pen holders, and other stuff people often have lying around on their desk when they’re working. There’s a divider in the middle to separate the two different work stations, and each side has a drawer for extra storage.

transforming table 2

When the day is done and it’s time to call it a night, the table can be quickly and easily transformed into a dining table that can accommodate up to six people. After the dishes have been cleared, you can set it up into the dual work stations again to prepare for the next day.

transforming table 3

It’s a clean and ingenious design that I’m sure a lot of people will find useful. The tables aren’t being commercially produced or sold yet, but hopefully they will be soon.

Find ‘Hot Local Cats’ In Your Area With the Adult Cat Finder

Looking for an adult friend in your area? No? Yeah, neither am I, but that’s not going to stop those annoying ads from popping up on your screen without warning when you’re visiting certain websites.

Injecting a lot of humor and making fun of these websites is the Adult Cat Finder.

adult cat finder 1

It might have a slightly alarming name that might put you off, but don’t let its name fool you. In fact, I would suggest that you take it quite literally, because this little “widget” will find you hot local cats in your area.

Check out the Adult Cat Finder yourself and you’ll see what I’m talking about.

The “service” was created by Fountain LA and it puts Kitten on a Keyboard in the spotlight.

The LEGO Movie Teaser Trailer Released: A Brickbuster Motion Picture

If you’ve been reading Technabob for any length of time, you probably know that we’re huge fans of LEGO and LEGO paraphernalia. Now, it turns out that Hollywood is jumping onto the LEGO bandwagon with the upcoming release of The LEGO Movie.

lego movie

It’s the first full-length flick based on the LEGO universe, and is being directed by the team behind Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs and the 21 Jump Street Movie. It actually looks pretty amusing from the first teaser trailer that was just released earlier this evening…

While it may look like stop-motion from the trailer above, it’s actually all CGI, which is a little bit disappointing, but I have to say they did a good job recreating the look of hand-animated minifigs, which have been such a popular thing on YouTube over the years.

The movie follows the story of Emmet, a LEGO minifig who finds himself in the unlikely position of being mistaken as the most extraordinary person in the land of LEGO, and must help save the world from an evil tyrant. In addition to a cast of thousands of minifigs, the movie stars Will Ferrell, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Arnett, Nick Offerman, Liam Neeson and Morgan Freeman, and is expected to snap together in time for a February 2014 release.
