DIY Sound Effects Suit Jacket: *Applause*

A young man named Kenneth Guglielmino is one step closer to living in a 90s sitcom. He hacked together a suit jacket that emits cliché audience reactions at the push of a button.

sound effects suit jacket by Kenneth Guglielmino

Kenneth packed an Arduino, an Adafruit Wave Shield and a small speaker into a suit jacket. I’m not sure what he used as a controller or if he made one from scratch, just that he can change samples and switch between sound banks using different buttons. The sound effects he installed include a booing sound, an awwww sound, an air horn and of course the ol’ canned laughter.

Great job, Kenneth. Now you just have to invent robot co-stars that embody various stereotypes and you’re all set!

USB Train Hubs: Choo-Choo Connectivity

Even if you don’t like trains as much as this guy… or even this guy… you still might like to collect railroad swag. Here’s something you probably don’t have in your collection already – USB hubs shaped like tiny trains.

Sprire’s SP-K480 and SP-S480 trains replicate old school and modern trains, but in this case the windows have been replaced with USB ports.

The train cars can even be separated slightly (though not completely detached), and when not in use, the USB cable can be tucked underneath the train’s tiny engine.

Oh, and the best thing… They come with LED Righting…

No, I didn’t make that up. Alas, they’re only available in Korea at present, but if you’re willing to brave the language barrier, you might be able to pick them up at the Early Adopter Shop for 11,000 KRW (~$10 USD) each.

Official Star Wars iPhone 5 Cases: Episode II

PowerA’s officially licensed Star Wars iPhone 4/4S cases must have been a blockbuster, because this year the company is striking back with iPhone 5 variants of the cases.

All previous designs remain unchanged. You can still join the Dark Side of iPhone cases with the Darth Vader case, give your phone a shiny metal ass with the C-3PO case, turn your iPhone into a Droid with the R2-D2 case and have a huggable device with the Chewbacca case.

You can order the cases from Firebox for £20 (~$31 USD) or directly from PowerA for $35. Yes, that means the Chewie case is the best deal,  what with all that awesome fur.

Vadering is the New Planking: AKA Your Lack of Photoshop is Disturbing

Remember when planking went viral and your social networks just exploded with pictures of people lying flat on their faces in all sorts of weird locations? Planking isn’t so hot anymore nowadays, although there’s a new photo meme that’s taking its place. It’s called Vadering, and it’s just as crazy but tons more ghastly in a geeky sort of way.

vadering

I think you can tell what it’s inspired from based on the name alone. “Vadering” is basically a meme where people do Darth Vader’s infamous force choke on others. Because no human has the powers that Darth Vader possesses, we must all resort to Photoshop to actually perform this powerful Force chokehold.

Guy Turns His Cubicle into a Castle, Learns the Princess is in Another One

You can still feel like King of your castle, even when you’re stuck at work. Just do what this guy did, who turned his office cubicle into a castle. All it took was a little cardboard, a Sharpie or two, and some creativity.
cubicle castle
It has everything a modern cubicle castle needs. There’s the DirectTV Genie girl, who I guess represents the Princess he wishes he had, a blimp and even a drawbridge that is guarded by a paper shredder. Though the door appears large enough to only admit someone the size of Tyrion Lannister.

It even has a little window so that he can look out upon his kingdom when not working. All it needs is a moat, and he’ll be all set.

Chocolate Meteorites Fill that Crater in Your Stomach

After you’re done devouring your planetary chocolates, all that remains are meteorites. At least that’s how I think the guys at L’eclat chocolates came up with these chocolate meteorite candies.

chocolate meteorites 1

Each of these candies is made to look like a specific meteorite, such as the Henbury, the Orgueil or the Pallsovka. They even have one called the Tatahouine, named after the meteorite that fell in the Tunisian desert that served as the set for Tatooine in Star Wars. Instead of tasting like burnt up space rocks, these come in flavors like white chocolate with grapefruit and earl grey tea, and bitter chocolate with hazelnut praline.

A set of eight meteorite chocolates sells for ¥3000 (~$30 USD) in Japan, but check with White Rabbit Express for a quote to get them shipped stateside.

I’m sure Mega Man fans already know – and pre-ordered – about the old school Mega Man statue that Capcom unveiled for the Blue Bomber’s 25th anniversary. But if you’d rather be Mega Man, go grab Capcom Japan’s limited edition Mega Buster and Helmet set.

Zombie Head Ice Cream Cups and Beer Mugs: Fancy a Cup o’ Brains?

Zombie fans, check out these fun Zombie head ice cream cups and beer mugs. The ice cream cups allow you to eat their cool chilled brains instead of them eating ours.

While the ice cream bowls are shallow so you can see the ice cream brains sticking out. The beer mugs look pretty awesome too, with hatchets and pistols and stuff stabbed through their heads, doubling as handles.

Any zombie fan would love to have these in their kitchen and display them proudly.

If you like them, you can help fund the project. A pledge of £15 (~$23 USD) will get you a single zombie ice cream cup or mug. And for those of you who prefer Cthulhu to zombies, you can go for the Lovecraftian version for £20 (~$31 USD). The project is already well on its way to reaching its £15,000 (~$23,000 USD) goal and still has 18 days to go.

AT-AT Walker Helps 4-Year-Old Patient Recover, Walks Right into Our Hearts

Nobody likes to see children struck down by illness. Kids are innocent and don’t deserve things like that. It is enough to break your heart. But here is an uplifting story with a geeky twist. Stephanie Kaloi’s 4-year-old son recently went through surgery and came home with his knees immobilized, so he needed a walker.
walker
A friend suggested that it looked a bit like an AT-AT. The rest, as they say is history. Comic artist Ben Dewey volunteered his skills. As a result, the walker now has AT-AT legs and a head. It even has a control panel featuring Darth Vader himself.

walker2
So instead of being sad, this kid “walked all around our living room firing lasers at us for nearly an hour without once being scared that the walker would cause him pain.” If that doesn’t make you smile, you have a heart of stone, my friends. He will need the walker for another three weeks, but will surely be very happy about it.

This story gets better. The walker ended up on Reddit’s Star Wars subreddit, which is no surprise. William Shatner himself chimed in by saying, “Very clever! I bet he loved it!” The Captain of the Star Trek universe approves! So now it is officially a crossover story.

MonkeyOh Helps Charge Your Smartphone and Clears Cord Clutter

If you’re in the market for a new device to help keep your iPhone or other smartphone charged up and ready to use, the MonkeyOh is a cute and offbeat way to do this. The device looks like a monkey with a USB port in his mouth. It has little feet and hands that secure smartphones of varying sizes and holds them near your outlet.

monkeyoh

You can also wrap the excess charge cord that comes with your smartphone around the base of the holder near the outlet. The flexible monkey arms are designed to secure iPhones and other devices with or without cases. One of the best things about this smartphone holder and charger is that it sticks the phone out from the outlet far enough that you can use the second outlet for other needs. MonkeyOh also works as a phone stand in either landscape or portrait modes.

The MonkeyOh does require the use of the new generation small Apple power adapter. You can charge other smartphones as long as you have the Apple power adapter by simply plugging in your USB charging cable. MonkeyOh is on Kickstarter right now seeking the funds to come to market. A pledge of $15(USD) by April 18th will get you one of the first MonkeyOhs, with estimated shipping this July.
