Stormtrooper Easter Bunny Costume: The Empire Hops Back

Check out this awesome Stormtrooper Easter bunny. I say it’s about time we changed the whole Easter bunny thing and I can’t think of anything better than a Bunnytrooper.

bunnytrooper stormtrooper

Wait, that’s no moon under his arm. It’s an egg-shaped space station! Forget chocolate and your dumb Easter cards. Forget all that fake plastic grass and Easter egg hunts. Let’s make Easter all about Star Wars toys and the almighty Stormtrooper bunny can be our mascot. We all need one more reason to dress up in our Star Wars garb.

Plus, a Bunnytrooper is just scary enough to scare kids into doing all of their chores and behaving. Let’s make this happen people. I’m having an Imperial Easter this year.

Smart Herb Garden Needs No Sun or Soil

I’m not a big fan of growing stuff, mostly because I kill pretty much everything I’ve ever plant. I always water them too much or too little and eventually my plants turn dead and dry or bloated and moldy. I think I might be able to grow something using the Smart Herb Garden though.

shg

This thing uses modern technology to grow herbs and a few vegetables right in your kitchen. You don’t have to remember to move it to the sun every now and then because it has its own LED growing lamp. All you have to do is snap in the your plant cartridges, fill the water reservoir, and the Smart Herb Garden does all the heavy lifting for you.

It doesn’t even use dirt, it has some sort of nanotech material specifically engineered to supply the plant roots with just the right amount of oxygen, water, and nutrients. The initial set comes with 3 plant cartridges: basil, lemon balm and thyme, but they plan on offering more plants down the road.

A pledge of $39(USD) or more over on Kickstarter will get you your very own smart garden by September, 2013.

DIY Enderman Plushie: Make Him with Your Eyes Closed

Last month we featured a stuffed doll that you’ll always want to look at. Instructables member MasamuneX on the other hand made a doll that you wouldn’t want to keep in your sights. It’s a plushie of Minecraft’s terrifying Enderman. Quick! To the second paragraph!

minecraft enderman plushie by masamunex

Are you all still with me? Don’t look back! Your friend is lost. I’m sorry. MasamuneX used black velour, Poly-Fil fiber and different colored ribbons to make this abominable creature. Either that or it just teleported into existence. Speaking of teleporting –

Ack! It’s right above you! Quick, grab some water!

minecraft enderman plushie by masamunex 3

It’s got me on its sights. I don’t have long, go to MasamuneX’s Instructables page and fight Enderman with Enderman. Obviously you’re obligated to make a pair of them.

AT-AT Walker Loft Bed for Hothy Dreams

I would sleep like a Jedi in this awesome AT-AT bed, while dreaming about laying waste to Hoth. Pew, Pew, Pew! Take that rebel scum! What’s that? Pesky Snowspeeders? They are nothing. Wait what? What’s that cable. The legs are all wobbly. We’re going down! Whew! It was only a dream. An amazing dream in an amazing bed!

This giant AT-AT loft bed is the best bed ever. Some lucky kid is smiling every night as he lays down inside of this thing.

I don’t know who the parents are that built this awesome thing, but I am kidnapping them and taking them home. I’ve already bought the supplies. Now work, damn you.

GoldenEye 007 Remote Mine Replica: Q Approved

This life-size replica of James Bond’s remote mine from GoldenEye 007 was made by Thingiverse member Quiche, ComradeQuiche. The mine has blinking LEDs that you can toggle on and off as well as magnets so you can mount it just like its counterpart, fictional counterpart.

In his original guide, which he posted on Instructables a couple of years ago, Comradequiche used the base of an old joystick as the mine’s case. He did that to make his replica more accurate – the remote mine prop used in the movie GoldenEye was also partly made of an old PC joystick. But because the joystick is no longer in production, Comradequiche decided to make a 3D template for the mine’s housing.

Here’s a quick demo of the replica:

Head to ComradeQuiche’s Thingiverse page for his updated guide as well as the files you need to print the case. If you don’t have access to a 3D printer, you can also buy the 3D printed components from ComradeQuiche. He’s not selling a fully assembled unit though.

Retro Video Game Cartridge Pillows Perfect for Making a NESt in Your Famicom Room

I’ve got a confession to make to my wife. Without her approval, I’ve been gradually transforming our basement media room into a shrine to all things geeky – with a decided tilt towards retro video games. I now know what pillows I must purchase for the couch. As a matter of fact, I just paid for them as I write this.

retro nes pillows 1

These awesome retro pillows look like classic NES game cartridges – though they feature some non-existent games on them – presumably because nobody wanted to pay Nintendo some exorbitant licensing fee. At least I don’t remember playing Unicorn’s Revenge or Lava Jump on my old 8-bit system. But then again, my brain might have been deprived of oxygen from blowing on all of those cartridges.

The pillows are made from polyester, and they measure 14″ x 12″ x 3.5″ each, which makes them too big to cram into your console, but much more comfortable than sitting on a stack of actual cartridges.

You can order a pair of the Retro Video Game Pillows over at ThinkGeek for $34.99(USD). Now when can I have some Atari 2600 cartridge pillows?

Quadcopter Fleet Forms Starfleet Insignia in London Sky

No, that is not a message sent from the future by James T. Kirk, warning us to treat the whales nicely. You’re looking at 30 lit quadcopter robots forming a Starfleet insignia in the night sky above London, just because they can.

starfleet london quadcopters

I don’t care that it is a publicity stunt. This is a great use of robots. The promotional event for the new Trek movie coincided with Saturday night’s Earth Hour, which was meant to encourage people to take one hour and to conserve electricity.

It’s totally okay to use electricity to make robots form a Federation symbol while others save it. I’m cool with that. It was an amazing once in a lifetime geek event. I wish I could have seen this up close and personal, as I’m sure the video doesn’t do it justice.

Precision R/C Airplane Dances to Classical Music in Flight

I’m pretty sure you’ve never seen an R/C plane fly like this one does. That’s because it is one of a kind. This plane dances and does an amazing ballet in the air thanks to user-edited software and an ultra-light fuselage.

rc plane

Dutch R/C plane enthusiast Nando Te Riele wanted an airplane that was responsive enough to coordinate its movements with music. Mission accomplished. Check out the video to see how graceful this thing is as it dances and twirls without a care in the world.  It is really amazing to watch.

Riele installed lights on the wings to augment the plane’s graceful movements. I think we have hit upon a new geeky form of allet that I would actually pay to see. The performance took place at this year’s Electric Indoor Masters meeting, an event that showcases some of the best indoor R/C plane pilots in the world.

Awesome Zombie Cake: If I New You Were Comin’, I’d Have Baked a Brain

Zombies crave brains, but we humans crave sugary treats like cakes. For Technabob readers, the geekier the better. This amazingly gory and gross zombie cake was made from Rice Krispie Treats.

zombie cake
The great thing about a zombie cake is that the longer it sits, the more authentic it looks as it rots just like a real zombie. Of course, you wouldn’t want to eat it after that. But even in its pictured state, it looks super yummy.

zombie cake 2

This zombie was on display for the Portland Women’s Show and was made by the Artisan Cake Company back in October. The detail is amazing and even it has Jell-O brains. There’s always room for Jell-O brains, of course.

iEqualizer iPhone 5 Case: To Groove and Protect

Here’s a case for the iPhone 5 that will have you looking at the back of your phone as much as the front. The iEqualizer has a built-in meter like the one you’d find on a graphic equalizer.

iequalizer for iphone 5

It works just like the T-shirt version and the DIY necktie we saw a while back. Its electroluminescent panel will react to nearby sounds, though it’s not exactly an accurate audio meter.

The case requires two CR2032 batteries. It would’ve been more convenient if it had a rechargeable battery instead, but at least it won’t draw power from the iPhone 5′s  barely adequate battery. The iEqualizer is also sensible enough to have a power switch. The only thing I don’t like about the case is the boombox-like thing up top, which probably houses a microphone.

You can order the iEqualizer from Strapya for about $30 (USD).
