JVC intros 55-inch BlackSapphire LCD TV with 45W virtual surround sound, SlingPlayer

JVC intros 55inch BlackSapphire LCD TV with 45W virtual surround sound, SlingPlayer

Every TV maker trying to avoid total commoditization has a special trick to keep its designs unique and worth a higher price. For JVC, that trick is sound. It’s launching the BlackSapphire line of LCD-based 3D TVs with the 55-inch, edge LED-lit JLE55SP4400, whose signature is an unusually powerful built-in audio system: the 45W system and 3D processing supposedly produces surround sound without having to line the living room with extra speakers. Odds are that the set won’t provide much competition for dedicated speakers, although JVC is promising more integration beyond this with rare built-in SlingPlayer TV streaming, just in case there’s a Slingbox in another part of the home. The all-in strategy could make the inaugural BlackSapphire more of a bargain than it looks: that $1,300 you’ll pay when the screen ships this month might be all you need to start watching.

JVC unveils new 55-inch 3D HDTV with integrated Wi-Fi and passive glasses

JVC has pulled the wraps off a new 3-D HDTV that uses passive 3-D glasses. The TV is a 55-inch JLE55SP4000 3D HDTV and features XinemaView 3D technology. The TV ships with four pairs of battery free passive 3-D glasses and supports Internet apps.

The TV offers innovative Wi-Fi to support those Internet applications and has 120 Hz refresh rate. To make accessing applications and typing using the TV easier it ships with a remote control that has a QWERTY keypad. The TV has a thin bezel that’s less than half an inch thick and supports full HD resolution.

The TV uses edge LED backlit technology for better picture quality and reduced power consumption. JVC also says that the TV stands out from similar models thanks to superior sound quality. JVC says that the sound system has 45 W of total speaker output power, including an integrated woofer and support for XienmaSound 3D technology.

That technology allows the TV to create a virtual surround sound experience without needing additional speakers. The TV comes preloaded with apps for Netflix, YouTube, Vudu, and Pandora. The TV also has a pair of USB ports allowing users to watch home movies, view photos, and listen to music. The TV also has four HDMI inputs, one antenna input, component, and composite video inputs. The screen promises a contrast ratio of 20,000,000 to 1 dynamic. One of the most impressive features of this TV is the price. It will ship this month for $1299.99.

JVC 3D HDTV wears the Smart TV mantle

JVC has just introduced their latest monster for the living room that will fall under the smart TV specification, where the 55″ JLE55SP4000 3D HDTV boasts of XinemaView 3D which will be accompanied by a quartet of battery-free 3D glasses, integrated Wi-Fi connectivity and Internet applications, a 120Hz CrystalMotion display, and a remote control that comes with more than just your regular buttons – it sports a QWERTY keypad to boot. This would make the JLE55SP4000 the first model under JVC’s new “BlackSapphire” range of HDTVs.

Aesthetically speaking, the JVC 3D HDTV cannot do much wrong, considering how it comes with an ultra-thin bezel design that measures under 0.5″ thin, boasts of 1080p Full HD resolution, an edge LED backlight, and superior sound quality without the need for any external soundbar. The latter was achieved via a built-in woofer and enhanced by JVC’s proprietary XinemaSound 3D acoustic and post processing technologies. If you are 3D TV hunting for this month, expect the JVC JLE55SP4000 to be under your radar at $1,299.99 each. [Press Release]

JVC BlackSapphire 4000 Ears-On: This 55-Inch 3DTV Wants to Kill Your Soundbar [Televisions]

If you own a 55-inch 3DTV, chances are you’ve invested in at least a cheap soundbar to match the power of the picture on the screen. You basically have to; the built-in sound on most sets is horrendous. The sound system in the new 55-inch JVC BlackSapphire 3DTV is way burlier than the sound in comparable TVs, and from what we just heard in a hotel room in New York, it may be good enough not to need a soundbar boost.
