Android Key Lime Pie May Include iOS Game Center Like Multiplayer Features

When Apple released its Game Center back when iOS 4 debuted, the company single-handedly provided what many iOS gamers wanted for years: a unified multiplayer service. It’s been two years since Game Center was released, and it looks like Android may be working on a similar service according to analyzed code from Google’s MyGlass application.

According to Android Police who first uncovered this bit of code within Google’s MyGlass app, a future Android update may include tools to give game developers the power to easily implement multiplayer features in their games including real-time and turn-based gameplay, in-game chat, achievements, leaderboards and the ability to invite other players into your game. We think it should go without saying such an update would become a much welcomed feature as it wouldn’t require app developers to create their own online network for their games, such as Gameloft’s Gameloft LIVE! service. Android Key Lime Pie Could Introduce Gesture-Based User Interface

Android Key Lime Pie Could Introduce Gesture Based User InterfaceYou can more or less say that the Android mobile operating system has jumped by leaps and bounds ever since it appeared on the scene a few years ago, and with its latest iteration in the form of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, you can say that it has the iOS from Apple on the backpedal in some aspects. Whispers abound that the next version of the Android operating system will be given the nickname “Key Lime Pie”, in keeping to the tradition that each successive name of a new version of the Android platform will take on the form of a dessert, as well as a corresponding step to the next letter in the alphabet.

While cosmetic changes are to be expected, it is said that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie could very well feature gesture-based user interface options, that will certainly bode well with the new kind of gesture control from the likes of Samsung and LG on their newer flagship devices. Do you think this will raise up an entire new generation of Android fans, or is it just a potential gimmick?

Google Prepares Linux 3.8 Kernel

Google Prepares Linux 3.8 KernelSound the alarms! Man the battle stations! Word has gotten out that Google has already uploaded a spanking new Linux 3.8 kernel repository, and in this latest edition, it is said to come with features such as “Samsung Exynos DRM advancements, open-source NVIDIA Tegra driver inclusion and lowered RAM usage.”

One ought to bear in mind that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean relied on the Linux 3.0 kernel as its base, and we have also seen (and heard) that Google has already uploaded the next 3.3 and 3.4 versions too, for the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update on its Nexus 4 handset. This leads to the question – assuming that the Linux 3.8 kernel repository is not an indicator that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie is in the oven, what is it for? After all, most folks do have the expectation that Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie will be announced at Google’s I/O event which will be happening later this May. Ah well, I guess it is time to sit down and strap tight, adopting a wait and see attitude.

Leaked Android Key Lime Pie Roadmap Being Taken Down By Qualcomm

Leaked Android Key Lime Pie Roadmap Being Taken Down By Qualcomm

We reported on a leaked Qualcomm roadmap which revealed a possible announcement for Android Key Lime Pie to be set in spring 2013, which coincides with this year’s Google I/O, which is scheduled for May 15-17th. It looks as though there was more to that leak than we originally thought as apparently Qualcomm has been scrambling to remove any traces of the leak across the Internet.

Qualcomm has been sending a number of tech publications notices of copyright infringements for publishing the roadmap, which in our experience, leads us to believe the leaks are absolutely true. When you also consider Qualcomm supplies chips for a large number of Android devices, the announcement date may be true for the simple fact that Qualcomm may be privy to Google’s upcoming OS plans.

Android Jelly Bean was announced at Google I/O June 2012, so a late-Spring reveal would certainly be a possibility. Until we hear confirmation from Google themselves, we’ll just have to sit back and know that its announcement is coming sooner than later.

Report: Leaked Documents Confirm Totally Obvious Non-Surprise Android Key Lime Pie Launch This Spring

Could it be that Google will announce the brand new 5.0 version of its Android operating system this spring? Considering that Google I/O-the event where it tends to make announcements like that-is in May, yes. And if that wasn’t a sure enough bet just based on the “well duh” factor, some leaked Qualcomm documents are backing it up. And yes, it’s Key Lime Pie. More »

Qualcomm Roadmap Points To Android Key Lime Pie

qualcomm klp Qualcomm Roadmap Points To Android Key Lime PieGoogle’s naming convention for their Android mobile operating system has stuck to desserts that follow the alphabetical order, and just last December, it seems that the Android Key Lime Pie name has been confirmed as the next Android version. Well, here is another “confirmation” of sorts as the world continues to wait for what comes after Android 4.1 Jelly Bean was introduced at Google I/O in June last year. Apparently, a bunch of leaked Qualcomm roadmaps not only mentioned a particular “K-release” of Android, but it also spelt out the “Key Lime Pie” name to boot.

Apart from the name’s confirmation, there were also a bunch of timetables that listed down just when we can expect Key Lime Pie to arrive, with spring being mentioned a couple of times (that would be somewhere between March and June, generally speaking), with plans for Key Lime Pie-powered devices arriving in the market from the third quarter of the year. Thing is, there was some speculation that Android 6.0 will be Key Lime Pie instead of Android 5.0. Ah well, I guess we will just have to wait as the year progresses to know more.

Android Key Lime Pie Name Confirmed

Prior to Android 4.2’s release, many folks were speculating that this could very well be known as Android 4.2 Key Lime Pie to keep up with tradition that required a sweet dessert name to be associated with the next major release of an Android operating system update. Well, unfortunately for pundits and everyone else looking on in interest, version 4.2 of Android retained the Jelly Bean moniker, and hence it is most likely that Android 5.0 will be the candidate to be dubbed Key Lime Pie. The thing is, it can be pretty hard to get a confirmation of that, but Manu Cornet, a Google employee, could have inadvertently made it known to the world in a comic that he posted on his Google+ account, showing off the evolutionary path that the Android green robot is on, shaped in the same way of a human from an ape till today.

It seemed that the Android robot is starting to stand erect from Ice Cream Sandwich onwards, which some say corresponds with the leaps and bounds that Android has taken in the mobile operating system world. What catches the eye is the pie that the robot munches on after Jelly Bean, and it sure as heck does not look like a Motor Oil Sandwich!

Android 4.2 shows up in our server logs, shocks no one

Android 42 shows up in our server logs, shocks no one

Reports have been circulating that devices running Android 4.2, rumored to be code-named Key Lime Pie (though it’s seeming more likely that it will retain the Jelly Bean moniker), have been popping up in server logs and benchmarks across the web. Well, after doing some digging through our own records, we’re seeing quite a few instances of hardware running the unannounced Google platform visiting Engadget. Now, we do feel it necessary to add the caveat that there are some strange reports in our logs as well, coming from hardware allegedly running Android 5.0 and 6.0, but we’re not convinced of their authenticity. We are, however, fairly certain that the numerous Galaxy Nexii hitting our site sporting Android 4.2, build JOO90B, are legit. We’re also seeing a number of occams, potentially an obtuse reference to the RAZR (a Moto Nexus perhaps?) pinging our servers running the same build. Like others, we’re seeing reports of the Arc S running 4.2 as well, but upon further investigation it seems more likely that this is a beta of Jelly Bean 4.1 currently being tested by Sony. Obviously, none of this is official, but it only makes the impending release of a new Nexus or Nexii seem all the more likely.
