Genius Imperator Gaming Keyboard ships to North America

Folks living in the US and Canada, heads up! If you have been wondering whether there is a need for you to change your gaming keyboard after all these years of faithful service, where the keys are well worn to the extent where you can no longer see what are the alphabets printed on their respective keys, and the spacebar has started to act all wonky due to unusually excessive force distributed by your thumb through the years, then it would be prudent to consider a rather affordable alternative which caters to both MMORPG and RTS gamers (First Person Shooter fans will have to look elsewhere), in the form of the Genius Imperator Gaming Keyboard.

The Genius Imperator Gaming Keyboard is proud to be the latest addition to the GX Gaming Series, where it is touted to deliver customized control to gamers in the heat of battle. It will feature half a dozen programmable keys that are stashed under a trio of game profiles. This would mean the Genius Imperator Gaming Keyboard is capable of letting you assign up to 18 macros to get your game on. Not only that, the included User Interface makes it a snap for you to manage and customize your macros.

It must be said that once the macros have been programmed into the Imperator, you are then free to go on a spell casting spree (as long as there is enough mana that flows, of course) with but a single keystroke. Not only that, previously complex acts can be executed with a solitary press of a key with the right macro programmed. In addition, Genius knows how irritating it can be whenever you switch to Windows by accident during one of the more frenzied gaming moments as you press the Windows key, which is why when it is in gaming mode, the Windows key will remain disabled.

The GX Series Imperator will also boast of up to a 1000Hz report rate and 1ms response time for speedy performance, while on-board memory prevents APM (actions per minute) loss, so that you will have every available bit of tactical advantage in your virtual battles. Hopefully the braided, 6 foot long USB cable is more than long enough to play without experiencing a wired mess.

Genius launches new Imperator MMO/RTS gaming keyboard

Genius has announced the launch of its latest product in the GX gaming line called the Imperator keyboard. The new product is a gaming keyboard aimed specifically at MMO and RTS gamers. I think the keyboard might appeal to gamers who are in into other types of games as well. Some of the features would be perfectly suited to FPS gamers.

The big feature is that the keyboard has six programmable macro keys on the left side that can be assigned up to 18 different macros. Macro keys combine multiple keystrokes into a single button allowing the gamer to perform complicated actions with a single press. The keyboard also supports gaming mode to prevent gamers from accidentally exiting the game by hitting the Windows key.

The keyboard supports three different game profiles and has integrated onboard memory for storing profiles macros. Other features include six different media keys for controlling media when you’re not gaming. Imperator has a 1000 Hz report rate and a 1 ms response time. That high report rate and quick response time means no lag between key presses and actions taking place on the screen.

The keyboard connects to a computer using a 1.8 m long USB cable. The keyboard supports Windows 7, Vista, and XP. It requires at least 100 MB of space and naturally, an available USB port. The keyboard has some nice features when you consider the MSRP of only $49. Many gaming keyboards cost more than twice that amount.

Elecom NFC keyboard for Android devices is a world’s first

Elecom has just released what is deemed to be the first NFC keyboard in the world for Android-powered devices, where those who prefer far more complex model numbers can refer to it as the TK-FNS040BK. This particularly tiny keyboard relies on the NFC IP-1 protocol which will allow you to transform your mobile device into a real and compact productivity center. The concept is pretty interesting, but execution? Well, sad to say, the Elecom NFC keyboard does not seem to offer much right from the get go. You are restricted by Elecom to an extremely short list of Japanese carriers and their range of compatible devices. I guess the only thing going for it would be the novelty factor.

The Elecom TK-FNS040BK is claimed to be the world’s first NFC keyboard for Android devices. It uses the NFC IP-1 protocol to connect with any NFC-enabled Android devices. This NFC keyboard works in conjunction with Elecom’s ATOK app that you can download from Google Play. Folks in Japan are able to buy the Elecom TK-FNS040BK for 18,690 Yen ($237). [Akihabara]

Throwaway NFC keyboard improves productivity, reduces bank balance

NFC is used primarily for enjoyable activities, like buying things, sharing content and making QR codes feel old. But Japanese company Elecom is looking to change all that with a compact keyboard that exploits NFC for productivity. The silicon menace requires a companion app and is compatible with Android phones running Gingerbread (2.3.4) and up. If the bundled case had you sold on the peripheral, you may want to reconsider. The retail price is a sizeable 18,690 yen (approximately $240), and what’s worse, the battery is neither rechargeable nor replaceable, so you’ll have to bin it after the stated six months to a year 18 months (eight hours a day) of life. Still interested? Then head over the break for a video demo from Norwegian co-development company one2TOUCH.

T-Mobile myTouch and myTouch Q review: two budget-friendly phones, one aging OS

DNP TMobile myTouch and myTouch Q review a wellbuilt and walletfriendly Gingerbread duo

Gone are the days when $50 got you a flip phone that could make calls, send texts and shoot super-low-quality thumbnails. T-Mobile’s myTouch offerings aim to provide all the functionality of a top-tier smartphone, coupled with the kind of hardware and software top-tier handsets were offering a year or two ago.

After letting HTC and LG have a go at the myTouch series, T-Mobile tapped Huawei to design its latest devices, the myTouch and myTouch Q, a garden-variety slab and a full QWERTY slider, respectively. This time around, the carrier chose phones with more expansive 4-inch, 800 x 480 displays, among other improvements to the design and internals. Unfortunately, software wasn’t considered in the upgrade: both of these run the aging Android 2.3 OS. Suffice to say, skinned Gingerbread is likely to turn off some shoppers, but it’s still worth asking if people on a budget might appreciate these devices when they go on sale Wednesday for $50, post-rebate. So are there any redeeming qualities to speak of, if not the software experience? Read on to find out.

Engrain Tactile Keyboard

Now there are keyboards, and then there are keyboards. While many of us are fine with just a standard issue keyboard, some of us prefer something more interesting and one that can be a conversation starter. Case in point, this particular Engrain Tactile Keyboard might just get the job done, where exceptionally talented designer Michael Roopenian has decided to incorporate natural textures that can be found in wood grain so that users are able to engage with their sense of touch using his Engrain Tactile Keyboard prototype. Individual keys are constructed through sandblasting wood which will then result in a raised ridge pattern that is formed by the grain. It would be nice to see the Engrain Tactile Keyboard enter production, making this more of a work of art than a technological enterprise. I wonder whether there are any companies out there who are willing to fork out the money to see the Engrain Tactile Keyboard enter production. How much are you willing to pay for one of these?

Das S Mechanical Keyboard upgraded, carries new controls now

In fact, it is now available with added functionalities thrown into the mix, introducing a refresh for Das’ mechanical keyboard line that is sure to get those who purchased the Das S Mechanical Keyboard previously grinding their teeth out of frustration. I guess that there is always a price to pay for early adopters, and those who want to stay at the forefront of technology will need to live with the possibility of a refreshed or upgraded model being introduced not too long after you made your purchase.

The famous Das S Mechanical Keyboard will not come with previously unavailable features, such as Volume control, Track Control and Instant Sleep functions. This added media functionality for the hugely popular Model S Professional mechanical keyboard should be able to see it consolidate its ranking on Amazon even further, since the original ease of use and comfort in typing are retained.

Daniel Guermeur, creator of the Das Keyboard and CEO of Metadot Corporation, said, “As modern professionals become more involved with different media-related activities during the work day—such as online meetings, video conferences, webinars, video tutorials, product demos, podcasts, communicating via Skype, or participating in Google+ Hangouts—it’s important that they have convenient access to media controls on the computer keyboard that’s directly in front of them. Our fans have increasingly asked for a version of our mechanical keyboard that includes media features along with two Windows keys to maintain an optimal typing and multi-media experience. We’re pleased to deliver our refreshed Model S to satisfy their keyboard demands.”

The new features will make its way to both the Model S Professional and Professional Silent versions, where they will comprise of standard media functions such as mute, volume, play/pause, stop, and previous or next track. Not only that, the Das Keyboard’s Model S Professional will now also come with an energy-saving instant sleep function, allowing users to be able to quickly and easily send their computers to sleep mode at any point in time when they want to take a break from typing – perfect for tree huggers as well as anyone with a heart for the environment.

Archos G10 Android tablet brings on teaser for IFA

This week the folks at Archos have previewed their next-generation Android tablet for use with a special keyboard dock and what’s undoubtedly an ultra-powerful multi-core processor. What sets this device aside from the competition here in its very unrevealed state is the fact that it does not pull up from its included keyboard dock as a notebook would, but rather sits in the dock separately like we’ve seen happen with the iPad’s Logitech Ultrathin Keyboard Cover. With a note that suggest the Archos G10, as it’s called, will be out in 3 weeks, we must assume that we’ll see it at IFA 2012 in Berlin.

This device will have a 10.1-inch display, software that’ll likely be Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich or above – maybe even Jelly Bean – and the whole tablet will be the manufacturer’s best effort yet in the Android space. Though we’ve seen devices that are inexpensive and quite ready to head across the earth with their nearly-odd and fragile stand-up sticks from Archos in the past, this effort seems to be aiming directly at the top tier of Android tablets. The ASUS Transformer Prime, in particular, may want to watch its back.

We must make an educated guess and say that this tablet will come with an NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor as the manufacturer has for the past few devices been going with NVIDIA’s newest and nicest processor on the market without question. Samsung also has an announcement set for August 15th for what very well may be another tablet also, so we’ll see how well the G10 does against competition from all sides.

Have a peek at our timeline of Archos devices from over the past few weeks and months to get a better idea of what we’ll be dealing with here, and don’t miss the “expectation” video above to see how lovely Archos is aiming to make the G10 very soon. This device will be mostly white with a strangely appealing looking gray back and a full reinforced glass front. The keyboard dock will be rather low-profile but will have moving buttons and a physical connection to the tablet when it’s placed in lock step.

Just like a vehicle, computer hardware, too, needs to have some kind of hardware refresh from time to time.
