SweetPea3 MP3 player range introduced for all ages

sweetpea3With the proliferation of the smartphone, you can more or less say that the dedicated MP3 player is dead, and so is the once popular portable media player. I mean, just take a look at the sales charts of the iPod touch and the more or less defunct iPod, and you will get what I mean. Hence, it is rather interesting to see how the SweetPea3 MP3 player has decided to make an appearance over on Kickstarter in order to raise enough funds for itself to launch. The SweetPea Toy Company is both the designer and manufacturer the SweetPea3 MP3 Player for Kids, and with that product being on the market for years already, it is high time for a refresh, hence the creation of the SweetPea3, an Android-powered device.

The new range will actually comprise of the new SweetPea3R and SweetPea3, where they are at their very core, music and media players which targets the kiddy crowd. Basically, they will be able to perform what they were created for at an exceptional level, and parents too will be able to benefit from getting one of these for their kids since it could assist them in helping keep their kids quiet, especially during a particularly lengthy road trip.

What makes these new devices different from the ones that are in the market? Well, apart from a decent design that is not childish in any way, it will also be accompanied by solid execution and a really good understanding of the needs of all age groups, whether they are kids, seniors, special needs or folks of a school-going age, those are the target markets, in addition to parents and caregivers.

An integrated speaker would deliver smooth sounding audio, as it tries to discourage the use of headphones for young kids, while coming with a rubber coating as well as buttons make it easy to use for seniors who face tactile difficulties. Both the SweetPea3 and SweetPea3R will arrive in Violet, Red, Blue and Black shades. Other specifications and features include a Parental Sleep-in Trainer, Nap Alarms, an auto-off timer, 4GB of internal memory, and a rechargeable battery via its microUSB port.

Fliwer Sensor Targets Plants

Fliwer Sensor Targets PlantsWhen it comes to sensor devices, we have seen our fair share of wearable sensors in the past that would do their bit to help us keep track of our daily activity movement, including the number of steps taken as well as amount of calories burned, the works. Heck, it was just earlier today that we talked about the FitBit Bug, where it offered a highly affordable device that does most of what the more expensive personal activity trackers do. Well, apart from humans, plants too, might want in on the action. Case in point, the Fliwer sensor that will be able to monitor just about everything concerning your plants. These measurements would include soil moisture, light, temperature, air humidity, and fertilizer levels among others.

Right now, Fliwer is a Kickstarter project, and it will not only be able to inform you of just when you should start to water your plants, but you will also be notified on when you ought to fertilize, prune, harvest or expect the plants to flower. The device has also been given a social slant, allowing you to learn, chat, and share useful tips with other Fliwer users. Just in case this idea looks familiar, perhaps the Parrot Flower Power smart wireless plant sensor that was demonstrated to us at this year’s CES had something to do with it?

Zim, stylish and powerful Sub-$800 3D Printer with dual-head

Zim, stylish and powerful Sub $800 3D Printer with dual head

Last week, I met with Philippe Guglielmetti, CEO of Zeepro, the company behind the new consumer 3D printer Zim. Zeepro is successfully raising funds via Kickstarter to bring this sexy and powerful sub-$800 3D printer to market. Since Chris Anderson stated that “3D printing will be bigger than the web” when he left Wired in 2012, the desktop 3D printer battle is raging, and it feels like there is a new one popping up on Kickstarter every month.

I have not seen Zim in action yet, but just from the videos and the specifications, I am really impressed by the product design and the performance of this new comer in the personal 3D printing world.

Compared to the most popular devices currently available in this category, namely the Makerbot Replicator 2 and 2X, and the Cubify Cube and Cube X , the Zim performs better (on the paper) for a lower price point and a sleeker design. The $347 Pirate3D Bucaneer, which will only be available for pre-order in December, delivers an elegant and minimalistic design as well; however, it packs fewer features. You can support Zeepro via its Kickstarter campaign and get a Zim with one extruder for $599 or with 2 extruders for $799.

Tikker Is A Watch That Counts Down To Your Death, Because YOLO

Screen Shot 2013-10-10 at 9.03.24 AM

You wait in the doctor’s office with a furrowed brow and a heavy heart. When he returns, his face is somber and his eyes concentrate on the clipboard in front of him.

“You’ve only got a little time left,” he says apologetically. “If there’s anything you want to do before you die, now’s the time.”

That’s the experience that Tikker, a new death countdown clock, wants you to have every time you look down at your wrist. The Kickstarter project has a special handbook that gives you an estimation of your years left on this earth, which likely has very little to do with reality. From there, you can enter that amount of time into the watch.

Alongside telling you the actual time of day, Tikker will also let you know how many years, weeks, days, hours, and seconds you have left to live.

The idea is to remind you, in every moment, that life is short.

The Tikker watch is listed as a Kickstarter project that has almost doubled the asking amount of $25,000 with a solid 22 days left in the campaign. It isn’t revolutionary technology, to say the least, and it’s not particularly stylish or glamorous. So why all the success?

The answer, as Slate reminds us, is YOLO.

No matter what you’re biggest fear is, from snakes to bees to heights to confined spaces, nothing is more terrifying than the thought of letting your life slip away without ever being who you wanted to be, doing what you wanted to do, or going where you wanted to go.

As a constant reminder to go out and live life well and happily, Tikker automatically tugs on the heart strings of consumers.

If that wrapping on the door of your heart sounds a lot like “Carpe Diem”, head over to Kickstarter and check it out.

Here’s a kind of creepy video about it:

Spin Chill Cools off Warm Beer in Less than a Minute

Some people don’t mind drinking a beer at room temperature, but I think most of us prefer it to be chilled. It takes at-least 10 to 15 minutes in the refrigerator before you can get it chilled. Who has the time for that when there’s drinking to be done? Well, now you can chill your beer in under a minute.

    cold beermagnify

The answer? The Spin Chill. This little first world problem solver spins an individual beer can inside your ice chest. It’s basically a drill bit with cap on the top. That cap holds your beer. You supply the spin.

But what if you’re too lazy to get the drill out of the garage? Go for the Beerouette – a complete mini drill that you attach your beer to and spin. If you want to get in on this, head on over to Kickstarter by October 17th. The bit by itself is going for $12, and comes in versions for either bottles or cans, while the Beerouette sells for $35, and can chill either bottles or cans.

Monsieur Robotic Bartender Intends To Deliver The ‘Perfect’ Cocktail

Monsieur Robotic Bartender Intends To Deliver The Perfect CocktailAre robots about to take over the world? I suppose you could more or less say so, as they have already played a large role in places such as factories, doing highly repetitive tasks without ever getting tired or having to ask for some time off, or to even organize a strike simply because it does not have enough grease around its motors. Perhaps they might also replace your regular bartender at the local watering hole, as evidenced by Monsieur, a robotic bartender. The Monsieur happens to be a machine which will learn of one’s moods as well as preferences over time in order to concoct the ‘perfect’ cocktail.

This is the result of a company which happens to be known as Monsieur as well, and right now, this particular robotic bartender is trying to sniff out $100,000 on Kickstarter. Just like a human bartender, the Monsieur is able to come up with a smart recommendations depending on one’s preferences, and you can even take advantage of a smartphone app so that you can place an order for a drink remotely. I guess there is one major drawback of the Monsieur, no matter how fantastic its mix of cocktails can be – it does not offer you a shoulder to cry on when you have had a particularly rough day.

Gameduino 2 Transforms Arduino Board Into Portable Console

Gameduino 2 Transforms Arduino Board Into Portable ConsoleWhen it comes to playing games while you are on the go, the days of when you were limited to just the Game Boy are long gone. Since then, we have had the likes of the Nintendo DS, Nintendo 3DS and its variants, as well as all generations of the Sony PSP in addition to the PS VIta. Smartphones these days have also gotten powerful enough to run fantastic looking games with enough depth in them, but for those who want something out of the ordinary, here we are with the Gameduino 2, which happens to be a Kickstarter project which delivers a kit that transforms an Arduino board into a portable gaming device.

The developer hopes to raise the intended amount of dough over on Kickstarter, and hope to be able to ship the first units this coming December (making it arrive in time for the Christmas season, we would presume) for folks who have decided to pledge at least $59 to the Gameduino 2’s cause. The Gameduino 2 is not the first of its kind, as this new model is a wee bit more powerful than its predecessor, and is also full well capable of handling most of the games that you see are available on Android and iOS devices. Other specifications of the Gameduino 2 include a 4.3” 480 x 272 resolution TFT touchscreen display, an a-axis accelerometer, headphone output, and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes.

RainScarf: Perfect for Harsh Winds and the Occasional Downpour

Scarves keep you all snug and bundled up when the winds are a-blowing, but what about when it rains? You can wrap it around and over your head, but you’ll still get soaked through. That is, unless you have a RainScarf.

    rainscarf 1 620x465magnify

First and foremost, the RainScarf is a scarf. But when it rains, you can also quickly transform it into a hoodie of sorts. Just remove it from your neck and flip it inside out from either end. And voilà!

    rainscarf 2 620x465magnify

You’ve got a hoodie you can wear and something waterproof to cover yourself with while you run to find some shelter.

The RainScarf is available in pink gem and slate gray, so there’s one for the girls and one for the guys (but remember: real men wear pink.) It’s currently up for funding on Kickstarter through November 8th, where a minimum pledge of $24(USD) will get you one of your very own.

Tikker watch tells you how much time left you have on your clock

tikkerNow this is an interesting question to consider – would you prefer to know just how many days you have left to spend on earth, or you prefer to be not in the know, so that you are able to make the most out of each day instead? I would fall under the latter category, but if you are a meticulous planner who also wants to plan for your eventual demise, then you might want to check out this particularly interesting Kickstarter project that is known as the Tikker watch. This Tikker watch is supposed to be the first self-contained atomic clock watch in the world.

The Tikker watch does not have any kind of fancy designs in the first place, but before you are able to wear it, you will need to answer a simple questionnaire, before subtracting your current age from the results. After doing so, you will have to set the clock to count down the rest of your life. Apart from that, it will also be able to keep track of local time, although it goes without saying that the death countdown would be the “main attraction” here. Right now, the Tikker watch is going for a $39 pledge, where it will arrive in a shade of black that is also what the grim reaper wears. If you prefer a custom color, then be prepared to pony up a $1,000 pledge.

AppSeed Promise to Turn Your App Mock-ups into Working Prototypes

AppSeed is probably the handiest app you can have if you’re into creating apps. It’s an up-and-coming app that turns mock-ups and sketches of your app into a functioning prototype.

    But let’s backtrack a little.

    AppSeedmagnify

Normally, the application development process begins with conceptualizing the app and working out use cases. Once the idea is fully formed, it’s time to bring out the pen and paper to create wireframes and sketches of the app’s interface. For most, the next step involves hiring a developer to create a functional prototype. This is where AppSeed comes in.

At this point, you just take a picture of your app sketches, and fire the app up to let it get to work.

The use of computer vision speeds up the process and understands your sketches. AppSeed can identify an enclosed space in your sketch, allowing you to make it into a button, input text, map, or another UI element – making your sketch into a functioning prototype running on your phone.

AppSeed is up for funding on Kickstarter through tomorrow (10/9), where a minimum pledge of $8 CAD (~$7.25 USD) will get you access to the app once released.
