Baboom Is Kim Dotcom’s New Music Streaming Service

Baboom Is Kim Dotcoms New Music Streaming Service

Kim Dotcom is nothing short of an internet celebrity. Widely known as the man behind Megaupload, and the ostentatious lifestyle it afforded him, Dotcom was in totally different circumstances when an armed raid was conducted on his mansion near Auckland, New Zealand, almost two years ago. Since then, he has bounced back in spectacular fashion, launching a new cloud storage service called Mega, and has even talked about his plans to build an NSA-proof email service. Dotcom has launched another venture on the anniversary of that unfortunate raid, this time its a music streaming service called Baboom.

The new service is currently under a soft launch, it doesn’t have a lot of content to offer, in fact the only music available on it right now is by Dotcom. That’s right, he sings as well, his new album called Good Times is available for streaming through Baboom. Those who want to purchase the album are free to pay whatever they want for it, or pay nothing at all. On other music sites however, like Amazon and iTunes, the album costs $10. Dotcom has been able to bring in a modest amount of listeners on the new music streaming service, he tweeted that the first hour saw 78.321 song plays, given the fact that there’s only a limited amount of content available. We will have to wait for a full launch to see what direction Baboom ends up taking, but Dotcom says that this new service will be about “empowering artists.”

Now that Kim Dotcom’s cloud storage service Mega is available to the public, it’s finally found time to launch the iOS app it’s been promising. The new app includes many of the same features as its Android counterpart, which has been available on Android for more than four months, including file previews and easy sharing. It currently lacks automatic camera syncing but that will come, along with iPad support, in a future update. What’s next for Mega? It’s on course to launch its Sync tool for Windows, Mac and Linux in the coming weeks, giving it time to concentrate on adding new security and messaging features to the cloud service in the new year.

The Megaupload Takedown Killed At Least 10 Million Innocent Files

When Megaupload got taken down two years ago, it took a whole hell of a lot of data with it. And eventually it got obliterated. Some of it was pirate data, sure, but some was legit too. And new research shows that, at the very least, ten million innocent files got the axe.

Kim Dotcom Teases “Baboom” Music Service

Kim Dotcom Teases Baboom Music ServiceWe knew that Kim Dotcom, the man behind the MEGA service, was working on a music service and today Dotcom has unveiled the name of his upcoming product which he is calling “Baboom”. While the full specifics of this new service has yet to be unveiled, along with pricing plans, Dotcom did provide a bit of insight into the upcoming service, claiming that it will give artists unprecedented control over their work and that an entire career can actually be managed through it. Sounds pretty ambitious, but we guess we will just have to wait and see.

According to Torrent Freak, the service will be ad supported at the start, although unsurprisingly it is expected that an ad free version will be made available as well through a subscription model. According to Dotcom, he believes that the free music model will reduce piracy, while at the same time providing compensation to artists whose music is being streamed or downloaded. No word on when Baboom will be launched or how much it will cost, but what do you guys think? Will Baboom be able to stand out in a crowd of music service providers, such as Spotify, Rdio, Pandora, and etc.?
