TellSpec gives you more information than a food label will

Tellspec

It’s a bit disgusting that a vast majority of us thrive on prepackaged foods or fast food. We don’t even really know the contents of what we’re eating, but as long as it doesn’t taste terrible and keeps us alive, we don’t care. If you’re tired of this mentality, and want to start knowing what all is in your food, then you’re going to have to look a bit closer than the label to know what’s going on.

The TellSpec will give you all the details about what is actually in your food. It’s small, portable, and syncs up with your smartphone. From there you’ll be able to tell what allergens, chemicals, nutrients, calories, and even ingredients are in your food. For those who have food allergies, this is a godsend, as serious food allergies can make eating anything a life or death situation. Not only will it tell you what’s present in the food you’re wanting to eat, but it will also give you the back story of each item so you understand what you’re putting into your body.

This has a pretty amazing method of delivering all this information to you:

“When you beam the low-powered laser in the TellSpec scanner at the food, some of the photons are absorbed, raising the energy states of the molecules in the food. Lower energy photons are then reflected back. The spectrometer inside the TellSpec scanner sorts these photons by wavelength and counts them. The resulting numbers, called a spectrum, describe the chemical compounds in the food. This spectrum is uploaded to our analysis engine where it is analyzed and correlated with other reference spectra. Information about the allergens, chemicals, nutrients, calories, and ingredients in the food is then downloaded to you and displayed on your smart phone.”

Needless to say, this is some pretty high-tech gear in a small package, so the $320 initial fee with a need for a subscription shouldn’t surprise you. You’ll be able to choose black, red, green, turquoise, or white as the color of the scanner body. Make sure you also have access to a smartphone before plunging into this purchase.

The Maze Mug – Those who win get to spill coffee in their lap

Maze Mug
During the colder months, we need to layer up so we don’t get frostbite. Depending on where you are, this can either be more or less of a challenge. The hard part of facing the winter is beating the mental aspect. All of the plant life is dead, and sometimes there’s hardly any snow to make it look pretty outside. This is a great time for watching movies and working on projects at home, but what about when you have to go out for work?

We all need things that will keep our minds occupied, and the Maze Mug is a perfect example of how to do that. This is a double wall insulated travel mug that just so happens to have an intricate maze on the outside of it. You’ll be able to guide the little metal ball from point A to point B. Just make sure that there’s nothing still in your cup when you start moving the thermos around. Otherwise your morning is not going to start off so well.

This cup comes in blue, green, or brown (which looks like black to me), but you won’t get to choose which color you get. While it doesn’t mention how much liquid it is capable of holding, the pictures make it look as though you could easily fit the equivalent of two mugs of coffee. One of these will only cost you around $7, and possibly more in dry cleaning if you aren’t careful.

Prepology Cordless Automatic Stirrer gives you a helping hand

Prepology
Thanksgiving is coming, and for many of us, that means making an insane amount of food. While we love them dearly, they always seem to want to hover near the kitchen and talk while we do the work. Keeping five or more dishes from burning is quite a feat, especially when you only have two hands to do everything.

If you wish there was someone who would help you without inadvertently messing anything up, the Prepology Cordless Automatic Stirrer might be of use. This was inspired from a toy, and became a helpful hand in the kitchen. It’s only function, is to stir whatever you put in a bowl with it. Once you put it in a bowl, it travels all over the place much in the same way a Roomba would through your home.

There are three different speeds to choose from, that you’ll want to choose based on what you’re making. While this can handle a variety of foods, it’s best to keep this out of thicker food such as risotto or oatmeal. They need four double A batteries to function, and come in res, green, or blue. They cost less than $10, and come in a set of two. This could be a way to make Thanksgiving day cooking easier, and give you a gift for someone for Christmas. It should definitely be noted that this would be perfect for those who have arthritis, but still love to cook.

Egg Minder lets you know when you need to stock up on your eggs

eggminderI absolutely love eggs, as they are a must in my daily diet. Whenever I hit the buffet queue at a hotel or restaurant for breakfast, the egg station is the first place that my eyes will look out for. Needless to say, this means that my egg tray in the fridge at home tends to be well stocked most of the time, but there are moments of weakness when I forget to stock up on them. Good thing there is a device that can help me out here, thanks to the $69.99 Egg Minder, which is a Wink-enabled egg tray.

With the Egg Minder, it will let me know exactly when I will need to purchase additional eggs regardless of where I am. This is one smart egg carton that will notify the owner of a low egg inventory, where it will also feature a LED indication of the oldest egg in the bunch. It will play nice with devices that run on iOS 6 and above as well as Android 2.2 or higher. Just how does it work? It synchronizes with your smartphone or tablet, letting you know of the total amount as well as when they will go bad. It connects to the Wink app over Wi-Fi, and will run on a couple of AA batteries.

iKettle – Control your kettle from your phone

Hot coffee, the elixir of early risers and sleepy people everywhere. Its hard to imagine a world without a nice cup of coffee waiting for us to soothe our souls, perk us up or bring us back to life. In a perfect world, coffee would make itself while I was still in bed and arrive at my bedside via a tall blonde bodybuilder with a subtle European accent of some kind. I can dream, can’t I?

Unknown

In the meantime, there’s iKettle, allowing you to instantly control hot beverage making from anywhere in your house by using your iPhone. Simply set your system to Wake Mode, and the next morning you will be gently called to consciousness and asked if you would like to have the kettle on. ( not sure about the accent) If your answer is yes, you will later be asked if you’d like it to be kept warm.

Maybe coffee isn’t your thing and it’s a nice relaxing cup of tea that get’s you rolling. iKettle has four precise temperature settings, designed to help you achieve the perfect brew whether it be green tea, or java. With its sleek stainless steel design, and one-touch settings, the 1.8 liter iKettle can wake you up, or welcome you home with a steaming hot beverage. And let’s face it, where would you keep a tall blonde bodybuilder anyway?

iKettle is easy to clean with a removable heating element, has an automatic shut off, and boil-dry protection, works with your homes WiFi connection and will be available for delivery in the UK in a few weeks, no word yet on when it will be available here in the States, but I’m hoping it’s very soon. The iKettle can be pre-ordered from firebox.com for right around 160 bucks. We’ll keep you posted when it jumps the pond.

Baladeo 52G Pocket Cutlery Set has all that you need

baladeoIf you happen to be someone who loves tinkering around with stuff, and have amassed quite a collection of Swiss Army Knives over the years, then you would definitely fall in love with the $59.99 Baladeo 52G Pocket Cutlery Set. Why do I say this? That is because it has just about everything that you need whenever the dinner bell rings, and you go off to satiate that hunger of yours. The Baladeo 52G Pocket Cutlery Set can be said to be more or less “complete”, as all the utensils within it have been forged from 420 stainless steel for that added mark of quality.

This is an ultralight cutlery set which will feature five functions that have been wrapped up into a single small, good looking package. You will find a spoon, fork, knife, can opener, and bottle opener within, where all of the pieces will fold and lock together in order to be carried in its mesh carrying case. You can also open it up with a few steps so that it would function as a cutlery set. Best of all is, it has been specially made for travel purposes, so you can ensure that it will be temperature resistant (within reasonable limits, I am quite sure that even it is unable to withstand the fires of Mount Doom when tossed there).

Feel the Force Self Stir Mug turns you into a faux Jedi

force-self-stir-mugHave you been one of those who have been bitten by the Star Wars bug? If you have answered in the affirmative, then I am quite sure that you would have, at some point in time or another, wanted to have the ability to wield the Force. Whether it is meant for the Dark Side or the Light Side, that remains to be seen, although the Dark Side of the Force does seem to sound extremely tempting. Baby steps is what this is all about though. Forget about lifting up an X-Wing which has been stuck in a bog while a short little green creature tells you in inverse grammar, “Do or do not, there is no try.” Why not begin with the £14.99 Feel the Force Self Stir Mug that should be able to do enough to impress your friends and colleagues?

All you need to do is play the part, but while you attempt some sort of misdirection move to turn the attention of the curious away from the pivotal moment when you press the button on the handle so that the mug will be able to stir its contents on its own without missing a beat. Ideal for tea, coffee, hot chocolate or soup, the Feel the Force Self Stir Mug would be more than the ideal gift for any aspiring Jedi Master wannabe.

Splash Chopping Board adds some drama to your kitchen and meal times

splash-chopping-boardWhen you turn on the TV these days, you might actually stop to pause and think – there is just nothing good to watch on TV at all, never mind the fact that the total number of channels available to you these days are a few hundred times more than those your grandparents had available when they were young, which could be pretty ironic when you think about it. Well, the TV has plenty of shows these days, and some shows tend to concentrate more of the sombre side of life, including murder. The classic murder scene would see a weapon left behind that caused the death, as well as a pool of blood near the victim’s body. With the £15.00 Splash Chopping Board, you are able to make sure that folks who drop by your kitchen would be able to have a conversation starter.

The Splash Chopping Board after all, comes with an ingenious dripping design that makes it stable against the side of the kitchen counter. It will add a splash of (sometimes controversial) color to your kitchen whenever you’re chopping ingredients, and with the vertical drip that can be removed in a jiffy, it can transform into a completely flat worktop saver without missing a beat. Clever!

Not only is it much more economical and time saving, it’s likely to be a much healthier option than you’ll get at your local fast food joint.
