Sprint Unveils Kyocera Torque Android Smartphone

torque Sprint Unveils Kyocera Torque Android SmartphoneOnce in a while, we do come across a tough looking handset that belongs to the rugged family, and Sprint takes the mantle this time around with the Android-powered Kyocera Torque smartphone. There is a saving grace for modern day rugged smartphones, as they come in a far more pleasing form factor compared to the devices of yesteryear. Well, the Kyocera Torque will offer LTE support while carrying a Qualcomm MSM8960 chipset with dual-core 1.2 GHz Krait CPU, 1GB RAM, a 5-megapixel shooter at the back and a 1.3-megapixel camera in front.

It will not feature the latest Android operating system though, relying instead on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to help you get around. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC, and you can further expand on its mobile storage capability by throwing in a microSD memory card. Being IP67 certified and is built to Military Standard 810G, it can remain underwater (up to 1m deep) for 30 minutes, and shrugs off drops from four feet, while being able to withstand heavy dust and exposure to salt fog, 95% humidity, solar radiation exposure, low pressures up to 4572 meters, etc. There is no word on pricing or availability on the Kyocera Torque as at press time.

Kyocera Torque Gets FCC Approval

sprint kyocera torque fcc Kyocera Torque Gets FCC ApprovalThere were whispers of a Kyocera Torque which was meant to hit Sprint sometime down the road, but here we are one step closer to such a reality with the Kyocera Torque having passed through the FCC, although it did so by virtue of being hailed as the Kyocera E6710. Just what kind of goodies concerning the Kyocera Torque/E6710 that we can garner from the Federal Communications Commission filing? For starters, how about the usual suspects such as LTE and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n connectivity, which will be accompanied by NFC support?

Other features of the Torque still remain shrouded in a veil of mystery that should be lifted up once the smartphone hits the market officially, but we do know that this bad boy is set to be a rugged device. Sporting both front-facing and rear cameras with flash, it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Hopefully we will be able to see the Kyocera Torque arrive in the market sooner than later, and it should target the budget minded.
