LG reveals Optimus L Series II, dualSIM L7II is the first to launch

As usual, LG can’t wait for the show to start to display its latest phones and is previewing the Optimus L Series II line ahead of MWC 2013. Just like its predecessors, the L Series II will come in a variety of sizes, with a 3.2-inch L3II, 4.0-inch L5II and 4.3-inch L7II on the way. According to LG, the second coming of the L Style adds Seamless Layout, Laser Cut Contour, Radiant Rear Design and Smart LED Lighting (the button at the bottom has a lighted edge) design elements to the beauty of the original phones. Other than screen size, the different versions will also feature different batteries, ranging from 2,460mAh in the largest to 1,540mAh in the smallest.

The L7II will be first to launch and has the most details, with specs listing a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8225 CPU, up to 4GB internal storage, 768MB RAM and a microSD slot, plus WVGA IPS screen and 8MP rear / VGA front camera setup. The dual-SIM version seen in earlier leaks will debut in Russia this week with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on board, availability for the other new phones will be announced later. The full rundown of new features and a pair of pictures are after the break, while you check those we’ll keep an eye out for any more surprises from LG before the show floor opens in Barcelona.

White BlackBerry Z10 Caught On Film Days Before Its Official Unveiling

whitez10-1

After months of stoking anticipation and dealing with criticism, RIM will finally reveal BlackBerry 10 to the world on Wednesday. It’s got to be a heady moment for everyone involved — this is the company’s big shot at redemption and relevance — but until then the rest of us will just have to make do with another batch of leaked BB10 hardware photos.

The subject this time around though is the white Z10, an oft-rumored version of the device that’s popped up in rumor posts and renders (including one that appeared as part of a leaked Verizon Wireless promo page) but generally not out in the wild. Longtime readers may know that I’m a bit of a sucker for a white phone, but the black bezel that runs around the white Z10′s 4.2-inch display is a neat little touch that makes the thing look visually distinct — certainly not a bad thing now that RIM preparing to wade once again into the middle of a heated smartphone conflict.

Naturally, the rest of the technical particulars are still under lock and key right now, but that hasn’t stopped leakers and rumormongers from disseminating a tentative spec sheet in recent days. Should it hold true, the Z10 will include 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and 1800 mAh battery, and an 8-megapixel rear camera. BGR reports that the Z10 will make its retail debut with a sub-$199 price tag as well, with editor Jonathan Geller pointing to a $150 price point as a distinct possibility.

Wednesday’s event will be the first time that the world at large can get better acquainted with BlackBerry 10 and the hardware that runs it, but it certainly won’t be the last. RIM has sunk an undisclosed amount of money into a 30-second spot due to run during the Super Bowl this Sunday, so it’s clear that RIM is gunning to make a real splash in the market over the weeks and months to come.

Sorry Apple, the BlackBerry Z10 Is Hotter Than the iPhone

I’ve always hated BlackBerry phones. Disgracefully ugly bricks they were—until the BlackBerry Z10. The BlackBerry Z10 is hot. Truly beautiful, elegant hardware. If the OS is as nice as it seemed at CES, I will totally snatch one up. More »

Mystery BlackBerry 10 device hits the FCC with AT&T-capable LTE

Mystery BlackBerry 10 device hits the FCC with AT&Tcapable LTE

RIM’s January unveiling isn’t going anywhere without federal approval, and it seems the FCC is happy to oblige. Regulators put an unnamed BlackBerry device with a RFF91LW model number through the standard tests, giving it the green light for AT&T’s LTE and GSM bands, as well as a few international frequencies. The handset’s label sample is conveniently censored, of course, but FCC reports indicate that at least three of the devices RIM provided were running OS 10.0.9. Could we be seeing the “L-series” BlackBerry Z10? Or is this simply one of the Dev Alpha devices RIM has been handing out to developers? Either way, we’ll get verification next month.

Forget That Lame Teaser: RIM’s L-Series BlackBerry 10 Phone Gets Captured On Video (Again)

l-series1

RIM posted a mostly toothless smartphone teaser to its BlackBerry 10 landing page earlier this week, but really, what BlackBerry fan could be appeased by that? Thankfully, the folks at Tinhte.vn (the Vietnamese gadget site that came to prominence when it posted early video and benchmarks of the 3rd gen iPad) got their hands on the all-touch L-Series BB10 smartphone and gave it the full photo and video treatment.

Assuming its design is final (if not, it’s very recent — the device sports the recently-renamed BlackBerry World app), the L-Series carries over many of the same aesthetic choices seen in the BlackBerry 10 Dev Alpha B device. The front speaker and microphone placement appears to be the same as on the tester device, as do the locations of the BlackBerry logo and the front-facing camera. Meanwhile, a quick meander through the gallery reveals that the L-Series comes equipped with a removable 1,800 mAh battery, and well as the usual collection of microUSB, micro-HDMI, and microSD slots.

Overall, the device doesn’t look too bad — it seems to have remained very understated in its design language (which is probably to be expected considering RIM’s enterprise leanings), and the rounded corners make the L-Series awfully reminiscent of that early BlackBerry London image that begun making the rounds over a year ago. Personally, the looks by themselves aren’t enough to make me want to buy one of things, but BlackBerry 10 certainly has potential and that could make all the difference.

Anyway, that’s enough out of me. I’ve included some of the juicier images below, and you can check out the rest of the photos here and here.

LG L-Series Sold 10 Million Units To Date

The executives over at LG Electronics must be popping some champers after announcing that the sales of their Optimus L-Series smartphones have passed the 10 million unit mark already, which is still a modest milestone when you think about it, but at least it shows that their L-Series smartphones under the Optimus branch is going somewhere at the very least. According to LG, the success of this shows that “many consumers want attractive smartphones with distinctive styling.” Are you one of the 10 million who picked up the LG L-Series Optimus smartphones, and what were your reasons for doing so?

The L-Series handsets come in the Optimus L3, Optimus L5, and Optimus L7 models, sporting a 3.2”, 4” and 4.3” display, respectively, and they were all introduced at MWC 2012 first. LG’s design philosophy brought together 5 aesthetic elements: Modern Square Style for a comfortable grip, Floating Mass Technology for a slimmer look, Seamless Layout for a more intuitive arrangement of keys, Harmonized Design Contrast utilizing metallic accents and Sensuous Slim Shape that draws one’s gaze to the unique form factor. Well, where does LG go from here? Can we say, “Here’s to the next 10 million?” [Press Release]

LG sells 10 million Optimus L-Series phones, stays semi-humble with success

LG sells 10 million Optimus LSeries phones, claims a small dose of humility

Although the Optimus G and its Nexus 4 cousin are clearly the darlings of LG’s mobile lineup, that isn’t precluding the Korean company from crowing about a milestone for its more pedestrian Optimus L-Series smartphones. The company has officially passed 10 million sales of L-Series phones spread across the entire line, ranging from the tiny L3 through to the extra-large L9. LG only makes a partial attempt at keeping itself grounded, though. While it’s quick to acknowledge that 10 million is a “modest” amount in the light of grander achievements, it directly credits the figure to rejecting rivals’ tendencies to put “all their eggs into a one-size-fits-all phone” — a not-so-subtle potshot at a certain competitor’s approach to budget models. Whether or not that’s valid criticism, we’d say a little braggadocio could be justified when most low-cost smartphones rarely get this kind of recognition.

Blackberry 10 accessories spotted in a list leaked online

Wondering what sort of accessories you will be able to accessorize your new Blackberry 10 smartphone with upon its release in 2013? The folks at BerryBlog.hu have managed to get their hands on what looks like a screenshot of a list of accessories from RIM that give us an idea of what to expect. Nothing really spectacular here and pretty much what one might expect, such as batteries, a multimedia dock, chargers, and a variety of cases that we expect will play nice with the company’s first Blackberry 10 handset, the L-series, which has been spotted numerous times in leaked photos in the past. We’re not sure what those accessories will look like or how much they will cost, but hopefully those details will be revealed at a later date. For now we guess this is what Blackberry 10 hopefuls will have to make do with.

Blackberry 10 L-series tutorial video surfaces online

Once again it really seems like with every week, we can expect to see something Blackberry 10 related, but with Google recently releasing some tips and some numbers on how to successfully market a smartphone prior to its release, it looks like RIM could be headed in the right direction. In any case a video was posted not too long ago which is basically a tutorial video on the Blackberry 10 L-series handset which is due for a release early next year. While there’s nothing new revealed in the video, it gives us some idea of what we can expect from the device, along with a tutorial on how to navigate the operating system along with the gestures that we can use on it. This is probably a great video for those who are preparing themselves for the Blackberry 10 L-series, or for eager fans who simply can’t get enough of Blackberry 10 or the L-series handset.
