LaCie d2 external HD rebooted with USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt

It’s time for the LaCie d2 external hard drive to be re-released, this time with a boost that should, by all means, make it into a brand new device altogether. What we’re looking at here is what’s now called the LaCie d2 USB 3.0 Thunderbolt Series and it’s ready for universal connectivity like no other. This machine works with the fabulous speeds of USB 3.0 for a large cross-section of brand new machines and hits speeds to the max with no less than Thunderbolt connectivity for speeds up to two times that of FireWire 800.

This machine now works with speeds up to 180MB/s and has the ability to transfer a 10GB project in less than a minute. This comes with a fan-free aluminum heat sink design with a sleek silvery aesthetic and a lovely blue eye. This industrial design creates 60 percent more surface area than flat designs, this allowing heat to efficiently divert and dissipate like a champ. You’ll be able to stack these drives up if you wish, or just keep one to the side of your computer upright on its own simple stand.

You’ve got 256-bit AES encryption for security and the knowledge that you’re working with a company that’s been in business making drives like these for almost a decade. With USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt interfaces you’ll be able to work with new Apple products such as the MacBook Pro and Ultrabooks of many kinds. You’ve got backwards compatibility with USB 2.0 as well and you get both a USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt cable in the box.

The LaCie d2 was designed by Neil Poulton and remains as iconic as it was the day it was originally revealed. This new edition will be available with a full backup software suite in two sizes, one of them with 3TB of space, the other with 4TB. You’ll be able to grab this lovely drive immediately if not soon from your favorite LaCie retailer or reseller.

LaCie PetiteKey: Get Ready to Lose It

USB flash drives are becoming smaller and smaller, and thus easier to misplace. I’ve lost a couple, and that’s one of the reasons why I don’t buy any new ones, because they’d probably end up lost as well. At least the tiny LaCie PetiteKey will fit onto your keyring, so unless you lose your whole set of keys you won’t lose it too. It also won’t look out of place on your keychain, since it’s not too large and looks like a key.

The PetiteKey is not the first LaCie USB flash drive that looks like a key, but this one is much smaller. It’s waterproof, scratch-resistant and completely covered in metal. It also has encryption software, but what I like best is that it blends well with the other keys on most keychains.

It’s available right now at LaCie’s website. Prices range from $14.99(USD) for the 8GB model to $39.99 for the 32GB model.

LaCie PetiteKey Key Style USB Flash Drives

LaCie-PetiteKey-Key-Style-USB-Flash-Drive

LaCie has dropped a new line of key style USB flash drives, the PetiteKey. Coming in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB sizes, these scratch-proof and waterproof flash drives feature a metal housing, a USB 2.0 connection interface and a built-in 256-bit AES hardware encryption. The 8GB, 16GB and 32GB models are priced at $14.99, $22.99 and $39.99, respectively. [LaCie]

LaCie unveils stealthy PetiteKey USB flash drive

LaCie has unveiled its newest key-shaped flash drive, the PetiteKey. This USB drive is 30-percent smaller than its predecessor, the iamaKey, making it easier to carry on a key ring. In addition to being stealthy, the drive also offers Private-Public encryption to keep files safe and one year of Wuala Secure Cloud Storage.

The PetiteKey offers several features, including being waterproof up to 100-meters, something that’s perhaps most convenient for those times your keys find their way into the washing machine. The connector is scratch-resistant, a necessary feature due to both the drive’s cap-free end and its perilous life on a key ring. The PetiteKey offers USB 2.0 connectivity.

Bundled with the PetiteKey are two extra services: Private-Public, and Wuala Secure Cloud Storage. Private-Public is encryption software allowing users to protect their files with AES 256-bit security and a password. Wuala Secure Cloud Storage is included for one-year, and provides an online account for users to store their data.

The drive is available in 8GB, 16GB, and 32GB capacities, and is priced at $14.99, $22.99, and $39.99. You can pick up the USB drive from LaCie’s online store, or via one of the company’s partners. LaCie is a manufacturer of storage devices, and operates in the Americas, Europe, and Asia.

Lacie’s New USB Drives Should Be The Key to Your Computer

Lacie’s been making storage solutions that look like keys for a while, but they’ve come out with their new models and they are more durable, smaller, and oh-so-desirable. The Lacie PetiteKey is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and covered in metal. It comes in three sizes, starting with an 8GB model for $15 going up to a 32GB model for $40. It comes with encryption software, but it probably works with other solutions, and I can’t think of a more fitting way to protect sensitive data than keeping it on your keychain with the way you protect your home.

They’re on sale now at Lacie’s website.

LaCie PetiteKey USB flash drive: slim and discreet, for files of the private variety

LaCie PetiteKey USB flash drive slim and discrete, for files of the private variety

What if the key to your home continued to get smaller and smaller? Would that be something you’d cheer or loathe? Thankfully, that’s not the question we’re posing today — instead, we’re wondering if you’d enjoy a key-like flash drive that’s smaller than its predecessor. LaCie’s new PetiteKey sort of gives itself away right in the title, being even tinier than the iamaKey that shipped in March of 2009. In fact, it’s some 30 percent smaller, and ships with a Wuala Secure Cloud Storage account as well. The unit itself is waterproof up to 100 meters, and LaCie claims that your sultry love letters will be protected “even if dropped in a mud puddle or put through the washing machine.” Sadly, the unit only transfers at USB 2.0 speeds, but can be had soon in 8/16/32GB capacities starting at $14.99. Mildly related video can be found after the break.

The LaCie P’9223 Slim SSD supports the USB 3.0 interface that lets you transfer files faster than ever before. LaCie Porsche Design P’9223 Slim SSD for Macs

Porsche Design carries the German supercar name, which is why when it comes to the kind of computer peripherals that it churns out, we more or less look forward to something stunning and of high performance caliber. Well, we are pleased to say that LaCie’s most recent release of the Porsche Design hard drive will target Mac owners, where it delivers the kind of performance one would expect from a supercar brand name, although this is on the hard drive front. As for the P’9223 Slim SSD, it is said to have shed 33% of its original thickness compared to its predecessor, but despite that, it does not compromise in terms of storage space with the option of a 120GB SSD, making sure your USB 3.0 port is well utilized in the process. Should everything run fine and dandy, then you can say just about all Macs released this year will be able to play nice with these offerings from LaCie.

It will cost you $150 for the flash-based edition of the P’9223, but if you do not mind plodding along at the pace of a hard drive, then all you need to do is hand over a Benjamin and you’re good to go.
