Make the Ultimate Knight Light

Do you have a round table in your court, but no lighting in your castle that goes with it? Make yourself a cool knight lamp! It’s also perfect for illuminating your next D&D game night.

Best of all, you can make it by using some fairly inexpensive parts. Just follow Mr. Hyde’s directions over on Instructables. You’ll need a knight’s helm of course, a few wires and metal tubing. Oh, and a crankshaft from a car, but that’s optional. I suppose if you use a cam shaft, your knight lamp will be from Cam-elot. Get it? Ha ha. That was terrible.

With this lamp, your lighting will be much more medieval. Turn it on and pass the mead and a giant turkey leg. Tonight we feast by the helm of the man you have bested in DIY combat.

LED Jellyfish Mood Lamp lights up your room in a fun way

jellyfish-mood-lampHaving a lamp is more or less an essential thing to own in any home, considering how sometimes harsh lighting could prove to be too hard on the eyes, and neither does it invoke that kind of romantic mood. A mood lamp would definitely come in handy to send those lovey dovey feelings down your spine, and with the $29.99 LED Jellyfish Mood Lamp, you will definitely have another winner in your proverbial book as it is not only highly affordable, but it will also be relaxing to watch at. Mesmerizing, even.

The LED Jellyfish Mood Lamp will feature dancing desktop jellies, where they float around and more or less hypnotize you, as you let the care and concerns of the world slip by you. The LED colors can be changed accordingly to suit your mood at that point in time. Half a dozen LEDs will help get the light show going on, and should you ever run into any issues of your jellies swimming properly, it is time to introduce just a few drops of liquid dish soap to the water, and you’re good to go – the entire thing would then run as a well oiled machine.

Real Life Leg Lamp: It’s a Major Award

Perhaps taking inspiration from A Christmas Story, Redditor cit046286 has decorated her prosthetic leg by adding lights to it. She has used a prosthetic leg since her battle with bone cancer two years ago. She was diagnosed while she was deployed to Afghanistan.

Being the clever and creative person that she is, she stuffed lights inside the leg for a Christmas party. Now she has a super cool leg lamp. It’s a festive look, and it even comes in handy for more than just showing off – like when the power went out for 15 minutes during the party. Also it doesn’t look FRA-GEE-LAY.

I guess her leg can also double as a Festivus pole if she celebrates Festivus.

These Water Balloons are for Lighting, Not for Fighting

Water balloon fights are fun and they are a mandatory part of childhood. Adults love to get in on the action too whenever we get the chance. So if you are looking for some fun lighting that has a bit of nostalgia and a playful attitude, check out these water balloon pendant lights.

These unique and playful lights are inspired by water balloons inflating under a faucet. They were designed by Torafu Architects and they were displayed at the IFFT interior design show in Tokyo last month.

They’re not light bulbs in the usual sense, though they do have the shape. Each of these glass bulbs is backlit by an LED which highlights the bubbles and curves in the glass. They look like they emit a nice soft glow.

Too bad you can’t pluck them from their leads and throw them at each other for a light/fight show.

Solar Light Clock Concept Tells the Time by Showing Daylight: Protoclock

Before the invention of timepieces, our ancestors aligned their schedules with the rising and setting of the Sun. Mammoth hunting when the Sun goes up, then chill at Hairy Guy 34′s cave when the Sun goes down. Designer Jon Liow’s concept clock will let you partake in this ancient tradition of guesstimating with the Solar Light.

The Solar Light isn’t solar-powered. It gets its name from its function, which is to mimic the amount of sunlight in a particular timezone. By default, if it’s noon in your chosen timezone, the Solar Light will shine brightly, while its LEDs will probably be completely off at midnight. You’ll be able to select a timezone from a mobile app. You can also invert the light’s function (it’ll be brighter at night, darker during the day) and even turn it to a normal lamp from the app.

I think I’d love to have a Solar Light. It’s a nice way to imagine what your loved ones are doing if they’re abroad. It would be more useful though if it could also show you what the weather is like in that area.

FrankensteinLabs Einstein’s Brain Desk Lamp adds some gore to your desk

frankensteinlabs-einstein-brain-lampNow here is an interesting desk lamp that you might want to consider picking up to spruce up your workplace. If you happen to be a boss, then it would make you seem more intimidating, especially when your underlings start to whisper among one another that you literally eat people for breakfast. What kind of proof do they have against such an insinuation? Well, there is the $99.99 FrankensteinLabs Einstein’s Brain Desk Lamp that should put to bed all speculation that such a statement isn’t true.

The FrankensteinLabs Einstein’s Brain Desk Lamp works as it is called – it features a floating brain-in-a-jar desk lamp, making it the ideal gift for that science crazy person in your life. Each of these lamps will come across as a handmade device, which means you would literally be unable to find two of the same lamps, ever. The bulb that arrives with the lamp itself is red in color, but you will be able to switch it out to a color that you like so that it can convey a different feeling or mood to the room.

Space Invaders Alien Lamp for the video game geek

space-invaders-alien-lampThere is just something about old school games that make us want to play and indulge in them from time to time. Those were the days when simple graphics and engrossing, and yet direct, gameplay could suck hours of our time with our imagination going into overdrive. Well, if you have a penchant for all things old school, or know someone who does, perhaps forking out some dough for the £24.99 Space Invaders Alien Lamp might just be the perfect gift.

The Space Invaders Alien Lamp will obviously arrive in the form of the retro and lone looking space invader, with the ability to change its color while it functions as a night light. Even better is, this is an officially licensed device by Taito, and best of all, you will not be shooting it down anytime soon as it will remain in a stationary position without shuffling horizontally in a relentless manner. This time around, it will bring light to your surroundings, instead of the expected death.

Hexapod Lamp is More Creepy than Cute

If you are looking for a new lamp that is a bit creepy and looks like it will crawl off your desk on its own, check out this unique and awesome lamp.
steampunk lampmagnify

This unusual six-legged lamp was made by artype design out of the UK and while it doesn’t actually walk, it looks like it could and that’s good enough for us. Can you imagine this thing walking around your home and lighting whatever area you needed illuminated? That’d be cool.

Of course it would trip you with the cord and kill you, but at least you had a nice lamp for your final days on Earth.

iPhone Dock Concept Turns Your Phone Into A Bedside Lamp

iPhone Dock Concept Turns Your Phone Into A Bedside Lamp

I personally don’t have a bedside lamp as my wife is the kind of person who likes to keep as much light out of the bedroom as possible. That means my usual pajamas completely covered in Christmas lights is not welcome in our bedroom, and neither is a lamp. But, if a lamp was welcome to my bedroom, I would certainly like it to use the power of my iPhone’s flash in order to illuminate whatever it is I need light for. (more…)
