D20 Lamp Will Light up Your Dungeon

This D20 lamp looks like an old world style lamp, but with one major geeky difference. The globe on top is shaped like a D20 die. It’s perfect for those dark, dank corners of your D&D gaming room.

Stained glass artist Claudia Malmberg made this. She also makes other items that merge stained glass and gaming dice, like clocks, planter, picture frames, and even a D2o bowl for holding all your dice. You can find them all in her Etsy shop Diceydecor.

Sure, you can’t roll a critical hit with it, but it will level up your room. If this lamp is geeky enough for you, it can be yours for $318(USD). It’s pretty neat. And it takes a night light bulb so it should be a nice gentle light to game by.

DIY Classic Desk Lamp

Working at the desk is the calling for many of us, although whether this ‘calling’ is intentional or otherwise, that I shall leave it to you to decide. Needless to say, any decent work desk will need an accompanying lamp, just in case you decide to burn the proverbial midnight oil. Who uses oil lamps anymore these days in a modern air conditioned office? This is where the $39.99 DIY Classic Desk Lamp comes in handy, where it allows you to have this sense of satisfaction by building your own lamp – although you would have enlisted a little bit of outside help in making sure all the parts are ready for the assembly process.

This mini wooden desk lamp will come with its own fair share of casters for you to put together yourself, and there is no need to cut anything or hammer a nail or two here and there, hence greatly reducing the chances of experiencing an accident that would require you to rush yourself to the nearest first aid counter. The DIY Classic Desk Lamp measures around 24 inches in height, and will be accompanied by a 3 foot long extension cord. Now, to make sure you have enough back up bulbs just in case Murphy decides to strike…

Artist With a Heart Creates Little Solar Lamps with Big Personality

Sometimes, looks matter. Don’t get me wrong, because functionality should always be the main concern. But when that part’s done and over with, aesthetics also play a role in how it impacts people’s lives.

Take, for example, these solar lamps by Danish artist Olafur Elisasson. It’s pretty obvious why he decided to name it the Little Sun. But aside from its novelty factor, the lamps serve a higher purpose.

Little Sun

Elisasson actually designed them to sell to poorer countries that still use kerosene lamps. At $10(USD) a pop, they’re pretty much as affordable as solar lamps can get. They’re also a breath of fresh air from how solar lamps typically look light, and economical too. As Elisasson says that “over the course of the lamp’s lifespan, its users can save 90 percent on what they would spend on kerosene for lighting.”

I don’t know about you, but if I’m in a crappy mood, these Little Suns could probably brighten up my day.

Lego Star Wars Darth Vader Desk Lamp

If you had watched The Dark Knight Rises, I would assume at one point or another, you might have expected to hear Bane actually breathing out aloud ala Darth Vader with that face mask of his on. Well, here is a little bit of Star Wars goodness for you with the $59.99 Lego Star Wars Darth Vader Desk Lamp, allowing you to unleash the power of the Dark Side right at your desk, albeit in Lego style which is always cute as a button no matter how you look at it, of course. You will be able to have the freedom to pose Vader’s arms and legs as you please, and he can be used on or off the base.

The lightsaber that belongs to Darth Vader will have at least a dozen LEDs to light up your workspace, and for those of you who are extremely concerned as to whether this is officially sanctioned by Lucasfilm, you can breathe easy. It is an officially licensed LEGO and Lucasfilm collectible, and will run off a trio of AAA batteries. Of course, you can alternatively have it run from USB power, which is always an option if you are going to be by your desk all day long, or should I say, night?

Peel Light: Peel Back Your Wall to Light up Your Life

The Peel Light is kind of like the super-sized, real world version of the Secret Lamp, minus the latter’s dual-purpose features of being both a table lamp and a night light.

Peel Light1The Peel Wall Light also goes by the name of Corner Light, but we prefer the former because it describes the actual lamp better.

Basically, the lamp is held in place by a wall-mounted steel bracket and covered with a fabric diffuser to seal the deal. When you need to illuminate the room (or show off the world’s coolest lamp to your buds), just peel the fabric back and uncover the light.

Peel Light

The Peel Light is novel but it comes with a hefty price tag of $910 (USD). You could probably buy a whole range of other lamps with that kind of money, but if you’ve got some to burn, then why not?

Andromeda Tactical Lamp for at Home Mercenaries

Are you the hardcore military type? Are you out in the field so often doing special ops missions, that you feel more at home with military grade equipment than you do everyday objects? If so, you’ll want to check out the Andromeda Tactical Lamp.

andromeda lamp

This manly lamp comes from Sketchy Design Studio and is of course designed to look like a modern rifle. It features three Picantinny rails which are actually functional and can be used to adjust the height or attach other accessories, like a scope or a bayonet.

A pledge of $279(USD) or more gets you an Andromeda Tactical Lamp over on Kickstarter – where as of right now they have raised nearly all of their $70,000 goal with 39 days to go, so it’s very likely to be going into production.

Lampbrella not only lights up the street, but it keeps you dry, too

London is very wet at the moment – and someone even mentioned in her Facebook status that someone forgot to place an order for summer this year. Well, it is definitely one of the wetter places on earth, and it would be wise to carry an umbrella with you wherever you go, never mind that it is summer. Since you are unable to predict a downpour, it is always better to be prepared. Designer Mikhail Belyaev has other plans though, coming up with what he calls the Lampbrella. As the name suggests, you can more or less figure out that this is an umbrella that doubles up as a lamp.

Or is it a lamp that doubles up as an umbrella? I think you get the picture, no? Basically, the Lampbrella is a lamp post that has its own rain-sensing umbrella built-in, where this concept will see a standard issue street lamp which has been fitted with an umbrella canopy in addition to an integrated electric motor which will open up or close the umbrella on demand. As mentioned earlier, there are integrated sensors, where these will make sure that the umbrella will be deployed so that pedestrians can enjoy some much needed shelter whenever it starts to rain.

Apart from the rain sensor, there is also a 360 degree motion sensor located on the fiberglass street lamp which is perfect to detect anyone who uses the Lampbrella in order to escape from the rain. When no movement is detected for three minutes, the canopy will then go about closing itself. It would be cooler that the Lampbrella is powered entirely by solar energy, but I guess there is always room for improvement, right?

Mikhail claimed that he was inspired to design the Lampbrella after he saw ordinary folks get wet on streets in Russia when the heavens opened up. Mikhail mentioned, “Once, I was driving on a central Saint Petersburg street – Nevsky Prospect – and saw the street lamps illuminating people trying to hide from the rain. I thought it would be appropriate to have a canopy built into a streetlamp.”

This is still a concept, and there are no plans by any parties to send this into production. Any angel investors out there who are willing to take the risk?

Captiva Lamp Concept

Designed by Stephane Pietroiusti, the Captiva Lamp can be used as an ambient lamp or a focused light for working. You just need to adjust the flexible neck to create a focused light, or point it upwards into the shade to diffuse the light. It is a cool concept that will hopefully hit the light of production.

Why Don’t You Come Stay Under My Lampbrella, Ella, Ella?

Remember that oldies song Bus Stop by The Hollies? It basically tells the story of two strangers who meet at the bus stop, share an umbrella, and end up getting together because of their bus stop meetings. I couldn’t help but remember that song when I saw the Lampbrella.

LampbrellaNow I’m not saying this is a concept design to encourage people to meet potential partners in the streets, but it’s definitely a fun one considering the smart way it integrates a lamp with a sensor-activated umbrella.

Once rain drops begin to fall, the canopy automatically opens, providing shelter and relief from the rain to passers-by who might have left their own umbrellas at home.

Virus Eliminating Desk Lamp

There you are, hacking away at the keyboard late into the night at the desk. You start to scratch your nose, only to realize that a full blown sneeze is working its way at the end. Could this be due to the number of unseen viruses around your work area? If that is the case, then it is always better to be safe than sorry – and this is where the $299.95 Virus Eliminating Desk Lamp comes in handy. I am not quite sure whether this particular desk lamp works as advertised, but let us take a closer look at its hardware specifications below and arrive at our own conclusion.

The Virus Eliminating Desk Lamp is said to be an air-purifying desk lamp that is capable of eliminating up to 99.99% of viruses, allergens, and bacteria. An integrated fan and vents are located at the base of the lamp, where these will disseminate harmless hydrogen and oxygen ions which envelop positively charged viruses and bacteria such as influenza, staphylococcus aureus, and MRSA. Both hydrogen and oxygen ions will penetrate the pathogens’ membranes in order to destroy their DNA, rendering such microorganisms incapable of reproduction and survival. Not only that, allergens, tobacco smoke, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by some paint and furnishings are also neutralized along the way, all without the need for a filter. If you fall sick while sticking close to this lamp, it is about time you up your intake of vitamin C and perhaps, get more exercise.
