UK Porn Filter Causes Havoc With League Of Legends Patches

UK Porn Filter Causes Havoc With League Of Legends PatchesAs you might have heard, the UK will be implementing a porn filter that blocks all porn on the internet by default throughout the entire country. It sounds like it could be a good idea to prevent children from accidentally stumbling across pornographic materials, and the fact that it is an opt-out option, meaning you have to call your local ISP and request the filters be removed, it means that parents no longer have the excuse that they forgot to institute parental controls. Unfortunately it seems that the porn filter is causing havoc on video games as well, such as Riot Games’ League of Legends. It was discovered that when gamers attempted to download the patch for the game, it was denied simply because the patch URLs contained the word “SEX”.

However the word was not “SEX” per se, but rather a combination of words that somewhat ended up having alphabets next to each other that spelt it out. For example the URLs are “VarusExpirationTimer.luaobj” and “XerathMageChainsExtended.luaobj”. This is more of a nuisance than a deal breaker as you can always patch the game by having your friends send you a zip file of the patch itself, rather than trying to download it manually, but this can get pretty annoying in the future and there’s no telling if such coincidences will happen again in the future (we’re guessing it will). Of course you could always turn off the filter but assuming you’re underaged or not the principal account holder, this could prove to be a challenge.

League Of Legends’ Justin Carter’s Motion To Quash Terrorist Threat Case Denied

League Of Legends Justin Carters Motion To Quash Terrorist Threat Case DeniedSeveral months ago back in July, a League of Legends player found himself in a hot legal mess after he made a somewhat inappropriate joke about shooting up a school. While some found the comment made to be obviously sarcastic and made in jest, there were some who just weren’t going to sit by and take a chance and report the teen to the authorities. Justin Carter faced jail of up to 8 years and if you’re wondering what’s going on now, well it looks like Carter’s luck has not improved.

According to the latest reports, the motion to quash the case has since been denied, with the comment being flagged as a terrorist threat. This is definitely not good news for Carter, although the silver lining is that at the very least Carter made bail, thanks to an anonymous benefactor that donated $500,000 which was the amount required to get Carter out on bail. While this is definitely a setback, Carter’s legal representatives have stated that even if the case would not be dismissed, there are other avenues that they can explore to appeal it.

As we mentioned earlier, if it fails, Carter could face the next 8 years in prison, over a comment which made or may not have been made in jest. We have seen this happen many times in the past where a single comment, perhaps made innocently, blown out of proportion by social media. If anything this goes to show that whether we are joking or not, we definitely need to be careful of what we say on the internet.

League Of Legends Snowdown Mode Teased

League Of Legends Snowdown Mode TeasedIt was not too long ago that Riot decided to share a little teaser for what will happen to League of Legends in this coming holiday season, where among them include a comprehensive list of confirmed vintage skins which will be making their way back to the market. Apart from that, there was also a teaser for the new featured Snowdown mode, which would most probably point gamers in the direction of a certain degree of objective-based gameplay.

While certain League of Legends matches do happen to require the completion of objectives, the main one lies in destroying the enemy Nexus. In the 1v1/2v2 Snowdown mode, which so happens to be a variant of the Howling Abyss map, players are able to achieve victory simply by mopping up a certain objective. Considering how arriving at a victory is a road that has many paths, which particular one will you take? Decisions, decisions! Well, nobody said that being a dedicated gamer is an easy thing to do in the first place, what more when you need to make split second decisions on the spot, or to work out a particular game strategy before the match actually starts. At the very least, gaming will hone your decision making process.

Riot Games Looking To Develop League Of Legends App For iOS And Android

Riot Games Looking To Develop League Of Legends App For iOS And AndroidLeague of Legends players, if you’re the sort of gamer who is addicted/hooked onto their game and needs to stay updated while on the go and when you’re away from your computer, it looks like Riot Games is thinking up a solution for you. Thanks to job listings found on Riot Games’ website, it seems that the developer is currently seeking both iOS and Android app developers to help them create “cutting-edge” apps for League of Legends players.

The job description is pretty flowery and basically calls for developers to create apps that “help players engage with the world around League of Legends anytime and anywhere, even if they’re not sitting in front of a computer.” We’re not sure what sort of apps Riot Games has in mind, but we doubt it will be a mobile version of the game, so League of Legends players should probably not get their hopes up just yet. As it stands there are unofficial League of Legends apps out there for both iOS and Android, but given that this will be an official Riot Games’ endeavor, we expect it will be much more extensive.

What do you guys think? What kind of League of Legends mobile app would you like to see from Riot Games?

League Of Legends Hacked; Account Data, Credit Card Info Stolen

League Of Legends Hacked; Account Data, Credit Card Info Stolen

We never like to hear or report on a company announcing a service of theirs has been hacked, and as a result you now have to scramble to reset your password for the service and additional services you may have reused that password with. Today, we unfortunately have to report Riot Games’ extremely popular League of Legends has been compromised.

League of Legends players around the world don’t have anything to worry about as only North American account information has been compromised by hackers. According to Riot Games, usernames, email addresses, real names and “salted password hashes” were accessed during the breach. The password information that was accessed is said to be unreadable, although users with easy-to-guess passwords may be at risk.

Those weren’t the only portions of North American accounts that were accessed as hashed and salted credit card numbers from somewhere around 120,000 transactions that were made in 2011 were also accessed. Riot Games assures players the payment system that was accessed hasn’t been used since July 2011, but the company is still taking the appropriate measures to notify and safeguard affected players. If you receive an email from Riot Games, it’s best to give it a read to see just how much your personal account was affected by this security breach.

League Of Legends Player Wants “Satan” To Be Unfiltered

League Of Legends Player Wants “Satan” To Be Unfiltered We have seen some pretty happenings concerning League of Legends recently, where an American Express issued debit card was just introduced that came with its fair share of goodies, in addition to a League of Legends player who was granted a US visa which recognizes him as a professional athlete, now how about that? Well, to take things off the beaten path, another League of Legends player will hog the headlines – this time after posting a petition on Change.org, making a request to the game’s developer to “unfilter the word Satan” from the MOBA.

According to Beau Guthery, the game does not censor the word “Jesus” as well as the names of other gods, citing that Riot is “blocking Satanists’ right to freedom of religion by preventing them from using the name Satan.” Guthery continued, touting that all posts to the League of Legends support team on the open forums remain blocked whenever the word “Satan” is used. So far, the petition carries the hopes of 209 supporters as at press time, and the Church of Satan even caught on this, using Twitter and Tumblr in order to raise further awareness of the petition. What do you think would be the outcome of this particular petition?

League Of Legends Debit Cards Coming Your Way

League Of Legends Debit Cards Coming Your WayIt does seem as though League of Legends is getting more and more high profile, where we have read about how an actual League of Legends player was granted a US visa which recognized him as a professional athlete – the first of potentially many, we think. This time around, fans of League of Legends might want to check out a new line of debit cards that is all set to be unveiled by American Express this coming Wednesday, and these debit cards will boast themes from League of Legends. It is not all meant for cosmetic purposes only, as these cards are said to deliver bonus Riot Points to its holders. Just in case you are wondering what Riot Points are all about, these are not potential cash rebates, but rather, the game’s currency.

Just how will the Riot Points incentive work? Card holders will be gifted 1,000 points just for signing up, and they will get another 1,000 points after depositing the first $20 on the debit card. Following that, additional points will be rewarded with each dollar spent after the first 10 purchases are made, with an additional 10,000 point bonus being “banked in” whenever the card itself is tethered to a direct deposit account.

League Of Legends Player Granted US Visa That Recognizes Him As A Pro Athlete

League Of Legends Player Granted US Visa That Recognizes Him As A Pro Athlete

We’re pretty sure that back in the day, no one ever thought that they would be able to make a living playing video games, but fast forward to today, we see video gamers who are making several hundred thousand a year from prize money and endorsements, so it is really no surprise that eventually video gaming would come to be recognized as a professional sport, at least as far as League of Legends gamers are concerned. Now it seems that one particular League of Legends player, Danny “Shiphtur” Le, has been granted a US visa in which he will be allowed to come into the US ahead of the world championships in order to train for it.

Ultimately what this means is that this makes Le the first pro gamers to receive a US visa that recognizes him as an international athlete! Of course many gamers have been granted their visas in the past, but they are, for the most part, for one-off events. In Le’s case, he will be the first who will be able to make a salary during his stay in the US. According to Le who was asked about his situation, he was quoted as telling The Los Angeles Times, “It’s kind of so big — actually kind of mind-blowing.”
